I'm a trucker so FYI if you get a free card from Love's, flying J, pilot or other truck stops once you fill up with certain amount of fuel you automatically get a free shower. Plus you get credits that accumulate that you can purchase anything from there except cigarettes and beer.
And yes I've given free showers to some people even a mom who had a kid that threw up on themselves lol.
    Stay safe out there chica.
    Peace out

Reina - Have to agree with you on this. We recently purchased a small tear drop trailer and on our first stop to the nearby Camping World we were encouraged to sign up for a free Good Sam Club membership. They are connect to Love's and have good benefits, such as showers etc.

All the major truck stop chains have showers (loves, flying J, pilot, petro ). All the drivers have an abundance of free shower credits on their fuel card. If you hang out by the door to the fuel island and ask a driver for a shower they will happily get one for you. This is a common practice among drivers. All the showers have towels and soap.

Great video, Ahle! You can also purchase a black cement mixer tub at Home Depot or Lowe’s-they are made of extra thick black plastic & you find them in the building materials section of the store. I use one for showers inside my conversion van (using black out curtains for the van’s windows); I simply have a collapsible stool in the middle of the cement mixer tub & use two bottles of water I put on the dash of the van to warm up from the sun. Then, I use Dr. Bronner’s soap, since it rinses off easily & simply either take sponge bath or a navy shower (get a little wet and lather up with soap & then rinse off). My preference is the dog sprayer that fits any water bottle top and acts as a shower, but, I’ve also used my converted garden sprayer, like your setup. I can usually shower with less than a gallon of water that way. And, I can dispose of the water outside, since Dr. Bronner’s soap won’t harm the environment.

You forgot one. Once when I was working out of town and staying in my van at Walmart I really wanted/needed a shower. It was a small town and there weren't many options. It was the middle of summer and I needed a shower now. I pulled in to the local self-service car wash, opened my side doors and for $1.50 to start took a shower at the car wash. It wasn't that bad and with the free wax, it was a lifesaver. Just don't pull the trigger on the wand. Trust me on that one.

If your looking for a shower at a truck stop, like loves, TA, etc., just find a driver who has a shower ticket already and ask him/her to go to the fuel cashier and ask for an extra team shower. The team shower is free. So, no worries about not having an extra shower on card. Just show fuel cashier a shower ticket and ask for an extra team shower. I usually offer a buck or two. It's a lot cheaper than spending $12.00 for a shower.
    Be safe, and God bless!

Another good place to wash up is gas station bathrooms, the ones where you go inside to get a key so you don't have to worry about someone walking in on you. They usually have a drain in the floor and you just take a large cup or something to pour the water over yourself, your soap and shampoo and can also brush your teeth, shave, etc. Don't spend to much time in there because other people might need to use it to answer the call of nature. I've found that most are pretty clean and also I like to buy something so I'm not just freeloading. Thanks for all your great advice!

A five gallon bucket and swim suit. A bottle of Blue Dawn and half a bar of Irish Spring with a micro fiber cleaning cloth. Car repair shops often have water spigots between bays so just before sundown you put on your swim suit and fill up your bucket with water and there in front or on the side of your vehicle you soap down and rinse. If you get one of those child’s blow up swim pool, you can put it on the floor of your van, put your five gallon bucket with water and suds up and rinse. The pool will keep most of the water and then when you’re done, dump the water right where you’re parked.

When my partner & I were on streets for a year waiting for jobs & SSI income to be reprocessed, we used occasional motel room, hospitals (when admitted) , local co-ed shelters (like a Salvation Army) or local gyms a few times. Awkward, yes, as you're commonly dealing with being nude in front of others you don't know, or having strict timing limits on how long/how much water usage to shower. Harrowing experience!! But better than nothing.

when I was planning/considering how to live in a van my pman was to heat water with engine heat, or to build a 4 inch ABS rack on the roof with a short hose. The ABS, being black, would gain solar heat.

Also, at least in Upstate, NY, most of the SUNY Colleges open their sporting buildings early in the morning and you can slide in, shower and leave without anyone even noticing.

When I was teaching at Oregon State University, I discovered that there was a large and mostly unused swimming pool in the basement of one of the buildings. Because sometimes I didn't get to shower at home before class, I would go early and use the locker room and shower. Sometimes I would even get in a few laps in the pool. There was never anyone else there and the locker rooms, well the men's anyway, were huge. Other universities may have similar hidden gems.

If you went early to use the locker room and shower, couldn't you have not left early and showered in the comfort and privacy of your home? Unless you were into the public shower, locker room scene.

If I had been coming from home that's what I would have done. However, I was coming from a vigorous activity where there were no shower facilities.

yes this! college and universities if you can get access to the locker rooms. when I was in college there was a code but you could ask almost anyone for it. I even had a lock and used one of the lockers in the locker room to keep soap and towels

Major truck stops like flying j, pilot, loves, ta, and petro have very clean and nice showers. They are cleaned and stocked with towels, soap and shampoo after each person uses them. A lot of truckers have like my self have extra free showers and are to give them to people.

You are doing great and learning quick. Please be safe (I know you are) but remember if you are in a Walmart parking lot or any parking lot (using Stealth), make sure your vehicle is in view of any cameras. The reason is you will always have an eye recording in case someone does decide to cause you and your mate some unwanted problems'. Might be a good idea to get some kind of camera (if you haven't already and other than the laptop), hidden around the exterior of your ride!! Some back-up to cover you. Not implying you haven't. Just, I too have been there and I know what it's like.

People have probably already mentioned this, but I looked on the Planet Fitness website and the $10 per month is only for a home location membership. The per month rate to use ALL their many locations is over twice that, plus another $40 or so incurred after a year.

The $10 membership at Planet Fitness doesn't let you take showers at any Planet Fitness. Only the one in which you applied for your membership. To be able to use any Planet Fitness around the world, I think it's more like $40 a month.
