I am thankful that you continue to do these videos, not every suit shop or tailor knows the proper way to measure for a kilt. And many a tailor will argue about it as well....
So, for the waist measurement, just to be clear, we measure around the widest part of our rear? The widest part of my rear is lower than where my hips are. I just want to make sure I do it correctly. Thanks!
Okay guys.I tie my Ghillies like a normal shoe with the usual first half knot shall we say,(I NEVER do that 10 or 20 twists thing at all) then because my right foot is wider than my left foot,I proceed to twist the laces round twice for the RH Shoe,3 twists for the LH Shoe, then take them round to the back of the ankles, low to just above the ankle bones, again 2 twists RH,3 Twists LH, back round the front slightly angle elevated up,cross them over at the front, again slightly angle elevated up and finish off with laces to the outside of each leg and tied of with a half hitch bow/knot thingy. Always use flat laces as round ones always come undone no matter how hard you try!! Never tie them off on the shin bone! Because of this the lace lengths on both shoes have to be set up differently so you get the tie off on the outside of the legs. Took me ages to figure this out and as I have played for about 3000 Weddings,3000 Funerals and piped about 12,000 local University Students to their Graduations over 30yrs,I cant afford to have my Ghillie laces coming undone at all. My way of tying them works very well, they stay there all day long pretty much, maybe one adjustment perhaps but otherwise it's all good.
At one point in time remember you talking about standard lengths based on height. I’m 6 feet and you said it was average 24 inch drop. For me that’s exactly what it is.

Omg… that towel hack tho!!
Great video! I love the visual.
This was why I went to USA Kilts in person, so they could do the measurements.
Good idea. We did all this and the kilt is about 3/4 inch too short :-(
I got that EXACT towel!!!!!!
How do you measure to find the ideal length for a sporran strap?

Nope, just above belly button is good, level all around.
The WAIST is taken at the belly button. The HIPS are taken at the widest part of your rear end. 😃
@@USAKiltsOfficial I had just got to that part and was going to clarify 👍
@@USAKiltsOfficial Thanks for the reply. This will be my first kilt and would really like to get it right. Can't wait to place my order!

Ok, so my goal is to have lost enough weight by the time I've saved up to buy one, that I'm not too embarrassed at my measurements.
Buy 4m/5 yards of doublewidth wool, job done.
Lol I wear my pants at my first rib
Boxer shorts??? We don' need no steenking boxer shorts!
