    Greg you have a great set of skills!!!!
    I know of a place near my house that is great for kayak fishing and the entire lake is lined with cattail grass!!! I need to learn to get as many bites as you do out of the grass!!!

    Love Decker! Live 5 minutes away and fish it a few times a month. Caught 3 of my 4 biggest bass there including my PB @ 26 1/2 in and 9-12.

    Great spot on the lake! Thanks! Looks like black blue craw won the day.

      Thanks man. It was one of the few times in my life where I landed on an active school of bass feeding on shad first thing in the morning. Hard to be the blue craw bait that time of year in those conditions!

    I’ve been subscribed for a long time and I can’t believe I never went back to watch your early vids. You look a lot younger back here. I saw a photo of myself from 8 years ago and I nearly looked any different apart from now my eyes have that dead inside glaze on them

    Great video Greg. I was hoping to see some big Texas largemouth and they showed. I was feeling for ya when you lost those other 2 big hits. They would have probably landed you in first, but that looked like a blast. Great tournament.

    I've heard nothing but good things about Power Pro Braid. I currently use Vicious Braid for flipping. Thinking about going to either power pro or seaguar. Great videos man. Keep up the hard work. Tight lines bud.

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад

      Kuyler Palmer Thanks Kuyler. I've always used powerpro and have never had an issue so never felt the need to switch. I use seaguar invis x fluorocarbon and that stuff is pretty nice!

    what action is that flipping Loomis? Also, take some fine grit sand paper and work the hook after a couple fish. May help with a deeper hookset.

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад +1

      001PocoLoco THanks man! Nativewatercraft slayer propel 13, really enjoy it for the propel drive and especially the reverse, only big down fall is that it's terrible in the grass.

    • @001PocoLoco
      @001PocoLoco 9 лет назад

      Greg Blanchard I'm going to get a new kayak but don't know what to get. Im stuck in between the wilderness system ride 115 max because its more affordable or hobie angler 12 still saving cash. Have you tried any or the 2?

    As i am getting more involved in local tournament fishing i would really like to know about the types of clothing you guys wear during your typical fishing season??? Do you "Layer"??? Do you wear a Wet Suit ???

    Great video man! My brother and I fish Decker a decent bit, but rarely rip lines like you were that day. Do you ever fish the Colorado River east of Lady Bird Lake?

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад

      Andrew Newton Thanks Andrew! It was definitely my best day on Decker I've ever had. I was lucky enough to find them schooling and busting bait for the first 45 minutes of the tournament in a little 100 yard section of reeds. Never fished the colorado river, but I've heard good things and have seen some big bass pulled outta there.

    • @andrewnewton8477
      @andrewnewton8477 9 лет назад

      Yeah man, it's a great river to fish, next time your down in Austin you should check it out. I notice that you fish all over, are you located in Texas?

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад

      Andrew Newton I was in Temple and then Waco Jan-July. I actually just moved back to central NY but my hope is to make it down there again and fish that river for some giants. Hopefully I'll be able to live a little closer to Austin next time.

    Cool vid! Did you eat all that bass? Is it safe to eat fish out of Decker Lake with that huge power plant on it? I kayak fish in the lower laguna madre. I've been thinking about bass fishing since I live in Austin now.

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад

      Ross Wolpin Thanks, Ross! Nope, never kept a bass-only catch a release for me. i'd assume they're fine to eat out of there but you might want to check with some locals first. Austin definitely has a hand full of lakes within an hour that are tremendous fisheries. From Decker, Lady Bird, Lake Austin, Bastrop to name a few, you can't really beat the location.

  • @GolFish1

    My buddy and I are planning an early January fishing trip down that way. Do you know if this lake is any good in the winter? Been looking into it because of the power plant but I can’t seem to find much about it or if the plant even functions..

    Greg what kinda jig you are using cause I always go to decker lake and never catch nothing🤔🤔🤔

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад +1

      +joel jaimes Actually for this video, Joel, I'm using a black and blue rage menace with a 1/2 oz pegged weight. It absolutely killed em' that day.

  • @Ruthles12
    @Ruthles12 9 лет назад

    Hey man good video, but I noticed that when you measured your fish they were all opened mouth which gives you 1/4 to 1/2 inch more to the actual length

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад +2

      Ruthles12 Thanks man! Yep, for this tournament series the mouth is allowed to be opened so I'm definitely going to use that to my advantage. At the end of the day, you want as much length as you can, these tournaments are tight and just an inch or two can be the difference between first and fifth place.

  • @derekbushnell1309

    Hey Greg. What rod reel combination are you using to pitch in the video??

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад +2

      +Derek Bushnell Hey Derek, using the G Loomis 7'5'' Flippin and Pitchin rod and paired with shimano curado 200i 7.1:1.

  • @Big_Adv3nturer

    What line are you flipping with bud?

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад

      Kuyler Palmer Using 50# powerpro super slick braid. I've enjoyed it for the most part but the coating pretty much wears off after an hour of flipping. But, still a really strong line and rarely break one off.

    Bad ads I use saguaro fluronitsbgreat unless you use topwater, but the craw is pretty much gonna catchallthe bassoon those weeds

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  9 лет назад

      Joel maske thanks Joel! I like to switch between 20# seaguar fluoro invis x and 50# powerpro braid depending on water clarity. water was pretty stained on this day so went with the braid and those reeds were so thick I think the braid was a must to horse them out of there
