It’s because underwear covers up the iliac crest (basically that knobby part of your hip bone) which is an important landmark when learning how to draw humans. Helps you figure out the tilt of the pelvis. That and the upside down butt triangle (sacral dimples? Idk I forget the official term) which would also be covered by undies. Also learning how to draw people’s junk comes in handy when your studio lays you off without warning and now freelance r34 is the only thing paying your rent.
