  • Abused and forgotten Donkey!! What Can I Do to Help?? This Donkey called Elvis was bought by the best man as a wedding present! Soon he was left with 500 sheep to fend for himself. He was chased my quad and motorbikes and abused often! His Rescuers started well with him but due to ill health things have turned bad. Elvis cant be lead around and needs heavy sedation to have his feet tended to, his feet were so bad when he was rescued that he need them operating on! here Steve and Dan try to help him and teach him to lead a little better. I volunteer at Donkey and Equine Haven USA in Celina, Texas. We take in donkeys and horses from kill pens. Unfortunately, we see animals in similar condition often. It is tragic. We take animals of any age and condition and give them whatever medical, hoof, dental and nutritional care they need. Our goal is to find them forever loving homes. Thank you for featuring this donkey. Love your videos! I have learned so much from you!

God bless you for all that you do for these poor innocent creatures. I pray for the day when it is no longer needed and people learn to take proper care of them.
The day is upon us when many changes are coming. Now is the time to understand to love on another, especially animals.
Those filled with hate & cruelty will no longer be apart of the new world.
You may not understand this now, but by 2025 it will be understandable.
      Benevolent blessings to you 🍀

This is amazing! I would love to know the process of how to go about providing a forever home for a horse or two and maybe a donkey. The majority of our chicken flock is rescues, our two goats were rehomed to us. One was rejected from the goat Mom and the other was bullied on the farm she was at. They are the best. I see a dairy cow, and a horse or two in our future. And after watching Elvis, I am now thinking perhaps a donkey. Our barn is set up for goats only. A horse or donkey would kick right through the metal and metal panel fencing we have in there. I need to see about a seperate stall house made of proper materials to properly house the horse and donkey. God Bless you.

You don't give animals as a gift, unless you _know_ that the person really wants an animal. In this case, I have a feeling that it was done as a bit of a joke - hahaha - which only makes it that much worse. It led to absolute misery for this little donkey. Both groom and best man are asses (no pun intended), if you ask me. On a different note: Elvis is so cute! I just want to brush him and oil his hoofs and make him all pretty. 🐣🐴 #ElvisSpaDay

That is awful. Poor Elvis. He’s such a handsome boy. No living creature should be treated as a piece of property with no regard to,their quality of life. Abusing an animal is the equivalent of abusing children…neither can protect themselves, both need love and kindness to flourish, both need descent nutrition, medical care, etc. but if someone chooses to neglect those responsibilities through neglect and/or abuse neither has recourse unless someone sees it and steps forward to report it. Abusiveness is generational and passed on from parent to child, which also makes intervention so important.

I raised donkeys in Montana for several years. I broke several of them to ride, and our daughters rode them in the mountains where we had our cabin. They were full of personality and loved attention. One jenny we bought as a weanling and had until she died at the age of 25. We took her to many parades, classroom show and tells, and even showed her in a trail class against horses at the county fair. I found them all to be responsive, very smart, and quite trainable as long as you didn't overface them. They are cautious and get an underserved rep for stubborness when really they are hesitating if they are unsure of their circumstances. I'm 80 now and just have two horses, no donkeys, but if I were younger, I'd have another one in a heartbeat. They do need regular hoof trimming and limited pasture availabilty or they will founder.

I understand your response but lately I’ve started to believe that animals are awakened souls who are here in part to soften our hearts and teach us to love. Dear sweet Elvis is on a mission! Don’t misunderstand - I don’t want anything or anyone to suffer but truly believing there is a higher purpose and that something bigger is happening really helps me let go of so much negativity and that leaves more room for loving energy. This increases my vibration and therefore the vibration of this beautiful planet. Just wanted to share this in case it helps you too. Blessings.

Like a lion who has just ate will happily allow a zebra walk on by...animals kill to protect themselves or to eat. A lot of humans kill and destry for the sake of it . I know I sound very negative but not all is lost as i also see the people like these rescuers and people who rescue animals all over the world taking care of them. But 9 times out of 10 the animal is in that state because of the human who mistreated them in the first place 😢.......❤

I never knew how donkeys can be really playful until I watched some videos of a happy donkey that seems to be someone's pet. This donkey loves squeaky toys - especially rubber chickens. What an incredible transformation in such a short space of time. Whe he relaxed after the leading, his ears were forward and he didnt look half as shut down as he did when he started.
The way his head dropped when dan went to grab his hoof was heartbreaking though. Im so pleased he got through that

In the beginning he was learning and recognizing your gentle touch. But the feet...poor guy
Youll get him to trust again😊
He looks unbothered at the end. Lucky Elvis to have found such a great group to care for him and train him. Go Elvis!!!

Another visit to this wonderful couple who care so well for those they rescue. You helped them with a horse a while back, and now you've been able to change a donkey's life for the better. Well done, everyone! So good to see, and to know that your work continues.

Thank you, as always, for sharing this donkey's story. Elvis is fortunate in so many ways. I do hope you will share the full video for the re-trim in a few months. I'm certain Elvis will remember his positive experience with you and Dan and it will go well, just as you say. Another wonderful video.

Good thing he had not learned to bite and they can cow kick. I have seen way to much animal neglect over my life's journey and been pro-active in calling it in. And you know it continues and is so sad in the year 2024 with so many advantages to learn from folks like Steve and family. There is really no excuse for it given the various social platforms where people can observe, learn or request assistance. I had adopted a sweet little pinto donkey from the BLM in Nevada and she was such a joy to my life.

I get the impression that Elvis is a smart donkey. I don’t know if all donkeys are smart, but he seemed to catch on quickly that a. He was not going to be hurt, and b. everyone actually meant him well. He seemed to be struggling with the courage to face his fears more than anything. Perhaps I am wrong and you were all at it for three hours!
