- This video is a vlog of a trip to Kyoto by a Japanese family living in Tokyo. Today's video is kind of special. Because I'm taking you back to my home, where I spent time as a maiko geiko. I think that not many people, no matter how many trips they have taken to Japan, have experienced this culture. I have learned many important things in my life in this town called Gion. It is a place that always reminds me of my beginnings.
I can't post info on the maiko place, but the link to the beautiful Ryokan where we stayed is below. I couldn't find their website in English, so here is a link to a blog that someone wrote about it in detail. Please check it out!

I never met a maiko geiko before
The quietest Sutan video ever. Your Kyoto apartment was so charming and peaceful, as were the people.
@@donavanjohnson409 is that maiko girl is legal prostitute in their country?
❤❤❤
Love the Japanese spirit of thoughtfulness!
Getting a glimpse inside an authentic Tea House, in Kyoto no less, is very rare. I'm glad Moe got to show us her roots in this warm slice of life vlog.
For sure your mom is a wonderful lady 😊
I’m living in Kyoto and have been here for 3 years, your video makes me feel everything here is so familiar and wonderful. It’s so nice to see Maiko’s performance.
I love one thing about Japan is they still preserve their own culture even though they are so modernized. Additionally, their culture is quite simplistic and disciplined in a way that is morally grounded.
I love Japan!
The beauty of the garden really moved me to tears.
So beautiful! I loved the dancers. So glad these traditional dancers are being preserved for the world to enjoy.❤
This is the most beautiful and serene place I've ever seen.
It'd interesting how Sutan stuck closer to Moe this time, usually it's her Papa. It's like Sutan knew she was visiting her mother's special place 🌷. Lovely video Moe, thanks for sharing.🌸💗
You are right🤣Sutan always sticks to Moto when he is there! Thanks for watching!
I love this video so much. I am so in love with the Japanese culture, I love how considerate you are with each other and so respectful. Kyoto is my favourite place to visit and I hope one day I can experience dining in a tea house.
I’ve been to Japan 4 times and will gladly keep coming back every chance I get. Thank you for your hard word showing us so many different places in Japan. I love watching Sutan grow up!
Oh this was so special! Thank you for sharing with us all ❤ very beautiful place
Oh how beautiful a culture Japan has.
I love how elegant Japanese cabs are
What a glorious adventure!! One day it is my goal to visit Japan with my youngest child. Thank you for sharing your life with us! We just adore Sutan!!
I just love this channel so much. It's so pleasant, and gives good feelings.

I don't know why, but everytime i hear the shamisen plucking, i feel like my heart is also getting pluck
Thanks for sharing with us your experience, it was beautiful, both Tea house and performance. Can't wait to see more.
Thankyou for ur videos... It so much introduce another side about japan expecially about their traditional
That was so interesting, I have been to a similar performance in Kyoto, but that was many years ago! Sutan was very cute in her Elsa dress. The vegetarian food looked really tasty! Even the food on the bullet train was delicious looking! I really enjoyed this Vlog, I hope I can stay in a similar place where all the doors open to a Japanese garden!
The private garden is beautiful ❤️
what a contented and informative videos about Japan cultural things that not everyone knows. this video makes me wanna visit Japan soon.
I've been to Gion and saw 2 maikos! Everything was beautiful in Kyoto
I wish kimono Mom success and happiness always 😍😍😍

Fantastic journey which you have shared with us. Love it ❤️❤️❤️
Wow.. didn't know the ekiben can be heated up like that!
Sutan is just gorgeous.❤
This looks straight out of anime ❤ truly heaven
I love your communication with your husband. How you shared why exactly she cried? Because it is important to talk about your meltdowns, feelings everything even if u do not understand properly. I really wish I cud hv some of that from my partner
Moe is so beautiful 😻 and Moto is so handsome 😻 no wonder Sutan is so pretty ❤❤❤
Aha! There's where the tokidoki Kyoto-ben comes from 😉 Kyoto wa daisuki desu yo!
This event for sutan really reminded me of core memories I have with my family, later nights getting back after a social gathering, it’s exciting to think of sutan now having those memories too! I think the best thing about those memories were experiencing my parents life with them.
IT IS ALWAYS AMAZING WHAT A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY YOU ARE BLESSED WITH.
WHEN I SAW THE GARDEN, AND THE ROOM WHERE YOU COULD PUSH THE WALLS ASIDE, A FEW TEARS RAN DOWN MY FACE
THAT'S HOW IMPRESSIVE IT WAS 😪😪
THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR EUROPEANS TO
WITH SUCH PICTURES, YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE TRADITION AND BEAUTY OF YOUR COUNTRY..... 😳‼️

ok now i want to be the lucky subscriber to receive the postcard 😂🥲
Kimono Mom please please pleaaase do a story time about your life as a maiko and why you left!! It would be so incredibly interesting😍
if i’m not wrong, she already posted a video last year
I am pretty sure part of the reason she left is because she got married to her first husband, who had to travel frequently for work.
@@geisalMINelf13 can you share the link to that video? I tried finding it but I couldn't
when a maiko gets married, she has to stop being a maiko
@@precious_svt418 I assumed it was because of that. So is that how they met ? When she was a Maiko ?
I love that they're talking about their kid like she's a fellow human not someone beneath.. like you can tell they respect her even though she's a child.
You never know Japan … they oppress women
Thank you so much for showing us some of the wonderful & authentic Geiko experience in Gion! If I'm not mistaken, the Geiko was in the white kimono, and the Maiko (with more decorations in her hair) was in the green kimono. I'm so grateful they allowed you to record and share with us!
Hi Motto! Yes, the Geiko in white kimono and the Maiko in green! It is my great pleasure to show you all to my precious place!❣️❣️
@Tian I can't imagine how busy busy Moe must be every day!! I'm very grateful for the Kimonoko Community that has formed around her RUclips, and sharing a sense of Omotenashi Giving hospitality/care to the guest with a pure heart, deeply from the bottom of the heart, with no other thoughts involved. もてなす(motenasu), the verb form of omotenashi, means think about others with a genuine heart and treat them with sincere kindness.
(The origin meaning is not well known even to Japanese)
When Moe heard it....
Moe said, “when I heard the meaning, I learned that we can make the world a better place if everyone tries to have 'omotenashi' heart."
Wow. Absolutely amazing
Arigato gozaimas! ❤❤❤
I love the japanese aesthetic, the way they design things from the garden to the furniture and houses no wonder so many creative people are attracted to it, you can find so much inspiration from it.
Even the way food is arranged and served..
100 - Love the Japanese aesthetic. How about those bowls that pile up into one...amazing.
O ya for sure
My two year old is always nervous when she is around a large group of people. Seeing how you calmly handle this type of situation and gives Sutan emotional support when she has a melt down is really inspiring! You are a wonderful mom :)
The whole video was pure culture, the dance was fascinating and the garden scenary was absolutely mesmerizing.
Sutan is getting more beautiful day by day. 😌
Thank you for showing us this amazing trip!! 😊
The Geiko World is so dreamlike and elegant. Thank you for sharing this beautiful and nostalgic moment with us, Moe-san. This was a rare and special treat, even Sutan was captivated. 😊🤙
Forgive me cause i take your time, i am cute robot still at Dede Hermawan body, i need born in Shinto family in japan cause i worship amaterasu, so can you write a wish on Ema at any Shinto shrine for me so i can born in Shinto family for have normal life, my name is Afif Syahputra as cute robot. Thanks for that.
We appreciate you for showing us different aspects of your culture. It gives us an even broader perspective on certain things.
not only do I appreciate a glimpse into your beautiful past, but I appreciate you candor in sharing Sutans emotional experiences. Its so lovely to see parents talking about emotions so honestly. I really love that when sutan cried, you talked through it, and later could look back and learn. She must love and trust you so much moe. Amazing vid. 💞💞💞
Your husband mr Moro is the most wonderful , generous, kind and cool man in Japan ./ may be in the world / it is very hard find husband who support you and no jealous in your success. Love your family ❤
Oh my gosh! I never knew you were once a maiko geiko, Moe! I think it's great to let Sutan experience what you did as a former maiko.
To me your culture is so special, I feel like I missed something. I spent 3 years in Japan and Okinawa and was exposed to many traditional things as places but your hotel accommodations were amazing, like a trip back in time. 😎
This is what i needed from a week filled with STRESS.
Also i really need to add to my list to try to embroider a portrait of a Maiko (or maybe Kimono Mom herself)
15:56 Bonus etiquette lessons, i love it!
Hi Moe, thank you for sharing such a beautiful video. I love Japan and this was an amazing experience to watch. My little girl always gets excited when she sees Sutan 😀 Greetings from Germany ❤
Having returned from Japan last week, this vlog makes me kind of emotional. Kyoto was beautiful, especially Gion. It felt like time had stopped and we didn't have anything to worry about. I sure hope I'll be able to visit again im april. Thank you for showing us this mesmerizing art. Greetings from Switzerland
The wholesomeness of this family and the positivity in the comments are so refreshing.
Everything in Japan seems so neat and clean, looking at all these different places. Also this was the quietest Sutan has ever been. All of the new people around were a little much for her.
Kyoto is beautiful and so tranquil…I was there just 3 weeks ago. I miss it so much! I need to look up where you stayed and pay a visit. The Japanese garden was fabulous! I could sit there all day and sip tea! And the shot of you with the foamy mask was so unexpected, it made me laugh out loud! Wonderful culture exposure for Sutan!
I love this part of Japan. Relaxing gardens, lovingly detailed architecture, peaceful people that equally contribute to tradition as well as being progressive. I hope this beautiful way will be preserved for many generations to come. 🙏
sutan's kawai face, late night talk between moe and moto, and moto enjoying the masked face of moe are best of the best
Most, you in the mask could be a Studio Ghibli creation! This entire video was a treat!!

Japonese traditional houses and gardens are sooo beautiful!
this was so beautiful to watch, im glad you’re showing us your past and giving us a chance to explore different things, same things goes for sutan who is seeing different sides of her parents and exploring different things all around too
So lovely that Sutan is experiencing so many new things 💕 great job to Moe and Motto
The postcards! Beautiful! The Maiko and your Mother...I'm so happy in my soul to learn about your culture and customs. I'm learning Japanese for 2 months and it's fascinating.(I've learned more from Sutan than class! Thank You and Moto again for bringing joy.
The dance, the play (i absolute love 'Konpira fune fune' song, and the play looks so much fun!) the ryokan and the ladylord maneirisms too... This video was so cultural deep, thank you Moe for showing it to us!
Thank you for sharing a visit to the ochaya where you were trained! It's such a rare thing to see. I was particularly impressed by the gaiko's skill in the dance you showed us.
Here I am making myself an ordinary cheese sandwich and a cup of tea, while watching you being served the most elegant looking breakfast I have ever seen in my life!
The ryokan looked amazing and their hospitality was outstanding.
Having watched and remembered the Life Story video Moe did a couple of years ago, I watched this video with new eyes.
Your culture is so refined. Thank you for sharing it with us. It’s been so wonderful to see Sutan grow in front of our eyes💕
Bonjour à vous. Wow cet hôtel est très agréable. La nature est abondante et incroyable. C'est si beau 🙌♥️♥️♥️
Greetings from Austria! Thank you for this opportunity for learning about Japanese culture. I admire the elegance, modesty, and spirituality in your traditions. This establishment has such wonderful hospitality and that performance was magical. I would like to visit such a place one day.
Your videos always inspire me to do my best and your family warms my heart every time. Thank you for all of your hard work.
It was a cultural and pleasant travel. Thank you to take us with you. I would never be able to go to such places like that, I'm realy thankful for all your great contents and efforts. ❤️From🇧🇷
I’m getting flashbacks to when my dad and I went to Gion four years ago. Longing to go back one day. 💕
This is such a privilege to be included in your experiences: past and present. Thank you for sharing your journey. Stay well and positive. Hello from London : - )
It must've been nostalgic to see your mother again after so many years, i feel like i want to cry and hug your mother if i was in your shoes for it's been long, honto ne sutteki 😭❤️
not her birth mother- the woman who trained her in her work!!!!!
@@andreanittel2240 nothing wrong with that, she still calls her her mother.
@@andreanittel2240 There’s no need to “shout” or make your point with so many exclamation points. Would you like someone telling you off in the comments? Who needs more anger in their life? Lol 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Moe, beautiful video. I love the cooking ones and adding these cultural insights is a pure treat and best way to expand your channel content.
Thank you for the video! Thank you for giving me a glimpse into the wonderful Japanese culture. Greetings from Budapest, Hungary. 😊🤗
Incredible vlog! I'm so impressed with the thought being the shojin breakfast set, and touched when Moe explained how the chef thought about the eater and the eater thought about the chef. When she started stacking the bowls within one another I was shocked, anyone have any idea what those bowls are called or where to get them?
This is really fascinating. I felt like ppl who work in culture-related career that passed down through generations is totally amazing. They’re the knight of history, working to preserve valuable cultures to next generations.
Idk about japan situation but in my country, ppl who working to keeping old cultures be called ‘old school’. It’s not something everyone appreciated and not something that you can make money with. The social perception toward them is different from someone being ‘doctor’ ‘lawyer’ or ‘engineer’.
Which country you are from?
Think it's a beautiful culture n profession 2b proud of;)Love the fact that:Moto treats her with such respect*Congrats Moe(he's definitely a keeper)*God bless yr fam always;)*
Thank you so much for this little glimpse of such a peaceful and beautiful place. I love how much you share of your family life and life in Japan. It has been somewhere I have wanted to visit but haven't been able to go.
I want to be like you
Moe-san thank you so much 😿 If I have the opportunity to go to Japan, it is my dream to do what is in this video. I realized again what a beautiful day it would be if my dream came true. I am grateful to you for reminding me of this. 💖
My first impression was... wait, is it not Kyo in Kyoto? Maiko in Kyoto? Then realised this is from Kimono Mom, that trained as a maiko.
Am I correct in assuming the woman dressed in white is a geiko, while the one in green is a maiko?
I'm so happy for Sutan that her parents give her so many possibilities to experience different things by traveling and by exposing her to japanese culture. That's amazing.
Wow what an amazing place to visit! The ceremony was so cool & seeing how much fun you all had. Sutan is the prettiest princess ever!!!
What a beautiful vlog. I enjoyed every moment of this. Everything was so interesting, elegant and beautiful. Sutan did not only look like a princess, she behaved like one as well, on her best behaviour. Well done Sutan. It’s not easy for a toddler to sit quiet. The Maiko and Geisha are so mesmerising. How good it must have been for you to see them again.
The Ryokan is so well planned out, the garden, the shoji doors, the view and the food and the hospitality of the lady. You must have had a grand day out. Thank you for sharing it with us. 🙏🏻

Cute Sutan was enjoying the trip and got real tired 🥰 Beautiful places ; great performance and lots of good foods 👍
Wow Moe the hotel looks beautiful and a peaceful sanctuary in the middle of old 🏯🗾🎎Kyoto , I hope you Sutan and Moe had fun. 🥰👧🏻🥰👩🏻🥰🧑🏻🥰
