Amazing. Nikon take z50 to another level, well done!
What a great Camera
Wow, amazing features, so much more than I would have expected. The slight change to the body make it look so much better too. Really like the pop up flash which i found so useful on my D3400. If I didn't have a recently purchased Z5 I would definitely order a Z50 11. Actually I'm still tempted. Well done Nikon.
This would be insane for car photography!!
A great video Ricci, thx!
Notice firmware features on this that we don’t have on Z6 III - Can we expect a firmware update soon? With bird mode and option to set AF box line thickness and AF mode cycle options like the Z8 and now Z50 II?
Great video Ricci 🙏🙏
I've reprogrammed the video record button on my z6 to do picture control selection. Quite handy to switch between my presets.
Yeah, this is just a gimmic to compete with Fuji, not actual value to user
Nikon has done it to me again... almost. I'm a nature photographer who likes to pack his camera along when hiking, backpacking, back country canoeing, snow shoeing, etc. Bought my first DSLR, a D70, in 2004 and loved how the DX format allowed for smaller, lighter cameras and lenses. The D70 was followed by a D200 and then a D300s. In 2015, I gave up waiting for a follow on to the, by then, long-in-the-tooth D300s and, instead, purchased a D7200. Just a few months later, Nikon announced the D500! While the D7200 has been a good camera for me, the D500 would have been a much better fit. Alas, I was in no position financially to move from the D7200 to the D500. Also in 2015, I purchased a D5500 to use as a backup and walkaround camera.
Fast forward to 2024. A few years back, I cracked the LCD on the D5500 so, I leapt into the mirrorless world by purchasing the Z50. Really missing the flip screen I had on the D5500, I ultimately also purchased a Z30 (I like to record video -- including selfies -- on my trips as well as stills). I've been waiting for a Z500 -- the Z equivalent of the D500. Coming to the conclusion that Nikon was abandoning the DX format and, not wanting to switch brands (I've been a Nikon user since the 90's), I bit the bullet and purchased a Z7ii just a couple of months ago... along with an assortment of full frame lenses. I was then looking to upgrade from the Z50 to a camera that could share lenses with the Z7ii... and, had pretty much settled on the Z6iii -- mostly because, of all the full frame models available, it was the only one with a flip out screen. While scraping together my pennies to make that happen, along comes the Z50ii! While it certainly has some short comings, it now has me rethinking my strategy. Instead of leaving DX behind, I'm now thinking the way to go is to purchase the Z50ii as my main camera while on my back country adventures, backed up with the Z30 and possibly even the Z50 and using my Z7ii for "front country" use, when the size & weight don't matter as much but the MP might, with the Z50ii coming along as the backup and walk-around camera. Heck, the Z50ii, with the AF modes as well as the crop factor, might just become my main wildlife camera, with my Z7ii backing IT up! I just wish the Z50ii was more like a Z equivalent of the D500... but, of course, it would be more expensive if it was.
Thank you for your review of the Z50ii. It's definitely given me food for thought.
Perfect ! Now the Z30 II please... No need for the EVF for vlogging.
EVF is only for old peoples 😄
Rangefinder camera looking is awesome, why not
Wishing they update z30 and add some new features lol 😅
That's exactly my thoughts. We actually exist, the people who don't need EVF.
I am waiting for nikon z5 ii for this christmas season
Same here
Awesome content,, In film and on the first DX I was Only belonging to nikon family
Let’s go! 👍🏽
A very interesting novelty, especially for those who produce video content. I myself have a Z30 frame for this purpose. In addition, Z9 and Z8, with which I then photograph nature. I would like a video of the streaming, because that is also interesting.
3D tracking in video mode on this great little camera but still not on the Z6 iii ? Or did I misread the specs on one of these bodies. Very informative video, thank you.
I want it now
Can you use full frame lenses with this?
If you haven’t sent the camera back yet, could you confirm if it has built in focus-shift for stills photography please.
Sir it’s an amazing camera as I am using it personally but the bird auto focus does not work properly and ibis is also there making it very hard to do bird photography specially when taking videos. A firmware is required immediately for this correction.
Well done Ricci, good video as ever. What would you say the odds are for us Z9 owners to get pixel-shift? I think it is something I would definitely use...
Sigma 18-50 f 2.8 z Mount ?😢
You mentioned that the Nikon Z50II can upload directly to cloud storage services like Google Drive and Dropbox via Nikon Imaging Cloud. I haven’t found any information on whether it can directly transfer files to a Synology NAS. Is there any way to set up an integration between Synology NAS and Nikon Imaging Cloud? Is there’s a way to automatically transfer images from Nikon Imaging Cloud directly to my Synology NAS?
I started with the Z 50 and still use it a lot, now with the 50-250 only. I am buying the Z 50 II with the two lens set. I have the Z 8 , the Z 9, and the Z f. The Z 50 II will be used a LOT mostly with the 50-250. Too bad it doesn't have a sensor shield.
Please fix the HDMI blackout after recording on the z8
Ricci, as a Nikon Z50 owner (great travel camera) with both kit lenses (with VR). Currently Nikon offering of Z mount DX lenses with VR is limited. Lots of third party DX Z mount lenses, but without VR. So the new Z50 II, not having IBIS, is really dispointing. So I will not be upgrading to the new Z50 II; unless Nikon decide to give great trade-in price for my Z50.
Is Optical Low Pass Filter Present or not?
No
And why don't they mention Zf which is also part of the characteristics of Z6III and Z8.
? why would they? it's sort of it's own line where as the z6iii/z8 are more related handling wise to the z50
The bigger body might be an indication of another APSC camera coming up. Which will have IBIS. On the other hand that might solely due to the Expeed 7. Heat dissipation, larger modules, etc...
Custom button?? Totaly ??
Will z30 get a firmware update?
Is the z50ii better then the z5 ?
Yes and no. The Z50II is faster with better AF in a smaller and lighter package. The Z5 is full frame with IBIS. It will depend on your use case.
I have a Z5 which is fantastic but if I didn't I'd definitely by the Z50 11 instead. There are so many extra features and I find a pop up flash to be really useful. I never need IBIS and never print pictures larger than 20x20 though.
@@andrewwillows4333I also find the pop up flash useful, why they don’t have it in all cameras is questionable, you might say it’s due to weather sealing but let’s face it how many times are you out in the rain?
Is it weather sealed?
Yes!
Hmmm... No IBIS - Same sensor as the Z50, not stacked or back lit, but it is only $956.95 dollars. Not bad for a knock around street camera.
It is backside illuminated just like the og Z 50 is but I was really hoping for IBIS too and some more DX primes beyond the 24/1.7 to properly take advantage of that 3-axis stab
Guys buy a Z6 instead of complaining. You'll save $400-$500 and have FX. The Z50ii is directed at new photographers. Honestly it's pretty advanced for an entry level camera.
This thing is better than a D3/D3s, it's on par with a D4/D4s and D5 if you don't need to shoot at the Olympics.
Y'all ask for the world, but then would complain about the price going up to $1500.
*The Z6ii cost the same as the Z50ii so I'm really not sure why the complaining exists. Not to mention the shutter speed is 1/4000s. If you're serious about using a camera for business, buy a Z6 or Z6ii otherwise leave the Z50ii to new shooters and content creators.
Does it have electronic shutter?
haha at this price?!!
Mechanical and electronic.
@@gosman949 Yes it does, the same as the original Z50 had.
Yes but with huge rolling shutter
@ Yes, rolling shutter effect in certain circumstances. Generally speaking, it’s best for the photographer to keep shutter speed less than half the frame rate in shooting fast moving subjects in AF-C.
when will it be launched in india
Please let us load the RED Luts in camera.
did not say about weather sealing... would be nice to be protected again rain and dust
probably same as the z50 which means, a little bit
Super, But we need third party lenses
A very nice update. However, since 4k60 can be had in an additional 1.5 crop due to slow sensor readout, I highly doubt I’d ever use it. For the same reason, it is not worth waiting for the Z30ii if 4k60 is needed. Guess the current DX technology is not up to this task. Apart from that, z50ii seems to be a fantastic camera for the advanced photographer. I have to try it out before deicing this or the z30
3:37... not this one, or this one, oh. It flew away.
Why didnt they put IBIS in it they would have knocked it out of the park if they had of
but why ? We need Lenses!!! Especially the Z 35 1.2 S !!!
You gave us so many cameras , but i fact we need lenses. Yes, we do have some choices, but we really need that 35 mm 1.2 S for Z Cameras!!!
left 1/4000?😁
No IBIS, a very slow sensor readout, only one sd card, pre release capture in jpg only, only 11 fps continuous shooting in raw, and so on. Where is the mirrorless D500? The real mirrorless flagship aps-c camera?
I have been a fan of Nikon until have the Sony a7Riii.
I was expecting more updates in Z50ii.
But it is a very old sensor & without IBIS 👎.
There are nothing improvement in dynamic range.
4Q 2025
No wonder nikons sales have plummeted over the years, they keep making the same mistakes. We want new sensors with new bodies. I'm waiting for z5ii, I hope they at least use the z6ii sensor in that. The sensor is what really let the Z5 down. I've not bought a camera since the d5600 came out simply because nothing is worth while upgrading for my needs/budget.
@@chapstar1985 The d5x00 series really was very good. I still have my d5100 at home and a d5200 at work that I use regularly. I wish I'd bought the d500.
It the entry level z get real
on lenses with f1.2 on a sunny day 1/4000 will be sorely missed, unfortunately
is it that type of camera where you attach giant thousand dollar f1.2 lenses?
Very nice entry camera. So, it falls well within the legacy of D5000 series. It has nothing to do with D500 legacy.
On the other hand, for promotion purposes Nikon used the name D750 instead of D650 they agility have.
for myself the Z 50 II is a notable upgrade to the older version, but to all the wishfull thinkers, you can't expect the upgrade of an entry level camera to be on par with the flagship... I don't need a technical overloadet machine like the Sony's... where the improvements can only be measured in the Lab... but in order to buy it ... the lack of a weather sealing and the missing IBIS is a not to buy criteria for me .. Nikon should more focus to compete with the Panasonic Lumix were you have this features allready in their beginner cameras ,than to compete with Sony. Nikon to me outperformes the most Camera models and I would be willing to pay a 100 bucks more for the IBIS and weather sealing... so I just have to wait a little more to see what is coming next and hoping Nikon is listening...
Price and sensor?.. D.
Lence use dx z5ii
Sir Nikon upcoming date
Nice camera, but we're still waiting for the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S 😞

❌️20mp from 2019 reused.
❌️No Ibis stabilisation.
✅️£849, affordable.
focus stacking
4k video oversampled
Great ergonomics
Modern autofocus
Reasonable battery life
Focus peaking
Build, high quality
I think the battery life is the worst thing about this camera, being only 250 CIPA shots and I think this is the worst I've seen from any manufacturer. Still seems like a good camera despite this.
Battery life was already absolutely terrible in the z50. Nikon made a huge mistake not using a slightly bigger battery
@@romainplagnol882 This battery is same physical size but larger capacity. Hopefully someone can increase the capacity even further.
Nikon need to make a ZF in a regular formfactor with better AF and call it Z5ii.
Lauch highquality hybrid lenses nikon. Sony and Canon are already doing . a good ecosystem is all needed afterall to be in a brand
$ 956,95( B$H)
Price !???
960$ for body only
It's a time & opportunity wasted by Nikon by launching an old wine in new bottle!!!! Instead they could have done well by launching Z80/Z90 bodies which could have been incorporated with 26MP/33MP or 40MP APSc sensor, IBIS,Dual card slots CFExpress & SD, EnEl 15c battery, Provision for battery grip, Exspeed 7 processor with Codecs for improved videos capable of 6K/8k... Nikon has one too many vlogging z bodies. Who says Z30,Z50,Zfc cannot do what Z50II is upgraded to do?? Once again Nikon has failed it's loyalist's customer base who waited for D500 replacement!!!
Nikon
@10:12 cropfactor in a Crop body lol. why do u do this nikon?🙄
Actually Canon R10 has even a bigger crop 1.56x in 4k 60p, and for the a6400, 1.22x crop in 4k 30p. But none of those have 10 bits log/HLG
Where IBIS? 2024. What's happening?
The price is 960$...how can u expect ibis in this range
@@rishavdas7243what is that argument with the price? No one said it has to cost under 1.000,-. But how can someone not expect IBIS in Nikon’s best aps-c camera in 2024? Or a little bit faster sensor readout?
You are not target for Z50 II but people who want to start with photography and price is important for them. Don't forget there is 3/4 people in world who don't have salary 2000€ and more. So 970€ is like their whole payment without deduction of taxes. It's like D3500 or D5600 in mirrorless after inflation and starting wars in world. Not D500 you "needed". Z50 II is even better than Z6 1st. Only one thing I can say is that Nikon should have made what the Nikon Z50 II has now 5 years ago.
@ you‘re right. And I like it that there are a few cameras that are not that expensive. But why the Z50 II and not the Z30 II? A canon EOS R7 cost nearly the same and has IBIS, it can shoot up to 30 fps in raw, it has pre release capture in raw and two sd card slots. I would wish the Z50 II would be a bit more like that. That‘s all. 🤔🙂
@@maximux777 Thank you! That’s exactly the market for this camera and right before Christmas. Here in the states we use to see the D3000 and D5000 series in all of the major retailers like Walmart and Target. But now you only see Canon and some Sony. The everyday consumer who just wants a good “basic” camera will love this camera. In kit form it will come with a VR lens or two for sure. So this camera is not for the pro or prosumer camera buff. It’s for a newbie to photography who wants to take good / better pictures than his iPhone can take. There will be a D500 replacement soon I’m sure. But for now this camera is meant for new and learning photographers.
Should've had IBIS with the price increase as well.
I have a z50 and I was waiting for 2 versions of this camera. I missed image stabilization in it because there are few APS-C lenses and FF lenses often do not have stabilization. I don't want to buy FF because I don't need it, and besides, FF is usually much more expensive. I'm also a bit disappointed and I'm considering selling the z50 and buying a Canon R7. Sorry Nikon...
@@mareknosek795 you World regret it
FUJIFILM X-M5 is way better
If even Ricci, who is not only tech-oriented, seems to be disappointed with the use of this 9 year old sensor, I think we can all be disappointed.
We were expecting a D500 successor so much, with great battery life, fast sensor readout, ibis, maybe double card slot, even at €1500-2000 for people who use the benefit of apsc (in weight or reach).
Instead of what, we get poor battery life (z50 battery was terrible), no ibis, huge rolling shutter..😥
I really really love the brand but it's a cold shower tbh.
who in their right mind would expect an update to the z50 to be anything but a updated z50?? Making a d500 successor would necessitate a new model--z70, z90, whatever. This is closer to the D7500
@@ts7071 nobody told that a new apsc from Nikon had to be the same model than z50. They could have released something else too 🤷🤷
@@romainplagnol882 right but then it was announce z50ii and people are complaining it’s not a z500
@@ts7071True but no one said that Nikon had to use the same terrible battery. That's what I'm the most disapppointed about
Excellent. Shame they did not increase sensor size
No IBIS, no thank you. Nikon has made a huge marketing mistake
No ibis means cheaper and lighter plus if you want to spend your bucks buy lens with ibis or more expensive camera
I'd happily pay more for IBIS but the price is right for the current features.

Old sensor, jello video pans, no ibis, unexceptional video, low light noise.

I have been a fan of Nikon until have the Sony a7Riii.

Nikon need to sell it for under £500, which is the magic figure people will pay for a camera*

Nah, no ibis.
