YES!!! Uncanny XMen V1; I’m a new reader (currently on issue 115) and new to comics and Chris Clairmont is an absolute GENIUS! Character and story development with plot twists at its finest. I really feel like this sets an XMEN foundation that will help me to enjoy the overall X-men experience.
Great video! I like how, 37 minutes in, I can hear Omar's voice change and I immediately knew he was going to God Loves, Man Kills. You can hear the reverence for that story just in his vocal inflections :D
Omnidog's suggestions are more valid, imho, for todays modern audience. I'm 50 and read comics as a child to college and got back into reading around 2009. Xmen was never something I read, so the Astonishing Xmen is much better for a modern reader. A few years ago I bought a run of Xmen 94-150, so I started to read the Claremont run, and while it is very good, it is definitely dated. To suggest early Claremont, to a modern reader is to let our own nostalgia cloud us. If someone asked me where to get into Batman, I would suggest Hush, Long Halloween, and maybe even Snyder's run over Dark Knight Returns. Modern readers need modern suggestions, and if they fall involve with the characters, then you can reference other volumes that enhance nuance, like an earlier run. Xmen is a mess because the movies don't match up with the books.
omar speaks about xmen like how a local preacher talks about god. He can quote issue numbers like preachers quote scripture verses. But everything ive learned about comics has been from these two guys channels plus gem mint
Yooooooooooooo omnidog!!! Good idea to hit up Omar he’s the man on that X-men !!! Guys a beast in the info!! Love you and Omar chating it up good vid my man !!! Keep it up!!
If you really want to get the full emotional impact out of the X-Men stories and want to become an Z-Man fan than you should really start with Giant Sized X-Men 1. It really gives you all the baggage these characters collect over the years to make the later stories resonate to their fullest. If you just can’t get into late seventies early eighties comics than I think Bendis’s New and Uncanny X-Men is a great starting point. You just have to be catch yourself up on what happened with AVX and Consequences and than jump in. I think it is a great modern run that really explores these characters. From there you can jump around to gelatinous points I the X-Men’s history.
Very helpful video! Always a pleasure to see you guys doing videos together. I hope you will again join the advanced solicitations on Omar's channel soon.
Yessss, this was great to watch! I'm new to comics, been starting to read the past few months and yall have been so helpful! I picked up the House/Powers of X hard cover and loved it despite not knowing all the stuff. The time jumping between the years was kind of jarring to me reading, but I liked everything. What I was wondering is there an Omnibus or something that collects the House of M stuff and the other extinction events that was mentioned a lot in the House/Powers of X? I Googled a little and found a reading order of trade paperbacks for House of M someone made, but a little hesitant to spend money on stuff that I don't know much about. Would that new X-Men Vs Apocalypse omni that recently came out cover one of those events? I'll keep an eye out for when those Uncanny X-Men omnis are reprinted. About to order the 2nd Harley Quinn omni and hardcover of Tom King's Batman after going off your suggestions and have been loving them. Great video as always!
I know I’m in the minority here but I absolutely love Bendis’s X/Men run. Especially his Uncanny X-Men. I just think it is the best X-Men story I’ve ever read. I love vol. 1 of Claremont’s X-Men and I enjoy the rest of his run and I need to reread Morrison and Whedon’s runs as they were the first X-Men books I read and now I’m more familiar with the characters and stories I think I’ll get more out of them. But yes Brian Michael Bendis wrote my favourite X-Men stories.
Hey Omnidog. I was thinking about picking up the Age of Apocalypse omnibus. I am quite familiar with X-Men but haven't read any complete story lines. I also might pick up Morrison's New X-Men
Omar's opinion might be different but I think New X-Men is the one of the best X-Men books there is. I started with it and I was fine. I loved it. Age of Apocalypse is good but not my first choice for complete story lines
I waited for HOX but I did by New X-Men bc of you. I read HOX and will eventually read New X-Men. I just don’t want to spend so much on the library of the X-Men. I might read the others mentioned by Hoopla but I still have so many other things to read outside of X.
New xmen is great minus the art at times. Wish a writer artist combo stayed for whole runs.ethan Van schiver is the worst at this i feel like he never stays on runs. Cant wait for astonishing omnibus thats a day one for me
You both are marvelous together!!! Great work , great entertainment
Thank you so much Dialeto!!

glad you're liking Harley and Batman. House of M is only covered in those books but they're an excellent read

I loved New X Men, I hope you do too!
The art was inconsistent but the story was great
Omnidog's Vault I think I’ve loved everything you have recommend before. You are batting 1000
@@dacollector4452 yesssss!!!
For Jess or Omar, is X-Force by Yost OOP? I didn't see it on IST?
Unfortunately I see that the complete collection vol 1 and hardcover vol 1 are OOP. There may be copies on ebay that are reasonable though
What a great video!!! And I don’t even like the X-Men.
HA! Great compliment, thanks!
No love for Bendis' uncanny :(
I haven't read it and Omar famously doesn't like Bendis' writing !
@@OmnidogsVault It was the first xmen run i fully read and the end is very bad but Bachalo's art is awesome and i think it's a great way to start
