thank you for this great overview. this information is not easy to find in such a concise manner.
Excellent Information! I have had hip plain since childhood and have never been told any of this. I would love a doctor that could at the very least explain results of my MRI. I learned more from the physical therapist than my doctor.
0:11: 🔑 The hip joint is a ball and socket joint that can be affected by developmental dysplasia, leading to arthritis later in life.
6:25: 🏥 Arthritis is the loss of cartilage in the joints, which can cause pain and limited mobility.
13:04: ⚕ Stress fractures of the femoral neck can cause groin pain and should be ruled out to prevent complications.
19:31: 💡 The labrum in the hip provides stability by creating a seal around the ball and helps in cases of instability.
26:04: 💡 Orthopedic surgeon discusses the advancements in hip surgery and the common problems seen in patients.
32:31: 💡 Hip fractures in elderly populations have a high mortality rate and require surgery for treatment.
42:22: ⚕ The use of ortho biologics, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), in promoting healing of hip injuries and degeneration is still in its early stages.
44:51: 🔬 The use of biologics in orthopedics, such as PRP and stem cells, is limited and mostly effective for tennis elbow and gluteus medius tears.
53:30: 💉 PRP therapy shows promise in reducing symptoms and potentially delaying knee replacement, but more research is needed.
57:34: 👥 Misinformation in therapy can lead to distrust between doctors and patients.

Thank you
Nice talk.. as a former spinning instructor performing a movement in one plane over 15 years against a resistance..I’ve developed debilitating hip pain. I’m sure hip labral tears will be prevalent in this occupation with the resistance pulling down on the hip joint. Core becomes weak and legs become extremely strong in comparison

Great information. I had FAI surgery and now I understand the procedure and cause more. Thank you. On another note, what watch is Peter wearing?
I had a stress fracture of the femural neck which wasn't recognized as one for almost half a year although I went to the orthopedist several times due to persisting pain in the groin and when putting weight / stress on my leg . During the last appointment the doctor first told me that my symptoms wouldn't fit into any medical problem and then advised me to start doing sport again (which could've ended in a completely broken bone, by the way). As I was not satisfied with this, he also presribed me an MRI examination but told me he was sure that nothing would be found. Yeah, turned out I had a stress fracture. Thinking about it makes me still angry.
I really enjoyed listening to this, and am just getting into preservative fitness and putting together a program for myself (better late than never). As a cyclist, it sounds like I should really include something for my gluteus medius. Listening to you two talk, it was very difficult for me to discern when you said aBduction or aDduction. Is there a way for us non healthcare people to hear the difference?
I also had to listen twice, but they're definitely talking about abduction, as the glute medius/minimus are both abductors of the hip. That being said, you probably will want to work on the adductors as well.
I just got PRP in my hip joint for cartilidge wear. I guess that was a waste of money. And it hurts a lot more now than before the injection.
What do you recommend for a hip lateral tear with no Arthritis but extreme pain in piriformis, lower back and down the leg. I was going to do PRP but doesn't sound like it will work?
Lots of physical therapy
