This is a much better video review of a retro-style camera than Kai's review of the Df from his DigitalRev days. A lot more polished, and he actually seems to be reviewing this camera for what it is: A retro-inspired digital camera that's not taking the place of any of their existing Z-line cameras.
I've been obsessed with Canon and Sony for a while... My first camera was a Nikon D5600 and now this got me looking at Nikon again. 👀 Especially with the colors. I love the Amber Brown!
Personally, I still wouldn't. Even with FF, Nikon just swings short every single time in comparison to Fuji. But, I get it. If they hit a homerun, I'm right there with ya.
its really cool how Nikon are reviving the sturdy, functional look and layout of old analogue slrs with their mirrorless cameras. It would be cool to see this trend extended to DSLRs too so that plastic ergonomic Canon eos look may become a thing of the past.
I just pre-ordered. It was love at first sight with this one. Miss my old FE 2 and FM. Loving the flippy screen mainly for the protection of the LCD screen. Many times the camera winds up in the purse and I’ve already smashed one LCD screen. I’ve been much more careful since that incident.
Ah so good to see Kai and Lok together, I miss the old digital rev days, you’re the reason why I began to take photography seriously! I was heart broken when I didn’t hear you talking about bokeh!
It’s a good first step for Nikon. Hope it sells well and they make a full frame version. I am a fuji X user and will definitely switch to Nikon if there is a full frame Df 👍🏼
I made this switch just recently. Went from Fuji X-T4 to Nikon Z5 (and the 14-30mm f4) because of the ff-sensor. Very satisfied with Nikon, amazing image quality. A Nikon Zf full frame would be so cool as an addition for, say, street photography or for travelling.
Could this be the new Nikon teaser strategy to get the community excited again and longing for a FF version plus other wishes? If yes, the reactions and results are overwhelmingly obvious. They did the dual card slot upgrade thing in Z7 II pretty quickly. The ball is back in your court Nikon! Patience is gold
@@LetsGoFilm I sure hope so, because I don't understand the value prop for this camera. It's worse than a Fuji in every way. I really just want a full-frame X-T4, and Nikon would be back in the game!!
@@CaptTerrific In fact Nikon's APSC cameras usually sold more than those full frame models, for example D5000 series and D3000 series. So it's understandable that Nikon decided to make a APSC Zf prior to a full frame Zf
I’d say X-T30 :) But yes, 7 years after Fuji introduced the X-T1, Nikon decides to enter the crop sensor retro game. Two issues. One, they can’t compete with Fuji’s lens catalog at this point. Two, because their lenses lack aperture rings, they’re still saddled with the PASM dial. That means, for example, if you have a shutter speed set on the physical dial then switch to P or A, that dial is out of the equation AND shows an incorrect value. Ditto the ISO dial. My Df was the same way. As long as you have to set the aperture with a “soft” dial and not an aperture ring, the lovely retro controls are pretty to look at but don’t function as efficiently or intuitively as a standard front/back dial for shutter speed and aperture and an assignable button for ISO.
The controls are almost exactly X-T1, right down to the non-threaded shutter button. O.o. Good to see Nikon showing analogue styles some love though. Maybe Canon will follow suit.
Sweet, a digital mirrorless version of my FE and FM. I've been waiting for this camera for ten years so I had to go Fuji in the mean time. Nikon, take my Fuji money.
And do away with all be amazing Fuji lenses? I wouldn't be jumping ship too early. Canon and Nikon could have come over to the mirrorless scene long ago but they chose to hold off. If Fuji ain't broken why try and fix it. It's just another tool at the end of the day.
@@mjfalcon007 Exactly it's just another tool. That's what somebody said when I jumped ship from Nikon DSLRs to Fujifilm back in 2012. Now I have both X and some Z tools now and I can tell you from my own experience that I like what's coming out of the Z system and also I still have all my F glass that are still amazing. I found Kai´s new glasses more interesting than the camera...
Kai, typical Nikon chill! Waiting the end of the vids to hear it's missing full frame sensor!
Don't mind the fully articulating screen but would prefer the X-Pro3 flip down hide away screen, but it'd make too much fuss and controversy 🤣
The Df was a Quasimodo of a camera, this looks WAAYYYY better 👌👌
I assume it stands for “Z fusion classic”.
lmfaooo good one
I thought full control
@@luanzondervan7402 The "Df” in Nikon Df stood for "Digital Fusion”. That was their 1st attempt at merging digital with nostalgic styling.
Could stand for Gen Z Fun Camera.
I ended up watching the whole video for the entertainment value even though I jus needed some info on the camera. So Kai... well done, it's a "two birds with one stone" for the viewers.... Nice camera by the way. I think I want one just for the aesthetics of the hardware. 🤫
7:52, look at the size of that mount!!! Why is this not ff!? WHY!!!?
Maybe because FF already has some and APSC for Z series only nikon z50 ^^
Gabriela J This camera is outclassed and out numbered by the Fuji X series and their lenses. If Nikon wants to compete, it should go ff. This will not sell as well as they think. They have the space for ff sensor. Why not?
Nikon, please make a full frame version of this. Maybe with Z6 II innards. Will fly off the shelf.
Still waiting on a company to do this with full frame.
leica. It's only possible because they use extra mirrors to compensate for the too small flange to sensor distance
A retro Nikon camera with flip screen?! Take my money! 💰
agreed!!!!
no IBIS what a bummer
