@@LowBrassU Of course! I have Volume II, thinking of getting Vol I someday. If they used Vol II for the etudes I wouldve made my family move back, Volume II I've had for 2 years and it'd be an easier ticket to state if that was the case😂
@@RufinoMedado Blazhevich is definitely a desert island etude book for me but there are others. With my students and my own practice I work a lot with the Bordogni vocalises as well. The Kopprasch, Vasliev, Arbans and Snedecor books are also staples.
What advice would you give for any tubist looking to perfect the style of this etude? I believe I understand the Articulation and rhythm in the etude, but the style is puzzling me. Any tips?
First off, look at all of those dynamic markings... That's the first thing I would do is add your own dynamics that make it interesting. Experiment! With style I try to make the meter clear with emphasis on beat one. I think that helps keep the etude interesting.
Slow practice is so important. Everyone talks about slow practice but you have to really do it! When I'm learning a piece sometimes I will play half tempo for a month or more. Articulation is more about coordination than anything, that's why slow practice helps.
I don’t feel that words should be directly translated into a numerical BPM because context matters. But veloce is meant to be fast and with velocity. I would suggest to play this a fast as possible as long as it is accurate and musical.
Think about it as a musical decision not a technical one. I would only hold it as long as my air allows. There is no need to hold it so long that your tone suffers.
It's always the simple tuba etudes that really highlight how good your tone and technique really are
Thanks! That is the way it should be in my opinion. Even if something is considered easy, the goal should be to play it at the highest level possible.
I’m so glad I found this video before I got my etude. I have to play this for GMEA concert band audition. This is gonna help
I do too

@@RufinoMedado There are great etudes in both volumes. Some of my favorites are in Vol ii but I think there are more that I like in the first volume.
@@LowBrassU Agree, 48 and 49 are my favorites, maybe of all time. I've yet to discover more books or etudes, so who knows. Only time will tell

Great to hear!
This is the etude that I played for Arnold Jacobs for my first lesson with him back in 1997
That's what I have to play for wind ensemble auditions in a couple months and I'm honestly really excited 😂 great video.
One of my favorite etudes im playing this for a contest in 7th grade
Now I know how it should sound. Many thanks.
This is my cb gmea euphonium technical etude this years
Wow I can't believe this is the trombone etude for this year
Blazhevich is everywhere!
Thanks for helpful videos man it helped me make top region band.
I also play a Neptune. You make it sound great on R&J.
It’s an underrated horn!
I have 9 days to get this done for all state band 😢
This is part of my college audition here in alabama lol!
I have two weeks to get this down for a performance....lord
This year is looking pretty tough
It's all about that slow practice!
Last year and the year before was worse imo 😂

Blaz etudes are puzzles, have fun with them and follow the direction of the music!

@@LowBrassU thank you so much
I can hit the high notes on this piece but need a bit more practice, got any tips or excercises I can use to improve my range?
Scales, arpeggios and lip slurs!
how do you play the low B flat arpeggios im having so much trouble on them
Slow practice will help. Often arpeggios are more difficult to hear than scale like passages. Make sure you can accurately sing the pitches as well.
what does veloce translate into tempo wise?

what is the song in the litro of your video?
Hallo ghjv
How long should you hold the c before tempo one?
Think about it as a musical decision not a technical one. I would only hold it as long as my air allows. There is no need to hold it so long that your tone suffers.
