I just found your videos you honestly do some beautiful work the air brushing you do if so awesome by far your work is the best I've seen i hope you come back and show us more
PROJECTOR! Of course! I've been wanting to do cutout yard art for a few years and finally have a prime location to display it. I'm just terrible at drawing, but I'm decent at carpentry (machinist/welder by trade)
By far the best yard art video I've seen. Your work was great but when you added the airbrushing...... AMAZING! I am a big fan of shadowing & it sure took your art up an extra notch!
awesome job, found this template bought into photoshop enlarged it and printed it out poster mode on letter size paper and taped togegther, no projector. will be first lawn ornament l am making, retired DYI"r here. air brushing looks fun. lots of practice to get it right cant wait
@@ejones2219 have gotten some minion templates. never have airbrushed just need to know and look into what equipment l need but not spend to much i know its practice and more practice
@@charlesgerlach7059 Minions are a good idea! I may have to make some of them! I use Iwata airbrushes, I have about 20 of them and have used them basically everyday for 15 years.
Wow funny I vame across your video awesome work by the way. Love how the airbrush makes it have a totally different texture. I do cutouts and was looking for something to seal them and i chose the the one you used in this video .. Awesome. And I just found out about the projector ive beem drawing them for 6 years so time consuming smh
Hey thats great! Yeah the projector does save a lot of time. I airbrush for a living and any tool that can speed up the process. I would freehand everything when it was a hobby but doing art for money, every minute has to count for something. Good luck to you and thanks for watching!
@@ejones2219 yes totally agree .. What typr of projector do you use or recommend for something like this . I really want to invest in one maybe not to expensive .
@@eastcoastcrazy1 I like the eclipse, but its not a must. I feel that they all do about the same. I have about 2 dozen (eclipse) that I work extremely hard on a daily basis to make a living. But for an occasional project, a harbor freight double action would work just fine.
Guess it depends on how you want to go about it. I paint T shirts mainly. I have an airbrush set up for every color. But just one airbush would be just fine, you will have to clean out between colors. I used water base Createx shirt paint for all of this. With a clear coat sealant to finish your good to go!
@@ejones2219 Doing cut outs like you were showing is my intent. You have inspired me. I may need to stick to a brush and paint can. Anyway - if you have a favorite - please offer it up ... I am interested.
It's me again...I'm putting polycrylic on my wood cutouts (I used acrylic paints), the dark blue paint seems to bleed into white paint next to it (I'm using a paintbrush to apply the polycrylic), so I towel blotted it to get the blue off. Is this normal? Ur green or other dark colors didn't seem to bleed into the white. Is the polycrylic really going to protect my project(s) from the rain, snow, & sun? Will the rain make the paint bleed? I mean, if the water-based acrylic paint and the water-based polycrylic is just going to run when it rains?! What's the point?! I'm desperate...
I honestly don't remember. I bought that paint over 10 years ago for a wall mural. Pretty sure it was a Walmart reject paint. The airbrush paint is aquaflow Hawaiian green.
Hey yeah, that's a good question! So the primer seals the wood and gives the paint a good white base color to start with. Also the primer keeps the (color) paint from soaking into the wood. The paint I use is waterbase acrylic, it will wash with water. The polycrylic is a "clearcoat" sealer. It keeps the weather from washing the paint off the wood. Hope this helps!
I use a Prism projector by artograph. Ive had it for 15 years so not sure whats out there now days. I have used an overhead projector from church or schools in the past.
I believe it was 5/8 not treated. Smooth on one side. But you can use what ever you want to use. May want to do a couple layers of white primer on treated wood.
Hey! Great Vid-- def laughed at the big eyes part ;) .. I Just made my first cut recently and trying to seal it properly. Do you feel like rolling on the polycrylic lifts some of the airbrush details off?
😆 thanks!! I feel like rolling the poly on did better than brushing it on. I think the flat brush kinda smeared it a little. I havnt tried this but you should be able to spray a light coat of rattle can clear over the paint just to keep any from lifting.
@@ejones2219 That's a good idea too. Wondering if I can airbrush the sealer. I guess that would be the same or similar as spraying from a can itself. Thanks for the reply. I hope you make more art vids ;)
@@michelepoli1847 I thought about using a spray gun like I use to paint cars but it would take a lot of coats to be thick enough. Yeah I really need to record some more paint videos. Thanks for your interest!

So accurate with the air brush!! Very nice. Learned a lot.

what kind of paint brand is that for the grinch ,
This is much better than some I've seen. Airbrushing really makes things look more realistic.

what is the air brush pen wicked1!
The airbrush is Iwata eclipse. Ive used many different brushes over the 19 years Ive been painting and this is hands down my favorite!
Good Job!
What paints are you using?
I used house paint for the base colors and acrylic airbrush paint for the details.
Any recommendations on a projector??? :) Nice work!

@@ejones2219 thanks for the response. Your airbrushing totally brings it to life and makes it pop. Wish I had talent like that!!
When it comes to painting, I'm ignorant...primer at the beginning and polycrylic at the end...do u need both, and what does each one do?

WPS!
How do you steak them into the ground?
I attached conduit to the back. That way you can put rebar in the ground and slide the conduit over it.

What airbrush kit do you use
I use the Iwata eclipse. Been use the same airbrushes for over 15 years now.
please do a vid with the projector!!! thanks
I'll see what I can do! I plan to make several up at one time this season.
Do you have a link to the pattern and final dimensions?
I dont have a pattern. I used a projector to trace the image onto the wood.
Where did you get the sleigh? Is that built or purchased?
@@gwenhooste2009 The sleigh was purchased. I never actually seen the sleigh, I was giving the dimensions to cut out the characters.

Where is your Air Brush shop located?
In the big town of Searcy Arkansas
So how long did this really take? I haven't picked up a skill saw since HS and I'm 41, but you have really inspired me to try this.
Well.... about 6-8 hours total but waiting on paint to dry, drags it out over a couple of days.
