- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2013 Toyota Avalon V6 has been redesigned with a much more youthful buyer in mind. Gone is the old-fashioned and somewhat stogy Avalon replaced by a much sleeker and dare we say sportier model that hopes to sell better to a larger demographic of buyers. We recently had the chance to test, drive and review the all new Avalon, and of course to see how fast it will go from 0-60 MPH in San Antonio, Texas. So is the Avalon ready to move out of the country club and into the mainstream? Check out this first drive review to find out.
I bought it yesterday! I'm 33 years and I like it a lot! I like it's power to use in occasions economy in fuel comfort technology interior design and be under the radar with the exterior design. it's a great buy.
I am now I am shopping for one
Nathan should start his own show. It seem like Roman is holding him back.
I'm 29 now and still love this avalon introduced 8 years ago and the 05-12 year... Super reliable v6 3.5 carried on
I love how these big company's go out if there way to fly these guys out and they still keep it genuine with there opinions. If they don't like something, we'll know about it! Great review.
Congrats on the new car. We hope you have many years of happy motoring ahead.
I just got a 2015 Limited and I LOVE this car.
The only feature it’s missing is adaptive cruise control and whatever comes along with that particular package.
I am 22 years old and I got a 2000 Toyota Avalon but ever since I had it I am driving more like an older person according to my friends. It so smooth and the more I drive slower the smoother it gets
Then 70,000 miles later, you will wish you had the Avalon.
Are you sure you are not confusing fuel injection with direct injection?
Really Great, Funny and Informative Review. Keep em coming.
I really like these videos. In comparison to MT, C&D, Autocar, these are quite a lot more relevant and realistic.
At first I wasn't crazy about these. But then I saw two in person on the road and they look good.
Roman deserves a dazing slap for bad-mouthing one of the best brands in the market.
I get the feeling he's still in love with the older versions of the Avalon xD
Celes Classo, I can understand that, but these newer ones are better.
Love my Avalon. And yes its FAST.
I also use Rislone Engine Treatment which works super good! I get a 2-3 mpg boost from using it. I get a noticeable performance boost. When I put performance camshafts in the 5.7L V8 my engine was super clean and barely was worn down (that was at 120K miles)
Gotta love how Toyota defines a "younger buyer" as 40-60.
I LOVE the new Avalon, I love everything about it! Well, I do wish Toyota put the 2GR-FSE 305 hp direct injection v6 in rather then the regular 2GR-FE 3.5.
Thank you Nathan for your explanation . I understand that GDI motors are the most modern and don't understand why car companies like Toyota ( a good one , by the way) , stil manufactures cars in 2012 for 2013 using engines less performant . Probably due to reducing costs. So the engine in the Avalon uses a fuel injection system.
I'm 25 and I don't give a shit. It's sleeper, comfortable and reliable. None of your friends would complain about this car. Not every car needs tight as suspension that a pebble can be felt.
And plus if an older generation drives this then it's the best thing a younger person can ask for. If means that the car is hardly pushed to it's limit compared to a a Civic.
guys do me a favor , make a video to show some tips to drive on snow , like most of people , we dont have snow all winter , but these last five years we got some snow storms , you go to work , when you get out you find 5 inches of snow , the afternoon its rainy , the morning snow ,
maybe it would be cool to show us some tips to drive in these cases with FWD or RWD (both would be just perfect)
thanks keep the good job !
Roman is very big tall. There's plenty of space in the back. Give it a try yourself at the dealer.
Confusing... not anymore :) I did some searching on wikipedia and and now i know that are 4 types of fuel injection and direct injection is the best . I learn something today :) By the way , Roman and Nathan , you are a great team and i like your videos .
About time the car has changed from GRANDPA and GRANDMA (they were complaining too) looks! Hope they decide to chrome the front like FORD FUSION! NICE.
The Avalon is a top luxury car while Ford Fusion is just a regular sedan; therefore, you can't compare them the way this biased Roman of a guy is doing in this video. I agree that the new Fusion is great, but it's still a regular sedan with cheap interior.
am i the only one who thinks the headlamps and baack headlights looks strickingly similar to Hyundai Genesis concept??? this is dream come true!
You guys are hilarious though... Love to watch you reviews!!
I baught it and i am 24 years old. i love it
I'm young too, and I know for sure it's not a bad car, but it only seems that fast to you because you've probably never driven anything that's legitimately quick. Great car, not exceptionally fast but more then adequate.
My Cadillac has given me years of great comfort and reliability! I own a 2005 Cadillac CTS V which has almost 175K on it! It was in the shop for new rotors, but that was it. I plan on getting new suspension at 215K. I regularly maintain my cars with Kendall synthetic oil, I get them professionally detailed every 4 months (I detail them myself in between), I flush the coolant/transmission every 15K miles, change the air filter every 75K, etc
I love watching you guys, you guys are funny.. Thanks for making such a interesting video.
Just so I can get perspective on how big the cars you test are, I need to know, how tall are you and roman? Larry Cable Guy is allegedly 5'10
Subbed! Great review, guys!
I'm 35 and purchased this car. Trade in 11K and paid 16K. Slightly used 15K miles on it... Had a Corolla S and it's a nice change..
I love how you called the old one a "rolling bingo hall"..... I LOL'd! Great review guys.
While I can agree in the past, Korean companies were known to flat out copy some Japanese and German design, I can't say that is true anymore. Chris Chapman, previous head designer at BMW is now with Hyundai while Peter Schreyer (previous head designer for Audi) is with Kia (which are sister companies). This Toyota Avalon moves towards a new design language, not previously seen and makes me question where it came from. I can't help but agree with Nathan that it does look like the Azera.
you know if they'd just tone down that lower grill a little bit it would look great, but I have to say it still looks good.
You know what, I'm 25 year old male as well and I am looking into this new Avalon Limited. I wanted to buy the new ES 350 also fully loaded but I think that the Avalon is a lot nicer than the Lexus. Personally, I don't care if it's car that boosts my appearance - I prefer a car that's comfortable, luxurious and won't make a hole in my pocket. If I wanted to I would get the GS 350 F-Sport, which I test drove and is pure awesome, but thinking of making $600-700 monthly car payments is a turn off.
You're wrong. Dead wrong. The IS350, GS350 use the direct injection version which produces a lot more power but is also quite a bit louder. Neither the Camry nor the Avalon are meant to be sports sedans. They are family haulers. This engine is fine, fuel efficient, and is silky smooth, which you'd know if you ever drove it before.
I have never imagined a Toyota as a real dream car before! :o
It is definitely a ROCKET!!! Even on ECO MODE :))
Hi, I'm a 30 year old male who is looking to by something that fits my age but is sporty, refined, classy, gets great MPG and will boost my appearance. Do you think that the new Toyota Avalon Limited or LImited hybird will do the trick or not.
Really, when did I say that? You may want to watch the video again. I believe I said it competes with a Chrysler 300.
that looked like a serious kick in the rear seat upon acceleration. was it exaggerated ?
The new Avalon is a nice looking car. If you have ever been in an Avalon you would know it is a nice place to be. They are comfortable and quiet. It is nice that they are making it more sporty but they Avalon was never intended to be a sports car so why would anyone be disappointed that it is not? Different brands have different personas and this fits Toyota's persona. Why complain about diversity of choice? If you want a BMW, go buy one.
I'm with you, in that they have the capability. I think Toyota is far superior in quality and reliability over the years. But.. regardless of said capability, the big 3 have 300+ V6's, at least 2 of which can push 30-ish mpg on the hwy. It's not about what you will have in the future, when you are talking about current product lineups. That said, I think you present very reasonable, logical, and reliable info.
Love the reviews guys, but Nathan.... that hat man.
it has a nice interior, but i don't like the steering wheel, it's less regally?
Tried out the Avalon and found, like the reviewers mentioned, that the back seat was a tight fit for adults. Friends have previous generations of the Avalon and the back seat room was near limo quality.
Also found the slope of the roofline caused both my wife and I to bump our heads when entering the back seat, Exiting caused us to have to move forward on the seat before trying to exit, to avoid another bump on the other side of the head.
Bought a Hyundai Azera instead and love it.
It rides smooth. It's a different kind of smooth though
@rosbtim has a siamese-type intake port and utilizes a regular combustion setup. Direct-injection, which is a more direct - hence the name - is pressure-based and fed directly to the cylinders. It's a good engine, but it's not very modern.
This video was 7.4. The way in which the test is performed is largely irrelevant, provided they same parameters are used for all automobiles, to ensure fair and equitable numbers comparatively. Autoweek 6.9, C/D 6.6, and MT 6.2. So it varies. For the fully loaded model (39K), you can buy a low end SHO (since we are talking Taurus).
Bought a 2015 Touring. I currently have a 2020 Lexus ES 350 as a loaner car. There is very little difference. The Lexus is quieter but I can feel every little thing on the road. It is just too stiff. I would drive both cars before buying either one.
is avalon better than a bmw 3 series or 5 series....?
When are you guys going to review the Cadillac ATS?
But rather than argue about who got what from where, I have to admit that the Korean automakers are playing on an equivalent level as these Japanese companies, which is great for us consumers.
love your segments / please get rid of the opening theme, I'm always fast-forwarding through that thing since it's in every video.
My bad Roman you did say the Chrysler.. But, in my defense the only car that competes with the Charger is the 300 lol
my cousin is 22 and drives a 2008 Avalon, we all ride him for driving an old mans car. Did it make you feel older driving a Avalon or has it really improved that much?
This car is great looking I don't know why people don't like it
You mentioned the cruze which has a turbo engine. Being a mechanic you should know that.
The tall dude was overly critical of this car in the beginning. Looks a heck of a lot better
and yes it's not a loaded $60K Audi etc... sheesh.
Sir , you said that the engine is not direct injected , than how is it ? Carburetor ? And if so that means is not that modern ?
I was thinking that the back looked like the Azera, too! It's not a bad thing, though.
I bought a 2001 Avalon and I love it! im not a fan of the new ones I love the old ones!
it looks like the ford fusion for sure the grill, the back and the side profile
It reminds me of the Azera. Except the azera has a more elegant design that doesn't stop halfway. The azera is nice all around actually.
However, for now, the current 268hp 3.5l V6 still provides enough power and fuel economy to compete with their competitors, even though the engine is now 9 years old.
I think the Azera is better looking; however, the Toyota feels more substantial. Either way, you get a pretty good car. Thanks for watching!
They hired former BMW designer Christopher Chapman, and Kia hired former audi designer Peter Schreyer
You've probably never been skiing or sledding or lived someplace where it snows and you don't have a garage. Otherwise you would know better.
hmmm... I've got a 1997 Toyota Corolla wagon, 16 years old now and the only thing i've had to do is change tires. Think i'm doing pretty good.
How does it compare with the Honda Accord Touring and the Hyundai Geneis
All cars are reliable, even Volkswagen, if you take good care of them and do the regular maintenance. However, OEM parts may be more expensive than other brands, especially European makes.
Toyota has a 300+hp version of their 3.5L V6, called the 2GR-FSE. It is available in some Lexus models. Toyota is waiting to introduce that engine into the Toyota line once they have a new replacement to put into the Lexus line. (They are also trying to fix the problem of carbon build up that is present in most DI engines, including ones from the American brands, and is why Toyota is working with Subara to improve their DI technology).
First. and let me say the new Avalon is look good inside and out !
the escape is actually a kuga, and unlike toyota, the ecoboost is brand new. Toyota still doesn't use Direct injection or turbos... Infact since the supra toyota has been going backwards
Toyota went the smart route after the problems with the 2GR-FSE in the IS350 and decided to hold off on putting the 2GR-FSE into the new Camry and Avalon until they fix the problems associated with DI. I can't wait until they do. My step-dad has a 2011 Explorer Limited V6 and I borrow it when taking my family to pick peaches and the 3.7L V6 is peppy even inside such a heavy vehicle. (I just wish the transmission did not shift so early, I have to use sport mode to keep it in the power band)
I think you'll find that Toyota have had more recalls than most other brands.
I was thinking of buying the New ES 350 but seeing this new Avalon I am really not sure which one to go with...
Toyota rules the world.
doesn't have to be because of design issue i will assure you that most the time it's because of affordability .. the old folks got the mony that the young once still busting their ass to achive it i mean to make a monthly payment for this car is a killing but my self i'm in love with that car even that i know i don't think i will ever afford to buy one.
Bases on your Azera review, I prefer the Hyundai over this Avalon. Better styling and better value. Thanks guys.
Toyota has had a V6 making 300+hp that can achieve 30mpg+ for a few years now, they just have not used it in the NA Toyota market. As I mentioned earlier, the V6s making 300+hp are using DI which has inherent problems that Toyota is wanting to remedy before they put one in a high volume car like the Camry or Avalon. The FRS/BRZ is a step in that direction, which uses new DI technology that will hopefully fix the negatives associated with DI (Carbon buildup being the biggest problem).
with a CVT i don't think so. But the styling and interior is pretty nice.
Yep, especilly Roman. This is a very good car, arguably the best.
Hyundai did a good job with styling everyone is taking there lead
That was a good car. I am talking about about the new Charger.. anything in affiliation with Chrysler is destined to fall apart after 3 years nowadays.
1, We aren't talking about Camry. 2. You are comparing a V-6 to a T4, when Ford has direct competitor cars with V-6s for the vehicle you are talking about.
I prefer the Camry SE V6. For a lot less money, you get a faster, better handling, almost as luxurious car. Still, this is a nice 7-series BMW competitor.
the chrome on the arm rests on the door seems a little excessive to me..
also there is no way you can due damage to an engine to where is need to be replaced in 3,000 miles.
no
Any cars with turbo engines will be less reliable due to how high strung the engine is but I get what your saying.
"This car has balls" and vitamins, but mainly balls!
-Kicking and Screaming lol
I don't know where the whole "American cars are unreliable" stereotype came from. I have had no trouble at all with my 98 suburban which just turned over 200,000 miles. Had it when since it was new. I also have an 00 malibu with 156,000 miles. I don't hate foreign cars. I just hate it when people say "all american cars are unreliable"
I hate to say this about Toyota but that fron't grille looks like it was taken right off the new Ford lineup. The shape of the rear tailights remind me of the Forte sedan or Elantra GT!
It's so sad how many bad comments I see about this car, even though it's 80% made in the U.S. This car is giving you sorry slobs JOBS. When was the last time you heard about an American car that was made in AMERICA? So, I'm pretty sure most of you who are bad mouthing this car so much might want to think before hating on your own countries design.
NO
IT WAS OH WHAT A FEELING!
HOLY.SHIT. I LOVE THIS CAR. Toyota anyday, everyday. Best looking sedan that's not a luxury car. I don't give a f about impalas and Chrysler 300s. This car nails them in looks, reliablity, and holds its value. Btw what is so important about Direct Injection? What's the significance if Toyota did that? Mpg gain or something?
FINNALLY!!! A NOT-BORING TOYOTA!!!!!
I want this car. The hybrid version.
the same time 0 to 60 that Chevy Impala with 300 hp, nice.
