IMU-CET 163 Rank here 2019 batch. Didn't join though. He is telling truth. But it's not all about money. There is literally no family time. You miss most important and precious moments of your life.
He's exaggerating you can earn 70-80 lpa only if your become Chief Engineer that will take approx 10 years and the salary depends on the type of ship as well
I think this is the best channel for those students who want to know about different career options you guy's are really doing something like precious, keep it up guys
My father has been a marine engineer (in merchant navy). He became a chief engineer when I was born. (I am his second child).Even though he did make a lot of money, got to roam the world and everything was paid by the company you miss out literally years of time with your family. If you are married then they allow your spouse to come too but if you have a kid then someone will have to stay to take care of his/her education .So most of the time, my father had to sail alone.
I have completed my Btech in marine engineering back in 2019 and i am currently sailing on gas carriers and honestly this kid is living in some utopia because the salary he quoted after clearing the exam post Training period is no where close to the real deal. Salaries are as follows -
