Back in November I found 4 really young five lined skinks and brought them inside for the winter. They are already about half grown and I can already tell that I have 2 males and 2 females. My males are already getting the red heads and they are starting to spar with each other sometimes. I also have 3 adult females and 1 adult male in hibernation in a bin on my porch. I can't wait until April to get everyone outside in their 100 gallon bioactive enclosure. I never leave them in the enclosure to hibernate because they can't dig down below the frost line in the enclosure and will freeze to death. I brought the babies inside to feed them over the winter and give them a headstart. I breed red runner cockroaches for them and I have thousands of red runners. Five lined skinks are great pets and can actually live to 12 years old. I personally think that they do much better when they are kept outside and can get natural sunlight. Mine actually do a legit job for me by protecting my strawberry plants that I have planted in their enclosure and they are very good at it. I used to have 3 DeKays brown snakes in the enclosure but they all passed away without reproducing which leads me to believe that they were all the same sex.

That sounds like a neat setup that you have! My brother had a nice bioactive terrarium set up a LONG time ago, and he had a pair of Ground skinks actually lay eggs that hatched..They are unbelievable small as hatchlings...

So many junks in the woods in the 1st leg of the video, it was a little depressing tbh. People have no respect for their environment 😢

It’ll be alright, just try and enjoy the video.
Like me, Noah is an avid naturalist who loves the environment. I bet like me he often cleans up some of this trash when he finds it too.
Don’t get too depressed over it, often times this “trash” also forms usable habitat for the animal too.

This area is a floodplain where a lot of trash from the cities upstream accumulates. Hence the tires and wood, things that can float into the forest when it floods.

Those narrow-mouthed toads are inoffensive, slightly toxic and go with anything. They may protect the green snake eggs from ants and green snakes may stay with their eggs. Microhylids function as a cleanup crew in tarantula burrows already. Also nice kingsnakes and great number of water snakes.

@@tkreitler right but I hear the ticks in Florida are murderous, so I imagine that's the case in Georgia too.

    • @NKFherping

I don’t use anything to repel insects, I don’t want to expose the animals or environment to unnecessary chemicals and they don’t work for me anyways. I wear shorts and sandals often during tick season so I feel them when they hit my skin and crawl, so I can remove as many as possible before they get a chance to attach.
