have had a tornado for about a year it needs batteries about once every two months. it does struggle more with very large cans but with my arthritis it helps. large standard can openers you sometimes have to hold the can up while the can turns and makes my hands hurt so these are great if your disabled.
@@STARDRIVE i tend to play old school turn based rpgs but i do get drawn in to more twitchy games like god of war and limit sessions to about a half an hour before my hands hurt too bad ty for the well wish.
I have used a few of these over the years. My experience is that typically the 4 battery models outlast the 2 battery models. All of them eat batteries if you use them much. Sometimes the jittering and odd noises have to do more with the crimping of the lid than the opener. I finally gave up and bought a Hamilton Beach Smooth Cut countertop A/C model that I’ve had 7 or 8 years. I am much happier! It is much faster and never stalls. I got really tired of the battery models quitting halfway through a can only to find I was out of batteries. This presents a real problem. When the batteries die, the cutter and gear remain engaged to the can and you cannot remove the opener from the can. If the battery door is on the bottom, its removal is blocked by the lid of the can. You must destroy it to get it off. Most of the time, that also bends the top of the can so you can’t completely cut the lid with another opener. The Hamilton Beach is $35 at BB&B before coupons. I think I paid about the same at Walmart years ago. Love your videos and Bailey!
The Instecho - Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looked like it opened cans from the outside, rather than inside? It explains why the juice was dripping outside as well. That sort of can opening has its place, but it's not what is usually intended by the manufacturers or particularly desired by the consumer for that matter.
Thank you for spending $100+ (when you include for batteries) on automatic can openers - plus however much you spent on the manual ones - to bring us these great reviews. Not to mention now much you've spent on other products!!
I wonder how your family dinner goes "What are we eating dad?" "we still have 2 cans of beans" "we ate beans for 2 days straight dad" "well have tuna tomorrow....til sunday"
🤣🤣🤣 Exactly what I was thinking! All those beans! Bailey must have been wandering through the house for the rest of that week thinking, “Geez Dad, again?! And you talk about *my* farts!”

Thanks for the efforts on this review! Me, As long as I got any wrist and grip strenght left, I will use my tried and true manual Kitchen Aid! Had a standard electric one, but it generated lots of metal bits as it was opening the can, and was difficult to take apart to clean, so we tossed it for the manual machine.
@@watcherofwatchers Meh, if this video reaches the 400.000 views, which I doubt it will he will not have recovered the money he spent in those can openers and all those food cans.
The irony of this video is you could have used the manual can opener to open the blister packs. I do it all the time. Love the videos and I love the fact you included Bailey in the background. 🙂
For some reason I could watch James review just about anything. I would never buy 3/4 of the things he reviews but, damn the way he does these reviews is so entertaining
Good review. Wanted to buy one due to a very small kitchen and my electric can opener takes up to much space. Wasn't sure of price or how good they worked so thanks , I will be getting the one you suggested.
I have one of the cheapo $10 ones that I actually got for $5 and it works great. I've had it for a couple of years and still going strong. I think I replaced the batteries once. A bit of arthritis makes a regular twist opener hard to use so I'm very pleased with it.
I injured my right hand last year. For a while I couldn't use a manual can opener at all. Now that it's been over 12 months since I've injured my hand, it's probably about as healed as it'll ever be. And even though I now have the ability to use a manual can opener, it is very difficult and painful. I had really hoped that I would get back 100% use of my hand, but it seems it is not to be. These little hands free battery operated openers would fit the bill for my needs. But I've never used one, so I was happy to see how they work. Thank you
Please show a comparison of how difficult it is to remove the lid from the opener when the batteries die half way through opening a can. I've bought 2 openers, and both are a nightmare when the batteries die, because the access door is located on the bottom. Thank you you doing these reviews and posting the videos. 💜
I had a Black & Decker Gizmo that worked flawless. It was expensive, but was rechargeable and had a charging station that doubled as holder to mount on the wall or under a cabinet where you could use it for small cans without having to take it out of the charger.
Thank you for the 5 hands-free can openers compared. I am curious how long the blades last before they become dull? Thank you for the comparison. It was informative and entertaining
I've bought the electric Hamilton Beach can opener, the tall one for large cans. Approximately, once a year I've had to buy a new one and I've been buying it for many years now. The part that holds the magnet the part that is attached to the cutting mechanism looks like it is made of metal but it's not, it's plastic, keeps breaking, presumably from the weight of the can. Not being really aware of any better opener that will accommodate tall cans, I have accepted the cost each year, as the cost of convenience. I looked into the warranty since it has a sticker saying it has a 5 year warranty. It's not worth paying to send it to the company (which is mandatory under the warranty) and to pay for them to send it back if repaired or to pay to have them send a new one (you pay for shipping fees both ways according to the trends of the warranty). These battery operated ones seem convenient but I don't want to keep paying for batteries. And I really don't want to spend the extra money for chargeable batteries. What is really like to find is a can opener that actually has metal parts. If anyone reads this and knows of one, let me know please? Thanks! Good video demonstration!
THANK YOU!! I have been wanting a hands-free can opener for months now but didn't know which to buy. NOW I KNOW, thanks to you!! You are a life saver, and a money saver!! Arthritis is no fun. I have cans in my pantry with food that I cannot eat cause I can no longer use my can openers.
I'm on my second can opener so far. I don't remember what the first one was but it simply stopped cutting through after a few uses. I have a $20 Farberware now and sometimes needs 2 tries to open the can.
I had a Farberware also and didn’t like it. Took several tries to open can if it even worked. I usually ended up prying the can open with a knife and plyers. Lol.
I have used and purchase for friends the Farberare hands free can opener. I had mine for 5 years, very happy until this year! It was running low and we changed the battier but the can opener was caught on a medal can. The lip wouldn't release. So base you next episode on 1. easy batter change 2. how long does it last and 3. once can open how shape is the lid. I watched you video and still couldn't decide which one was best for us. Didn't like that the one we had last 6 years, and its a Walmart product not sold everywhere. There are some good reviews on You Tube. thanks for doing this video.
I actually have an updated version of the Kitchen Mama, which is a bit smaller and lacks the automatic stop feature. I settled on that one at a hefty $35 based on reviews. It's probably been a year or more at this point of opening 4-12 cans lf cat food a day and it's saved my dang hands! That price tag is hefty, but I can't say it doesn't live up to it in endurance and reliability. I would kill for an automatic stop feature, though, which is why I eagerly looked up this video when I saw his brief one year recap. Best advice I can give you is this: buy a 4 pack of rechargeable AA batteries and a charger. When it seems like the can opener is starting to go slower/more weakly, swap out the batteries. It can really sneak up on you and otherwise you'll go through a ton of batteries.
I love your videos and I've learned to watch them before shopping. :) I have an instrecho slightly different than the one you showed and it works great however once you start it, it doesn't like to stop.
I took care of a person for 10 years that had muscular dystrophy and throughout the years I watched him get progressively worse and I never just did things, unless I was asked because it's beyond important to let people do what they can until they can't and I got him one of those toucan can openers and it turned out to be money waisted. I never could find one that he was able to use before he just couldn't (surprising how much we take for granted and I felt I took that simple task from him plus he couldn't open a can if he was alone) but a lot of people put down these products and say they're lazy and useless but they don't realize on these "useless" gadgets could be the fine line on someone's independents
I bought mine new in package from the thrift store. I really love it but it doesn’t open tiny tomato paste cans. There is a size limit to them so you still need a regular one too. I tend to have the worst luck with regular hand held can openers; they tend to break or misalign too quickly no mater brand or price. These handfree kind can jam with the paper label or “crash” and stop when not aligned but they’re fairly easy to reset. I definitely recommend having one.
I've been using one touch as seen on TV for a few years now. Love it, it just struggles on super small cans, which I wish you would have tried. Check out tomato paste cans for like $1 or less, about 1.5 inch round... That should sepparate them.
I have and use the one touch can opener for the past ten years and has always opened every can , magnet always worked. Only uses 2aa batteries highly recommend it. Only wish you'd have included it in this review , but as always James another great review ✌️
the smooth edge part is that the direct sides are blunted as it cuts below the lip, it is still gonna be sharp but it wont cut ya when you handle it normally. I use the tucan all the time
Thanks for the video. I liked the fact that all the can opener were tested on the same cans. Since you took the time I think you could have placed an image with all the cans, can openers and times per can to compare. Also it would have been great to test durability, perhaps using them for a month or so, to see how long the batteries lasted and if the machine still worked well.
This has been helpful. We had a black and decker gizmo for years. I loved that thing. A gizmo is 84.00 online. I have been looking for a really good cheaper alternative.
Battery operated openers come in handy if there is a power outage such as storm/Hurricane/travel type thing. Unfortunate for me I have the slowest one, tornado F4. I was glad to know his observation was as mine.
I purchased an original 'One Touch' can opener back around 2007 and it worked great for over 10 years. I paid $5 for it and it was the best can opener I've ever owned.
Would never ever use a smooth edge can opener. Tried a brand name Hamilton Beach and seemed to be working really well... till one night I was opening tuna cans and caught a glimpse of what I thought was just thin pieces of the paper hanging around the lip of the cans... but closer inspection showed it was actually hair thin strands of metal. Threw the cans out and took the opener back and got a standard hand operated opener.
Really glad there’s this review because I’ve always had issues with can openers and today sliced all 4 fingers on my right hand so it’s time to invest in a hands free one
Good video. You should do a review on tools which are intended to make plastic clamshell style packaging easier to open. I have some shears which have a unique off-set cutting design which allows them to cut along the edges of the plastic packaging. I’m sure there must be other styles of openers. Thanks for your reviews; I found your channel not too long ago and I have really liked your reviews. You have a great on-screen likeability.
I have the number one pick ,it works well.its a nice tool for opening cans in the kitchen when you are multi tasking.the handi can is a winner, hands down.
My mother has a hands free Can Opener, (I think she has the Handy Can Opener). When me and my husband lived with my mother for a while, I used it one time and my husband (the comedian that he is at times) backed away and made a cross with his fingers. Of course I laughed at him, but he was amazed at how well it worked. He just decided to be comedic while watching it open a can.
Bought a Toucan. Put it away , when I wanted it next a battery was dead. Second dead battery it went into the garbage. 20 dollars wasted. Hand operated now.
Thanks James for saving us the pain of having to choose between these openers. It would be interesting to get an update down the road if you continue using them.
How did those times compare to the time it would take to open those same cans with the best of the manual can openers you previously reviewed? I used to own countertop electric can openers many years ago, but long since switched to manual can openers with comfy handles (love the Oxo Good Grips!). I suppose if my hand strength were to decrease substantially, a hands-free can opener would make sense for me, but it doesn't yet.
I'm curious what kind of casserole you made from all those jalapenos, canned tuna, green beans, and I'm guessing the last one was some kind of bean dip?
Great review as always, sir! Looks like something I may need to get for my aunt, she loves to cook but always has problems with timing stuff out and ironically cutting open cans, maybe this can help.
been watching you for 3-4 years, and the finger cut was the funniest thing I have seen on this channel since.... keep up the fun edits, i really appreciate the effort.
U got me laughing on boom now eat your tuna 8:54 hahahaha so funny so so funny. Oh and that part 12:27 epic fail not so smooth lol oh boy better use the balloon test next time James just saying ouch!! Love the review of the can openers great job.
LOVE watching your reviews...and yup Handy Cam, had one for a long time...works every time...but the magnet is weak...And for $10/xx...what is to not like
Glad you finally realized that you do NOT have to hold down the start button. All you have to do is hit it one time and it will work. Watching you drove me nutz lol
I've 7 different can openers since January. Expensive hand ones, cheap basic hand ones, electronic standing ones, old school ones all have broken. Either they break easily or can't handle the big cans. Maybe one of these will finally work for me.
I have had a OneTouch, which looks and acts just like the Intecho, for at least five years. I have had to change the batteries only once. I only use it a couple times a week. My only concern is how to keep it clean. My cat loves the sound because he thinks it is tuna every time.
They all leave micro daggers, I have been waiting for you to get a sticking, happens to me no matter what brand, It's the nature of smooth edge openers. You should include battery count in the contest, 4 AA's have a longer duty cycle.
I have had a few of these started with the kitchen mama problem is when your cooking a big meal have to open lot of cans they just don't last. The batteries get weak and some cans they don't open have to go around again. In the end I just bought a Black and Decker space saver plugs in the wall much faster no batteries to deal with. Cutting the outside of the can is a nice feature but can's are not designed for that so some it can't open. Also want to drain the water off holding the lid doesn't work so well when you cut the outside. The only advantage is putting the lid back on storing it but I find just don't do that often with cans I open.
Sincerely can never get these to work for me. Too much noise, too much time, too much hassle, too many batteries, never dependable. I have a Good Cook manual can opener from Target and it’s excellent! Smooth edge, economical, totally safe and works every time! Still a fun video though and helpful for people who need automatic can openers. Great work!
"All these can openers have a smooth..." 😂😂😂 Sorry I laughed when you cut yourself.
It's ok. I keep laughing at me cutting myself, too! The timing was flawless.

Battery operated openers come in handy if there is a power outage such as storm/Hurricane/travel type thing. Unfortunate for me I have the slowest one, tornado F4. I was glad to know his observation was as mine.
You need to include a criteria that I always use: Name coolness factor.
If that were the case, then Tornado F4 has to be the pick for that category.
@@Freakinreviews i don't know... the Toucan and the Yes You Can are pretty good puns.
Never used these but great review ,in case I ever do.
Good Cook Safe Smooth Edge at Target. $9.95. Manual but Totally smooth edge, safe, economical, dependable! Easy to clean. My absolute favorite!
@@SarahLizDoan thank you but I live in England thanks anyway
Great timing. I've been thinking about getting one of these. I struggle with tuna cans, or any short can really.
I've got the Toucan opener for several yrs. and i love it.
Great news.......I looked it up. You can Freeze all that food even the tuna.😆😆 or put the tuna out for the neighborhood cats🐈🐈🐈🐱🐱🐈🐺
@Supermonkey 1964 😆😆
Great review!! Never owned any of these can openers!!
Bought a Toucan.
Put it away , when I wanted it next a battery was dead.
Second dead battery it went into the garbage.
20 dollars wasted.
Hand operated now.
Mine couldn't get through a single can without help, even with fresh batteries.
The Hamilton Beach Open Station includes a cutter for those plastic packages, can opener, twist bottle opener, bottle opener, and jar opener.
Thanks James for saving us the pain of having to choose between these openers. It would be interesting to get an update down the road if you continue using them.
Your reviews are the best and saved me thousands...your expense but much appreciated sir, keep up the good work!!
Amen to OXO good grips. Best kitchen products ever.
I have the tornado, works great and haven't had to change the battery's in two years.
What you do for us is simply amazing.
Thanks for the review. I wonder how long they will last. Update us in 6 months🙂
Hooray! The value product wins!
did you try any of the pull tab cans? people with arthritis can't open and wondering if the electric openers can be used on the type of can
The true bad news is that you have to eat 20 cans of food! LOL Have a fantastic day James.
His Videos are soooooo well done. You can watch it on 1.25 speed and not miss a thing.
All these cans have a smooth.... I’m dead laughing. I freakin’ love this channel!
we had two of these but none in the review, first one was One Touch brand and second was Black and Decker's Gizmo
Great work!
Thank you I have rheumatoid arthritis and this video came in handy.
