When my dad, aunt and cousin died within the same year, I had downloaded this movie "illegally " but damn I cried every time I watched it, I sang along and downloaded the movie versions of the songs. This movie got me through some dark times.
Two of my favorite music icons represented here! Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix! beautiful song worthy of The Beatles. Though nothing will ever replace them.
it's a beautiful musical story you "tards!!" Brilliantly put together, and the vocals are spectacular!!! No one is trying to replace anyone... it's harmony of a little Janice, Hendrix, Joe, and the Beatles...damn fantastic!! ohhhhhhhh Darlin.. is my fave!!!
I'm 62 so I knew it was him immediately! LOL I told my daughter this today while watching the movie for the first time. WHAT A GREAT MOVIE! I could swear that the other older guy is Randy Bauckman? Is it? I just can't b get over this movies it was so well done! Knowing all the songs at that! HUM? Could be I'm 62! LOL 62! I don't want to think about this; just the movie! lol GREAT! AWESOME! FAB as I'd say when 13 , 14, & 15! The fab4 4ever!
Did anyone else notice that they're singing this on a rooftop? That's exactly how the Beatles ended their last performance :) This is why I love this movie so much, they make my love for the Beatles reignite all over again
I love this song it's so good. I wish i live in the 60's the music is way better then what I have to live with now I can't take it give me some meaning give me some soul. I am 28 and I need something to pull me though this wonderful life I was given. You always think maybe when the 60's come back around maybe it will happened but I am not holding my breath.
0:55 left of the screen. Janis Joplin Drove a car with that exact paint job. Across The Universe has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. No joke. It's in my Top Five.
this movie is a memory of what the world was, love a spark that helped to go on, war as shame...lets across the universe and try to stand up for our right to be! From Portugal
Helter Skelter and She's So Heavy is considered the first metal songs by most music critics. They both came from blues (SSH particularly) and use a lot of conventions still found in Metal today. The Beatles loved to hear covers of their music, especially when it was done different. Jonh Lennon himself helped Elton John do Lucy in the Ska with Diamonds. (Not a spelling error ^^)
I actually really liked what they did with the movie. After seeing the trailer, I shouted "blasphemy" and swore to never see it. But I'm so glad I gave it a chance. They're not trying to BE the Beatles, they're trying to pay homage to the Beatles. Stuff like having a concert on the rooftop shows that these aren't people who want to sip into the Beatles' vast income, but rather real fans who wanted to interpret the songs into a story of the 60's. Beautiful, man. Beautiful.
This is a really good rendition of this song, but my favorite cover of this by a mile is Paolo Nutini’s cover. The man’s got more emotion in his voice than any artist in todays market that I can think of. It gives me chills every time I hear it. I absolutely recommend whoever sees this to give it a listen
@@HeyCupertino 👍 Not a problem brother, Paolo is a legend. His abbey road sessions and his other acoustic session have got to be some of the most soulful music I’ve ever heard. Never fails to give me goosebumps.
their voices balance each other well. Sadie has that bad ass rocker raspy sound and jojo's voice is real silky smooth! I freakin love this song soo much, I love the original but they do such a great job with it too
They were trying to make it seem as if Janice Joplin and Jimi Hendrix were singing this together, since Sadie being Janice Joplin, and JoJo being Jimi Hendrix is hinted at a bit; just think that's cool :)
+cary allen Actually you can literally see Janis' real car (that psychedelic porsche) parked on the front of the building and also the back this hippie girl looking up that really looks like her right on the center of the camera on a couple of shots... so the real one is also there :)
You miss the point.Yes-it was made in 2007,but it's supposed to be set in the '60's-around the time of the woodstock era, when Janis and Jimi were at the height of their careers.
nice rendention, no one ever covers a song with the intention of doing it better than the original it's about paying homage and they did a wonderful job
I just noticed the date on this. You uploaded this song the day my mother died. That day lasted forever, but songs like this make things like that a bit more bearable.
i never knew before yesterday that this was from an actual event the Beatles played. They're last time they played together was on the roof of a building and it was totally random like this. they also played this song. yay for beatles documentaries! :D
isn't a cover supposed to be original? I love that in Across the Universe, they took amazing songs and made them their own. This is not an insult to the Beatles. This is showing great respect for their song writing.
@hazetubist just so you know something like 90% of the singing in this movie is live on tape it wasn't recorded in studio tweeked to perfection then played over footage. Julie Taymor knew that voices and inflictions in a singer's voice change when they are signing to someone in character or in a studio. if you listen to the sound track the music is completely different
Well, the roof has actually some meaning in a beatle kind of way. Don't forget the applebuilding concert, where they sing this song. I think there is a connection...
I wish people would stop putting down this movie, it's called an interpretation for a reason. the movie was incredibly clever using a great love story and incorporating a variety of different beatles songs throughout. if they were to replicate the original stuff, it would be a documentary. nothing touches the beatles and the original versions, but across the universe is a good movie.
yes I guess that's the idea, have you seen the weird guy dancing like joe cocker on cocker's song? a lot of beautiful details... To see over and over...
@ScarlettRoberts yeah, I think that was the reference. It's clear that the black guy is Jimi, but I never thought of Janis Joplin until now. It makes sense.
gosh, it was a polemic movie, everybody knows that.. and people who liked are not criminals. It's a tribute! and anyone can love the band the way they want.
Jude: Is that Sadie?
Radio: You got that right!
Cracks me up every time.
Don't Let Me Down is one of my favorite Beatles songs. I frickin' love this movie!
You can TOTALLY see the love Sadie and JoJo have for each other here. It's really beautiful.

Dana's voice is sooooo amazing! Total rock!

I love that when I searched the original song on YT the first video was of the Beatles performing it on a rooftop as well :)

In the sky with diamonds, of course.

It's so awesome when it screens over to him and shows that they are together.. Gave me goosebumps the first time I saw this.

No your mama helped me :) I was just stating my opinion on how I thought that was cool. Go troll somewhere else.

Really? well that's interesting to say the least
to whoever said the real Janis Joplin was in the movie, she died around the early 70s at age 27, this movie was made in 2007
You miss the point.Yes-it was made in 2007,but it's supposed to be set in the '60's-around the time of the woodstock era, when Janis and Jimi were at the height of their careers.
A great interpretation of the Neatles songs. Not too sentimental and well thought out. Loved it
They sing so nice... I think that they are the only who can sing BEATLES' songs in a such as beautiful way... :) RESPECT!
The cast is perfect.
I'm watching this especially because today is the ROCK'S DAY!

aaah! McCoy's voice is so smooth, it's melting me.
I LOVE THE BEATLES AND ALL THEIR SONGS IT DOESN'T MATTER TO ME WHO SINGS THEM.
I love the friendship between Max and Prudence (yes, i realize it's not a romance thing). It's still cute.
not only that.. the beatles played their last concert on top of the apple building 1969. the same place they filmed this. thats why its so iconic
nice rendention, no one ever covers a song with the intention of doing it better than the original it's about paying homage and they did a wonderful job
I just noticed the date on this. You uploaded this song the day my mother died. That day lasted forever, but songs like this make things like that a bit more bearable.

i love the hendrix/joplin vibe they bring to the movie
isn't a cover supposed to be original? I love that in Across the Universe, they took amazing songs and made them their own. This is not an insult to the Beatles. This is showing great respect for their song writing.
Oh! Okay, I got it now. Thank you.
that has got to be the sexiest couple ever to grace a screen and sing together.
l love this remake of song!

@heelrunner No, the Beatles performed on top of Apple studio in London, where in this film its in a New York City rooftop.
this movie is terrific!!!!
@ScarlettRoberts yeah, I think that was the reference. It's clear that the black guy is Jimi, but I never thought of Janis Joplin until now. It makes sense.

It's suppose to be the famous last concert the Beatles did on top of the the apple records building in New York
llena de sentimiento
Its such human nature to be a hater. Paul loved the way the film came out-- and so do I.
