🎥 About this video - I am in San Antonio Texas and, when in Rome, I thought we’d try Texas famous Whataburger fast food chain. So many people have messaged me over the years to try Whataburger so I thought now would be the time.

I moved to Texas in 2000 and my first trip to a fast-food place was Whataburger .Fell in love instantly ❤️
Funny enough I think my first-ever Whataburger was in Pensacola, FL long ago.
As a Scot who lives in N. TX, I'd personally take Whataburger over In and Out. Especially with their spicy ketchup. The toasted bread is called Texas Toast, but you can get it all over the country. Also, you canny really say anything too bad about radioactive Red Fanta, when you came from the land of Irn Bru.
Right!! (and it's red, not hot pink)
Have you tried Dr Pepper? It’s better 😊
@@tracyover50naturally I don't really drink soda. But when I do, I drink Dr Pepper.
@@tracyover50naturally believe it or not but they have Dr Pepper in the UK.
We have a Scottish lass in Texas?! My heart is full 🤍☺️
4:30 In America, what Teka had is called a "Patty Melt." It's a hamburger on toasted bread with cheese, and cooked onions.
Now if you had gotten a Whataburger (a #1) you would have gotten all the veg like in n out. The mustard on the #1 is where it's at!
You better believe it #teamwhataburger
They discontinued my absolute favorite Whataburger burger which was the Swiss Mushroom Burger. Even Mikey Chen from Strictly Dumpling really loved that one in his video. They also discontinued my favorite Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich with Sausage, Egg & Cheese. I'm a bit angry with them for that double loss right now.
I also enjoyed that burger. And the buffalo ranch chicken sandwich was good too.
They're still there. They just don't promote it on the menu.
They'll bring back the mushroom Swiss every year.
I feel ya, Kim. Another favorite of mine.
Facts bro they need to bring back both asap
You should try the classic Whataburger! It has lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, mustard, beef patty. It's good I think!! And has been around since 1950s!
I live in San Antonio! Glad you’re here, welcome! Whataburger is good, for fast food.
That my friend is the beauty of America. You don't have to choose. You can have both. 'Merica 🇺🇲 as the locals say. I had In n Out in LA and I loved it. I live in rural south Utah. 3hrs north of me is an In n Out and it was good, but not as magical. I just like burgers. I'm grateful for the chance to get one . 3hrs is a long drive for a burger🤣🤠
Man I just finished eating a big meal but watching this man eat just brought my hunger back
In New Mexico you can order a green chile cheeseburger at Whataburger 😋
Hey hi! I’m in New Mexico too!😄
You can get it in El Paso too, though that's not saying much cuz we're right next door.
We get them as a seasonal menu item because hatch chilis are only available for a few weeks I believe.
@@dreamweaver1603here we roast, peel , bag and freeze so we have year round. 😋
I can't wait to see what you and Teka thought about your side trip to Bandera for the PCRA Rodeo and the Hill Country! 🇺🇲🏴🇺🇲
Also, if you get the regular Whataburger, Shauan, you get the lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and can add bacon, cheese, and avacado for a little extra. Just saying.
Can swap the bun for Texas Toast for no extra charge.
Yes, I don't know why he doesn't order a "complete" burger with all of the fixings. I need lettuce. tomatoes, onion and pickles on my burger 🍔 or it's just not a burger. 🤣. Also he needs to eat the burger and fries immediately and not mess around with trying the drink or shake first. 🤣 There's nothing worse than cold fries and a room temperature burger.
It does my heart good to see you walking on the Riverwalk, but then, I think about the amazing food and sort of wish I was there, right now!
The classic Whataburger has fresh veg unlike the one you had. In SA you could have had Fuddruckers which is amazing.
OMG....Fudruckers!! I love that place!!
Isn't that a restaurant? Or is it fast food? Whataburger is a fast food place so it's comparable to in and out or burger King but it's much better then all the fast food places but restaurant burgers are on another level forsure
@@dal8963 just saying that if you are in San Antonio, it is a better burger...or Sam's Burger Joint is great too. He went to Houston so could have had Whataburger there.
@@jstringfellow1961 Not any more. Fuddruckers was part of Luby's , and Luby's went bankrupt.
Yes. For a guy like Sean, a double patty cheeseburger would be perfect.
You need to note the size of drinks at WhataBurger. A medium is like an extra large at other places. A large at Whataburger needs to come with a dolly to carry it.
PS I'm a Texan and I like both In-and-Out and WhataBurger. You have to say In-and-Out fries are very plain without at least salt added so you may need to add cheese or animal style. Most out state RUclipsrs love the WhataBurger Spicy Ketchup, so you should try that next time.
Okay, here's a funny thing.
Californian born and bred here.
Currently in Edinburgh, where my wife and I checked out the Texas-style barbecue from The Smiddy this weekend.
Did you enjoy it?
Did you like it?
Indeed, we did enjoy it.
As a Californian, with good friends from many parts of the country, and no "dog in the fight," as they say, I am familiar with and enjoy (each on its own terms) Texas style, Carolina style, Kansas City style, and West Oakland style barbecue.
Each approach brings unique attributes to the table, but there are some commonalities as well, such as an appreciation of the value of slow cooking to truly tenderize and bring out the complex flavours of meats.
It's perhaps a reach based on a single visit, but I had the distinct impression the initial approach at The Smiddy has been to, as closely as possible, work a modified Texas approach (I say "modified" because hard core Texans of my acquaintance would never allow pork anywhere near their pits, more's the pity).
I get the sense that now that he has established himself, Cameron Bell is moving toward creating a unique Scottish identity for his dishes, continuing to honor those basic principles common to all American variations on The Cue, while moving to take advantage of the availability of pasture raised beef, pork, and (yes even) lamb of a quality level difficult to find in the States to begin to develop his own "home grown" signature recipes.
I have a hunch locals are in for an enjoyable ride over the next few years as The Smiddy's menu evolves.
I have been curious about that place. Thanks for the review
@@beachdog67 Er? As far as I know, almost ALL the centex BBQ spots (regarded as the "best in Texas," and by some, the world) have AT LEAST pork ribs. If not pulled pork.
It comes from the german/czech settlers here. They would smoke meat that they couldn't sell. They got such a demand, many of the markets specialized in it. That is where you get the Southside Market/Blacks/Smitty's/kreutz(pronounced cr-aights) bbq. Southside was a business of its own. The others are all from family feuds. In fact there is blacks/terry blacks as well. Another family feud.
All of those places serve pork. Just sayin. 🤣
Hello! So glad to see you walking on the Riverwalk and eating Whataburger! 😄I have lived 3 different times in San Antonio and currently in New Mexico. Two of my daughters were born in San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston. God bless you both 💖🌻
Shaun, I know you're back in Scotland now, but you really need to try Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Pricey but the best burger and fries ever imo.
Ah, we already have them in Scotland and for about 10 years already. Have had them many times - hence not doing a video on 5 Guys. But I do like them
I was going to say the same lol I’m in PA and Five guys is really good!
Even though I'm team whataburger,I like 5 guys too, but being on a disability fixed income can't afford it much so it's a rare treat.
Not a good burger at that price
Try Dairy queen too
Welcome to Texas!! You need to try the classic #1 all the way. I order mine on a toasted bun (or Texas toast) with extra mustard and extra veggies all the way. THAT is what a true classic Whataburger is all about. Not a fair comparison with that sweet and spicy Whataburger. Apples and Oranges but so glad you were able to try Whataburger!
Agreed! He didn't have the true burger most Texans grew up on and love so much! Ours have all the veggies! When he said "bacon jam", I almost fell out of my chair. I live in Missouri and hadn't realized that Whataburger had sissified. Lol...
@@myracox3186 Well, much to the dismay of Texans, Whataburger was sold to a company out of Chicago. Every Texan felt that one.
Sometimes in a morning after work on my Cheat meal day, i'll drive through Whataburger and order a triple meat cheeseburger,Large Fries and Large Chocolate shake and a Large Dr Pepper😋It's horrible on my system ,but damn does it hit the spot🤠
Wow,, I didn't even know you could order a triple meat cheeseburger. That thing must weigh 5 poudns. I can barely get through a single.
@@kateg7298 I usually order one when I'm feeling extra toasty at 12 at night lmao
Love this! Whataburger to Texans is number 1. I feel though you should of tried the #1 or the #5 before the sweet and spicy. Just so that you would get a more legit taste. But my fave is the patty melt 😋😋
I tried In 'n' Out Burger when they first came to San Antonio. I was underwhelmed, and concluded the in-and-out referred to the speed at which the food moved through my digestive system. Whataburger forever.
Shawn I'm from Corpus Christi TX where Whataburger was created. I grew up in Cali. I must say both are delicious. I miss In n Out when I'm here in Texas and I miss Whataburger when in Cali. Teka had her burger on Texas toast...my favorite way to have a Whataburger. Love you both
ahhhh totally understand of missing something when you're not in a place, happens to us too. Hope you're well :)
The breakfast tacos(taquito) with salsa are👍. The Dr. Pepper shake is also really good. The honey butter chicken biscuit is also next level.
You both have been traveling and experiencing different cultures. Feeling the same when going to Scotland. I’m looking forward to more videos Shaun. As for the burger war? Do the same with fish & chips. It’s all mostly yummy, even more so after cocktails. Hugs to you both ✨💖✨
Idk if every whattaburger has it, or we get it here because I can literally walk a little bit and end up in New Mexico, but the Hatch Green Chile double is my favorite burger from them at the moment. Great green chile flavor with a nice low heat, nothing that will have you steaming out your ears or running for the bathroom.
Same - it’s amazing
We can get that in San Antonio (or at least you could), my husband's favorite
They kept the green chile double as a regular item here in Arizona.
They have it in Texas too and it's pretty good.
Yes the hatch burger is available everywhere in season.
I am a lifelong Californian who was born and raised in a town that had a Whataburger back in the '70s. It closed sometime in the early '80s. I thought the burgers were big and tasty, but after it closed down, I never got the chance to try them again ☹
We still have them in the Phoenix area.
If Mel Tillis was alive in today's world, though he lives on, he would make a wing ding where it was needed.
I feel like those were the years that they went through the big change to take over Texas. Their burgers back then were better quality and so were the veges.
I quit eating there 20 yrs ago and since then the prices have skyrocketed.
Life long Texan and just one opinion.
One of the things that makes Whataburger so great is the customization. You are encouraged to order whatever toppings you like. There are standard toppings like mustard. I have seen some posts that said they didn’t like it because they don’t like mustard. Well, they should have asked for no mustard then! 😆. My ex used to always order his with grilled onions. Not my thing, but it’s what he liked. Regardless of the number of toppings you pick, it’s always a good-sized, well-cooked burger.
The burgers are good but they really shine when it comes to breakfasts. I hope that you got a chance to try their taquitos and their pancakes. I'm a WhatABurger girl all the way. Everything is made fresh to order. If you want it fast, go to Burger King.
If you're in San Antonio and think Whataburger breakfast tacos are great...you really need get out more and see a lot more of San Antonio. Mexican restaurants and taquerias all over town in San Antonio with REAL, great tacos...barbacoa, chorizo con huevo, carne guisada, chicharron con huevo, papas con huevo, frijol con huevo y queso, etc. Y la salsa!!! ¡ Aye Yai Yai !😄 etc.
Breakfast is great. Pretty upset they stopped the Jalapeno Cheddar biscuits. That was my jam.
@@patrickdunavan9113 Can't forget machacado and chilaquiles
Love Whataburger Breakfast! There sausage is so good
When you drove from the airport to downtown you went past Whataburger headquarters on the west side of SH 281.
In 1981 moved to San Antonio from California, but I went to college in Pomona, CA when there were only 3 In-N-Outs. Number 3 was in Pomona, so good times. Now that they are in San Antonio life is good, again.
Welcome to San Antonio!! I'm here as well and really hope you have a wonderful time here. I will be heading to Scotland in March. Please let me know where I should go. Oh and the Patty Melt was a definite try at Whataburger. Cheers
One of the best burgers I ever had was at a Whataburger in Florida, I was really hungry and that was easily one of the best burgers I ever had.
So glad you had a chance to get a Whatabuger Did you have a chance to get good Mexican food? My current favorites Lupe Tortilla. La Fogata has the best margaritas. And Tiago’s has the very best chips and salsa and Mexican chocolate cake. Don’t forget to ask for it warmed up. ❤️
I think it’s cool to try these places but I have yet to be blown away by any burger at a chain restaurant, even though people get weirdly emotional about their regional places lol.
I’d rather have a gourmet burger too, but fast food chains provide burgers in a cheaper and more convenient way, so I feel like there’s no way I’m not gonna eat them some of the time. Haha
@@coyotelong4349 Oh I eat them too lol. I just don’t think they should be built up too much. 😁
I've had better burgers in mom and pop diners. But In n Out and Whataburger do make good burgers. And I've enjoyed burgers from both.
@@theattackh1002 exactly! I don’t know why it’s even a battle. Both are good when the management is good. They’re different because one has a simple menu with just the basics but the other has an extensive menu with both breakfast and lunch and dinner items. They’re not even comparable.
You missed out on the spicy Ketchup!!! It MAKES the fries.
Whataburger is also in the state of Alabama here in the United States and we have occasionally eaten there too and we like their burgers
The usual Whataburger most Texans order has hamburger meat, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, & mustard. The customer, however, can substitute items, for example, adding a slice of cheese or substituting mayonnaise for mustard.
I'm glad you enjoyed the sweet & spicy burger from Whataburger. At the time of writing this my local one is closed for remodeling. Love from East Texas.
A Texan since 2001, and I love our Whataburger and think it kills all of the fast food chain burgers, including in and out. The patty melt and the sweet and spicy are my favorites and you have get their onion rings and always have the spicy ketchup
Glad to see you enjoying Texas! My heritage is from Northeastern Scotland (Sutherland). Definitely on my bucket list to visit!
Natural Texan here who grew up on Dairy Queen hamburgers and never had a Whataburger till I was almost grown. Truthfully I like them both. It's hard to say one is better than the other. Also Dairy Queen is another Texas original. Known 1st for the ice cream and later for their hamburger and steak finger baskets.
Dairy Queen tacos are the best!!!
Dairy Queen is not a Texas company, it started Illinois and is headquartered in Minnesota
@@juliegreen6727 actually when they finally started selling franchise outside the state of Texas they did set up a place in Minnesota but 75 years ago it started in south Texas. They didn't leave the state till about 25 years ago.
@@juliegreen6727 just talked to a friend and found out we are both right. Pre WW2 a guy in Illinois started a Dairy Queen up there. War hit and his business didn't grow. Post WW2 a Texas man used his GI money and bought a soft serve machine and started not only Dairy Queen but also Dairy King and Dairy Twin in Texas. He also added a food menu and his business took off. Several years later Illinois found out about the Texas guy and sued him for having the same name. He won the battle for Queen but lost on the King and Twin names. He also took the menu idea and used it so Texas guy counter sued on the menu. But judge went on Illinois side because it was used under the Queen name. By the end Texas guy was left in poverty because the other 2 businesses didn't do as well. So we were both right.
That thick toast is called Texas toast. I'd call a burger patty on toast with cheese a patty melt.
I like In-n-Out Burgers because they package them intelligently so they travel well and their buns always have a lovely crispy edge from perfect toasting. Their fries don't travel well, though; they're lukewarm cardboard by the time I get them home.
I mentioned this in your California video, but I thought I would comment again. I grew up in California and never understood the hype about In-N-Out. They were ok. I mean, there was one right up the street from me, but although I lived there my entire life, I only ate there maybe five times. I have always preferred small restaurants and grill burgers over fast food.
HAHAHA! @ 4:24 I flipped out! I thought those were HIS hands!
Need to try one with the vegetables and toasted buns . You'll will love it . Guaranteed
Currently the burger from Whataburger I've been devouring is the Bacon Blue cheese burger. i love bluecheese and the sharp blue cheese flavor with the peppercorn ranch they put on it is amazing. Love their regular bacon cheeseburgers, patty melt and the BBQ chicken strip sandwich. They are a little light on the salt for their fries so I always ask for extra salt when I do get fries, but I usually get their onion rings instead, which are the best.
The patty melt is amazing when the toast is fresh and crispy, but 80% of the time I ordered one it would be soft and soggy, and I always eat there so it's not like it's steaming in the car on the way home or something. So I just quit ordering the patty melts.
The Whataburger burger place looks interesting. We don’t have them yet in Boston. Patty melts are always a good bet, yummy but a rare treat for me since I am reducing successfully. I like the idea of a strawberry flavored soft drink, but the tons of cancer causing red dye making for its surreal color would probably cause me to pass up this tasting opportunity. Having licked cancer twice (often caused by such food dyes), I would choose a healthier option these days. Enjoy your Texas food tasting trip. Check out a BBQed beef rib slathered in TX hot sauce. Yummy for the tummie!
I love the videos out of San Antonio, I live there and am happy to see you experience the area. In n Out vs Whataburger is definitely a personal preference kind of comparison. I like both for different reasons. Glad you had so much to explore here!
As a Californian who loves In n Out AND Whataburger, you can’t compare them. They each have their own unique taste. I love the mustardy taste of Whataburger but when I want a Double Double nothing else will do! You can enjoy both burgers without comparing them.
Crazy how this burger chain started up in my hometown. WhataBurger may not be the best, but it's home.
The next time you’re in California or any place else that has Inn N Out Burgers, research the secret menu online first. There were so many options on how it can be prepared to your liking including how your onions are cooked or not cooked at all sliced or diced. Personally, I prefer the Double-double Animal Style with a grilled whole onion. It’s also roughly half the price of your whataburger.
Welcome to Texas brother. San Antonio is a great city. I hope you enjoy our diversity from people to culinary arts. BTW I'm from Houston. You should try to catch an Astros game..there are only 12 left in regular season.
I love your honesty.
The great idea about Whataburger is customizing the burger to your taste. Mine is a number 1 with cheese add ketchup, medium fries, and a diet Dr Pepper with no ice.
Used to be a great hamburger chain called Whopper Burger in San Antonio. Absolutely the best. But I think it closed. Always wondered if people just confused it with Whatabutger. If you get a chance to go to the Riverwalk, check out Casa del Rio for the home of the frozen Margarita and Salt Lick for barbecue.
Sorry…looks like The Salt Lick isn’t open anymore in San Antonio. They still have some other locations.
I very much miss Whataburger. Sadly it was sold to a Chicago company some years ago but they're doing
a pretty good job maintaining quality.
Watermelon thump..is a annual festival celebration at Luling. They grow lots of watermelons there.
They also have a parade float that is taken to other towns parades throughout Texas as a promotion of of the town. Yes.. Texas barbecue is wonderful. Are you going to stop by Shiner. At the Shiner brewery. It's awesome to your there. You can get free beer tasting there too. Enjoy my wonderful Texas.
When it’s your first time to Whataburger, always try the Whataburger with Cheese, All the Way with Mustard. Then explore the Menu another time.
One thing you did not take into account is that you can order the burger almost any way you can think of with however number of meat patties and cheese you want. Any item that is on a specialty burger you can put on a regular whataburger also. Can't forget grilled onions...grilled jalapeños..bacon...small bun..larger bun...Texas toast...wheat bun...and even on a platter with no bun
Whataburger does beat In & Out but it is still a chain joint.
I eat there often but have not tried that sandwich. Going to get one today. Thanks mate!
Hi Shaun and Teka! Hamburgers are on my good list of yummy food. Hope you enjoy the one you try here and of course I will be enjoying g this video❤️👍
I think Whataburger used to be in a lot more places than they are now. They’ve pull back to Texas and Arizona. I’m not sure where else they are now. I’ve noticed the ones in Phoenix are not the same as the ones I visited as a kid. I was so happy to find them again and disappointed in what they became.
Shaun, glad to see you are having such a good time. Since you are in Texas, you should hook up with Matt at Demolition Ranch. I think you two would have a great time. Stay safe.
So glad you came to SA! Aww man, you got the patty melt... that's my favorite w/jalapeños.
When you come back to Texas, go to the original Whataburger in Corpus Christi (if you haven't already).
Another great burger joint here in SA is, Sam's Burger Joint --them burgers are HUGE!!
Since you came to Texas, and to my city, I've subbed.🤠
My southern ass from South Carolina would love to visit Scotland. My ancestors came from Scotland..the Calquhouns but when they moved to SC the name was changed to Calhoun from Charleston, SC. Also ancestors are the Hamiltons.
You need the spice catsup for the fries/chips.
My husband grew up in Oregon and so is more impartial them me who mostly grew up around Houston. We both like in and out but we love whataburger. They're kind of hard to compare to one another because they're such different styles though. We don't live near either right now though. It's probably been 10 years since I've been to a whataburger
I miss wattaburger. There was one in Destin when i lived down there but haven't had it since moving back to GA. Love their breakfast.
😂… Thanks for sharing your adventures… I still cook my own at home. I adjust my taste according to what I like at the time. Plus I know what in it. FYI, I just learned to make Scottish Eggs for breakfast. Which are pretty simple.
That’s how I feel, Whataburger and In and Out both have their place. It’s whatever you might be craving at the moment.
Strawberry Fanta is my FAVORITE of the line. Next time you're in the states, seek out a Fuddruckers. You won't be disappointed :). I've never had either burger but In and Out sounds no different than what you can make at home for a cookout with even better results.
YES! Your comment! I have tried both In 'N' Out Burger and Whataburger and I wasn't impressed. Fuddruckers was/is INCREDIBLE. Fuddruckers is also a "Make Your Own Burger" place! Shaun could choose to "Go Healthy" or "Go Dirty" all in one Burger Place--hahaha!
Best burger I EVER had was in a little place called The Bicycle Shop in Slidell, Louisiana. Burger and fries were to die for! Ate there twice when I was visiting there! It put Culvers, Five Guys, Whataburger, etc., to shame, although I love me some Five Guys!
I used to live very close to a Whataburger in Houston TX, now in Florida I have to drive 97 miles one way to get one, but I do go twice a year.
I agree w/you about "In and Out Burger"...💯
Great video
There are some Whataburgers here in NC. We call them Waterburger. Teka's burger is what we would call a patty melt.
We say waterburger here in TX too 💕
Looks like Tekka ordered a Patty Melt. Unlike a hamburger, a patty melt has the burger patty, cheese (usually swiss) and grilled onions between toasted bread.
Toasted bread + burger +cheese + grilled onions + (sometimes) thousand island dressing = patty melt
Ideally it'd be on rye bread, but that's flexible.
Big Red and Dr. Pepper are Texas creations. Make sure you try them. There is a Dr. Pepper museum in Waco, TX
While you're here in San Antonio Texas, you should checkout an Mexican restaurant called Mi Tierra down the street from where you shot this. Enjoy your time here and be safe.😎🇺🇸🍻
Whataburger raises their own beef. A traditional Whataburger is the thing to have. The fries(chips) are almost identical to McDonalds fries. The thing that makes Whataburger different is when they say “just the way you like it”, they mean it.
Strawberry Fanta? You should try Big Red, if you haven't already. It's a popular soda down in Texas, too.
Big Red is a Big Hit on Saturday and Sunday mornings in San Antonio for those who have a hangover, along with a bowl of menudo and/or huevos rancheros, and /or a taco of carne guisada or barbacoa(greasier the better)...plus a long nap. I speak from personal experience.😄
The Chips, Fries, are plain but they are just a vessal for the Spicy Ketchup ! , also you can ask for extra crispy fires
Never had an In & Out burger, but Whataburger has recently moved into the Atlanta area. I don't know if you were able to try a Showmars's burger when in Charlotte, NC. Their bun is pita with a patty cut in half. Also from NC (but has spread throughout the SE US) is Cook Out.
I grew up in Texas and spent my adult life in California and I think you nailed it: Whataburger is down and dirty fast food and In-N-Out is very fresh. I definitely prefer In-N-Out. Hope they let me back into Texas when I got to visit my family. 🙂
I love Whataburger. You either get it or you don't. Because of all the options for your burger, over 30k different combinations, I think that Texans love Whataburger because everyone gets what they want.
We got a whataburger in my town in Alabama last year. I have never been so disappointed. Cookout is so much better
I'm from VA, so no regional prejudices, and have had both In n Out and What a Burger. What a Burger hands down.
Dang it! I was just in San Antonio and almost went to that Whataburger. You're just by the River Walk. We went to see Rammstein in concert. Sorry to have missed you.
The #2 Double Meat Whataburger Combo with cheese and GRILLED onions (no pickles) is my jam. Spicy ketchup and a Co-Cola!
The Whataburger (Water burger) we ate in Dallas when we lived there was much better than the one we ate in later years. Something in their burgers has changed.
Most likely the buns,, Whataburger only used Mrs. Bairds buns, but when Mrs Bairds sold out to Bimbo Bakery,, it changed, dramatically......
Hello, Shaun! Hope you're enjoying your stay in Texas.. Yeah, Texans get emotional about Whataburger..SA does have great food options! Authentic Mexican food.. I'm in Dallas-Fort Worth, and most Mexican food here is Tex-Mex, which I love, but SA it's a tad easier to find authentic.
Most of SA is Tex-Mex too. Though I love Tortas Ahogadas El Chivito near Crossroads when I want something more interior Mex. If you order the hottest one it is very very spicy, like turn your mouth red level hot. Last time I got one the owner kept telling me it would make me cry, but I like heat so I insisted. Cascabel Mexican Patio on South St Mary's used to be amazing for interior stuff like tinga, cochinita pibil, tlacoyos, huitlacoche, etc but I haven't been since the original owners sold. Still seems to get great reviews so I should check it out again. Loved the nopales salad that came with every plate too.
We have them here in Tulsa also. Having lived in California whataburger is alot like in and out.
Shaun--I hope this reaches you in time. I lived in San Antonio for years. While there you must get some Tex-Mex food at Chacho's (I like the one in Leon Valley the best!) It will change the way you imagine Mexican food--think of your turtle soup experience in New Orleans. You are also morally obligated to get a chicken fried steak there--for that, go to DeWese's Tip Top Cafe!! But, if you want to continue the quest for a definitive Texas burger, go to Chris Madrid's and order a cheeseburger. You won't believe your eyes.
I'll second that on the Tip Top Cafe's chicken fried steak. Also...DO get an order of onion rings. And their enchiladas covered with chili & onions(get some Rolaids)ain't too shabby either!😃
7+ flavors of most different sodas are found in certain fast food chains. Wendy's is my favorite that always has them. Unfortunately, they will taste watered down or the choice will be unavailable when the cartridge is empty. If the a certain flavor is unavailable or tastes watered down, please tell an employee IMMEDIATELY!!! They will replace them in the machine as needed, whenever they are not too busy.
Please come to visit Corpus Christi, TX is very beautiful!!
I'm in Utah and I've never tried either of these places. 🤷♀️ I make a great burger at home though!
Have fun!
Come to Amarillo, Texas, and try to eat The Big Texan's 72 oz steak dinner Free if eaten within one hour. You must eat the entire meal, not just the meat. Previous winners are listed online and would really surprise you.
Whataburger has such strong memories for me. All good. For me the best thing is the spicy mustard. But I have to have lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles on my burger.
