From snopes: "When the ad was shown to Honda executives, they liked it and commented on how amazing computer graphics have gotten. They fell off their chairs when they found out it was for real." -- It took 606 takes and cost $6 million to make.
This clip was done with no video editting, except they had to do 2 shots and combine them because the camera equipment couldn't be brought all the way around. The wheels have weights at the top of them so that they land and go upwards. Rewatch the video and look for the weights.
as awesome as this video is, when i think of how much it cost to make it...i can't help but think of all the unfortunate children in the world...it would be great if we could eliminate poverty, hunger, war etc. as well as accomplish such feats. It's not like we're limited to doing just one. We certainly have the money to spend and this video proves we also have the brains to do both. If only all our hearts were in it. um yeah, just a thought. =)
Stolen idea. Check "Der Lauf der Dinge" by Fischli and Weiss, made in the 80s. Much more creative and no animation needed to make it work. Do you really think Honda would do this 600 times, rather than animate some parts? Theyre profiteers not artists...

Fantastic video. However the way the exhaust backbox rolls at 0:56 looks frightening. How did they make it roll like that anyway?

Inspired maybe. Hardly stolen. Very different machines; the only similarity I see off hand is the rolling tire.
Don’t care did I ask get good and touch grass
