here's another one the stone of destiny also known as jacobs pillow was brought with the scots from eygpt it was the Key Stone of king solomons temple and now sits in edinburgh castle
The Romans were used to the people of Scotland's battle tactics, the Scots knew their land very very well, and the Romans failed miserably to conquer Scotland, the Romans called the Scots as "Picts" - because of their blue tattoos in battle and they called the land of Scotland as "Caledonia" and Ireland as "Hibernia". England and Wales were the only lands nearby that were conquered by the Romans and named as "Britannia" - an extended province of Rome. Scotland has never truly been conquered.
@segano1 Scotti were originally from Ireland (the Romans couldn't really make their mind up over whether they'd call Ireland Hibernia or Scotia - they called Scotland Caledonia). Later the Scotti (or "Scots" in English) settled in what's now western Scotland & according to legend they took over/united with the Picts (the original inhabitants of northern Scotland) to found the Kingdom of Alba - which seems to have adopted the name Scotland as far as English-speakers are concerned, while Ireland's
@3tangle3 now just called "Ireland" -from the Irish "Eire", not Scotland. All a bit confusing, but then history is. I suppose the present is as well...maybe even more confusing than the future.
according to St Coluba when the scots first arrived in Ireland they found ireland uninhabited and barren I take it he meant Ireland wasn't cutivated the scots then moved from ireland which at that time was also known as scotland they moved through the inner hebrides ie Islay and on to Argyle and created the kingdom of dalriata The Scots got their name from an eygptian princess called Scota
@segano1 I was merely highlighting certain origins!! scotti tribe were in what is now ulster...have a read up - you;re identity is your own....if you were proud to be peruvian i should respect that ;)
cheers Finn) They try to change history all the time to fit in with their own theories which are warped they don't realise you can't change history but they keep trying
@3tangle3 It's the other way around, there is no evidence that any major number of people came from Ulster to Scotland/Caledonia beyond Columba and a few of his missionaries after he was exiled from Ireland, so he came to Scotland at the Isle of Iona, and set up his Christian monastery to preach to the early Scots. That's why all the evidence points to Dál Riata having always been part of Scotland/Caledonia and migration went 'to' Antrim not 'from', even the capital, Dunadd, was in Scotland,
The Scots migrated from Ireland, hence the gaidhlig everywhere in the placenames. I'd call that evidence. The picts lived in 'Caledonia' before the celts, the evidence being on the pictish stones. Don't believe what you read on Wicky.. Claymore; claidheamh cùil, a back-sword with three blood grooves running down the Blade like the Basket Sword. Claidheamh leathann, a broadsword; Claidheamh dà-làimh, a two-handed sword, properly Claidheamh mór. AKA Claymore has been around since Willam the Lion's era and the name has moved along with time but basicly it means a Scottish Sword. Anyway enjoy Matts haverin..
If Ireland was barren and uninhabitated according to the chronicles of St Columba when the Scots arrived their then were did the Irish people come from they were origionally Scots
Scotland was part of Ireland. Its only offshore Province and was called Alba or Albanach or Dal Riada by the Irish. Conlech son of Cu Chulainn was reared there by his Scottish Mother Aoife. The Lia Fail the Stone of Destiny was caqlled The Roaring Stone because it roared when the true king stood on it.
The eygptian princess called Scota whom the Scots got there name from is buried in Ireland and her place of burial is well known another thing is the picts were well known for there stone carvings they reckon it was the pics who were involved in the stone decoration on the pyramids the only other place they have found that stone work is in ancient Scotalnd one theory is that the picts returning home brought Scota an eygptian princess with them and they took there new name from her
Matt was one of the best Scottish entertainers ever! R.I.P Matt.

Great singer. My big brother loved Matt. He is in a home now but every time I hear Matt I think of him. His favourite was the big Effie B.

The world is older than you or I know...
On the other hand, it had a hand in creating the British way of living.

Bullshit.
Complete and utter BullShit. Scotland was never ever "part of Ireland"
Same people, different kingdoms.
@3tangle3 'Scotti' isn't Irish and isn't a tribe either,
Scotland is a completely different nation from Ireland.
Ya cowardly crew! Nicola Sturgeon daring to call a referendum
@segano1 be careful using the word "scot" from scotti an irish tribe ;)
Did you all ken that the Picts used phsycological warfare on the Romans

Over time, it has been culturally conquered by the British way of living.

Siol Alpin
No it hasn't.
Actually, the Picts predate the Scots in Scotland.
Aye but Scotland was born from the people's coming as one.
That wasn't one of his best songs to say the least.
Britain is an island, on which Scotland is on so your comment is invalid.
