It's a shame you didn't bring up the Free Abrams pack that they eventually made as a sort of weird joke apology which included the XM-1, 13337 GE, the @realFreeAbrams title, and a special XM-1 decal, and ~9 days of premium time all for 60 USD. Superb deal really. For those unaware, the joke in there is that 13k GE is about 60 USD, so for the value you were effectively getting the XM-1 for free.

I remember when they planned to implement the crew healing mechanic, you would be able to carry medpacks or something and heal crew anywhere, this was later changed into the crew replenish mechanic on cap that we have today, although I think its possible to replenish crew whenever in Arcade. Also for a time it was possible to control the tank with only one crew member alive, you could either drive or fire, but not both at once, so you had to move the crew member from driver to gunner and vice versa. It was not very long lived.
Honestly, they should bring back the last man standing mechanic for vehicles with 2 crew members. Crew replenishment is useless in RB with only 2 crew.
I would also add: ,,Fix the game in 1.91'' controversy and ,,stock APDSFS shells controversy'', I think these two are also very very important controversies in history of War Thunder.

Surprised you didn’t talk about Gaijin’s harsh nerf to SL and RP gains. Makes playing top tier basically unreasonable. I once got six kills in a row, didn’t die once, capped a point, won the match, had prem account, and still only got 5.3K EXP. Mind you, this was 10.3. Plenty of times I’ve ran out of premium time and had to completely not play WarThunder, since almost no matter what, I’d usually come out with just a tiny meager amount of earnings, or I’d go into the red with SL and lose more than I won
they've been playing musical chairs with the built in multipliers with all of the vehicles, its getting rediculous. For those of you reading that don't know how much modules cost in RP at top tier in warthunder: Modules can be around 33,000 RP. So despite having a good match, Jakob was awarded a measly amount. Vehicles in warthunder (especially at top tier) vastly UNDERPERFORM unless you have all of the modules researched.

I like Gaijin so much more now that I know that. Plus it was actually pretty cool how Anton tried to make things right with that Russian CC. Stream was flooded with request for discounts for vehicles from incoming patch, streamers gave them 3% off, but crowd get just angrier and begin insulting streamers, so one of them lost it. That was fun, since "scourges" on russian is "bichi". So the tank was named by community Bi-Chi.

I remember well the Free FPE and Parts, I watched the very same live stream. Then gaijin disabled comments on their channels, got rid of likes/dislike numbers, an got BVV's brother to make up some apology on their channel that soon got ripped by the community. To say it was a dumpster fire is a understatement. At least they did change it in the end, plus we got a "free" XM-1 Abram's. I agree with you on the fact that flag size shouldn't be limited so we can have some goofy looking tanks back but TK definitely should stay off, there is simply no need for it to be on and you're a lot more prone to accidentally TKing someone when you're in close tank combat than when you're flying far apart from eachother in the air. Agreed TKing needs to stay off. I've had people push my tank off cliffs to get me out of the sniping spot they want. They're the people who wouldn't care and just blast you if it's on. Not to mention tanks occasionally when spawning. Shit ton of friendly fire.
Imagine how frustrating it would be playing a nation like Britain that has primarily solid shot, or high tier with sabot, and killing a teammate because you went straight through the enemy's vehicle

The worst is in the past they allow team kill from tank vs tank in the early battle especially for mofo who repeately click left click at the spawn and blasted anyone spawn in front of him, Im not too much angry when they mistakenly team kill me with bomb while attacking enemy near me but getting killed without reason at start of the battles is the most mad part
I remember back in 2015 or 2016, there was a general chat feature where anybody in your region's server could chat. At one point in the NA server, there was a multiple hour long error that made it impossible to join a match. People started to spam general chat to the point at which Gaijin started banning multiple users, at first temporarily, but they quickly turned to permanent bans. In the aftermath, hundreds of NA players were banned, some just for simply posting a message. If memory serves, Gaijin did eventually allow you to try and repeal said ban after this blew up in their face. I'm pretty sure this is a big part of why general chat was removed.
Not that it was something that was really missed since it was a toxic shitfest run by the most petulant, tyrannical moderation team I'd ever seen, and that's saying something.
the thing about recon vehicles helping out with repairs and FPE is that the recon vehicle has to HAVE THEM UNLOCKED FIRST. A stock vehicle cannot assist with repairs and if it doesnt have FPE it cannot help with extinguishing.
I remember there was another controversy this one was with the H8K2/H8K3 bombers. Back when the japanese air force tree was still kinda new and sparse they made a dev blog about the H8K2 coming into the game. The original devblog did not make reference to it being added has a tech tree plane or premium. The fact of it being a premium was edited to the devblog sometime later .This caused backlash from the community because the players saw that has gaijin robbing the sparse Japanese tree at the time of another tech tree plane. The finally capitulated by adding the H8K3 has the premium and the H8K2 has a tech tree one, however the H8K2 was added at rank 1 with Researh cost of 40.000 RP and it stayed like that for years only recently it was lowered to 7.900RP now being at a reasonable cost.

I remember when the chally controversy happened. The guy leaked cutout of the turret to prove mantlet armor should be thicker by comparing it to truinnon length. Not only did he take wrong measurements for truinnon length making his argument faulty he also wrote "declassified" himself on the document. Absolutely laughable.
There is more myth than truth to that at this point. For all that's currently known, that document was indeed declassified whether in error or not, was presented in a heavily redacted form, and there have been no criminal proceedings against the guy. If the documents had been manipulated there absolutely would have been. All information claiming this to have been classified information came straight from Gaijin themselves (including MoD's supposed comment), in what is so far a most succesful series of PR campaigns involving supposedly "classified" bottom-of-the-barrel decades old technical docs.
Its not his job to decide the fate of parts and FPE, but at the same time his behaviour on that stream was unacceptable, He listed things people are not asking for as an excuse to get angry
Because of how incredibly shady Gaijin is, I've basically stopped playing War Thunder in real matches. The game is already in a very horrible state to the point I just can't be bothered anymore.
Are the community servers different from the official ones? Like that you have some tanks already unlocked? Because I wanted to play warthunder with my friends but the grind put me off since I don't need a game as a second job
One small controversy you might have forgotten was GJN sending copyright strikes to anyone posting bugs of WT before it was released form beta. It got to a point where anton made a threat or ultimatum where he gave 2 harsh choices but I can't recall what they were. Another controversy was anton saying some really harsh words on reddit but I doubt that counts as anything
Gaijin has a long track record of blunder and mess ups. Years ago the community suspected that there was something fishy with certain soviet fighter planes damage models, surviving head on collisions with little to no damage while the opposite plane got wrecked. Gaijin absolutely denied that anything was wrong until several dude posted videos where they hit planes, trees and airfield control towers with their planes, surviving it, Plane spinning wildly through the air, but ultimately unscathed. You might still find youtube videos about it. Of course many bans were handed out for pointing this out. It took several weeks until Gaijin acknowledged something was wrong and fixed it. Only one example of many many blunders on Gaijins side which they absolutely refused to acknowledge in the beginning only to have to cave in later.
My personal favour of "you have no proof of it" was Russian APC shells having double normalization, negating plenty of slope effect of armor. This was confirmed when piercing simulation was added to game. For example Traitor-34 glacis was 45mm + 15mm at 60 degree, making it 120mm LOS. After normalization, all capped shells needed 107mm of penetration to pierce it, except Soviet shells than needed only 79mm. Similarly, 150mm LOS armor of Jumbo was worth 102mm vs Soviet shells.
Charging 500GE for a fucking flag is pretty scummy. If they were really concerned about 'nationalism' they could just remove them. Instead, they monotized the problem.
IIRC, the flags being made paid for and the decal size were actually responses to two different issues. The flags are as you said, but the decal size was in response to people putting up large scale dark decals on their tanks to make them appear dead in RB and SIM.
Now even to premium account...you can make kills, doing quite good, but if u lose the match u get ~10k sl+repair cost if u died (italian sidam 25 cost 12k to repair)...while in planes ab i get 60k sl in one match even if i lose
Warthunder is typical for its controversies, as its developed by a company that never decided if its interested in politics, or in money, and if the game is an arcade or a simulation, resulting in a failure in all those categories.
It's a shame that team killing was removed from ground battles because Russians and Ukrainians continued team killing each other because there are certainly players who deserve a friendly shell right up the arse

Between spawn rushers/pushers, absolute morons continuously rushing to their death instead of playing defensively, even bigger morrons continuously thining out the defense by trying to get a 3rd cap that isnt necessary to win a match. Or german teams that still dont underdtand they have no buiseness beeing on the offensive in battle modes... seriously stop trying to push...

Because the non prenium really is not much more than a fl11 with wheels, and its actually kinda harder to use than its tankette version, specially when peeking arround corners. But well i both kinda aggree and disagree. Some vehicles definitely have an edge over older tanks but they're not really omnipotent. R3s arnt that big of a threat really. I may have been killed by one or two occasionally. And the other day i killed 3 regular EBRs with my 88flak train. If you know what you're doing most tanks arnt really that big of an issue. The main issues are top mounted MGs magically firing without anyone manning them. It would be fairer if the commander or loader actually have to stick out the hatch and man the MGs to fire them. The real thing that has no place beeing in the game, are killcams/hit markers. If you ask me. Nothing more infuriating than revenge bombs. Individual sound settings too. You shouldnt be able to lower your own engine or shots sounds just so you can hear the opponent's engine better.
I think Guyjob could go one step further with the parts/FPE malarkey: just make them a single module, or allow players to research both simultaneously (say you earn 7000 RP in a match with that one vehicle...I know, that is outrageous, but just pretend; the 7000 RP would effectively be doubled to 14000, with 7k going to each module). If they went with the first option (the parts/FPE as one module concept), they could add a second module for an additional FPE charge. I know it sucks getting knocked out by getting set on fire 3x (not that I would ever do that to another player, lol). Some tanks have self sealing and/or self-extinguishing fuel storage. The "help with firefighting" was a nice idea, but who wants to give up one of their FPE uses to give to another player who might still immediately get killed right after helping them put out the fire? WT is theoretically a team-based game, but we all know it is a match of mostly random lone wolves running around trying to get the most kills/caps. Perhaps Guyjob should increase the rewards for team-based actions, like active scouting and assists. I do wish scouting assists counted as an actual assist in the end-of-match summary (though they do count as assists while in the match, oddly enough). Sometimes I get a battle pass daily task of getting x number of assists...it is sort of silly to run around shooting out engines, a single crewmember, radiators, and fuel tanks and leave the potentially crippled enemy to repair in hopes someone on your team eventually finds them to finish them off.
Just a few days ago my stock M163 got set on fire in our spawn and a friendly Wiesel miraculously both noticed and stopped to help me extinguish AND repair. First time I can remember that happening, usually people are too far away to help you extinguish in time.

Oh man, there is so much more you forgot, just from the top of my head: - 'Fix the game 1.91' hashtag - When ships were added, it was stated only small vessels would be added because the larger ships would not be entertaining enough to play, to large dismay of the community - The DMCA takedown of the Inside Gaming Daily youtube video where it was reported people noted a WT steam pack on sale during a steam sale, but allegedly the price had been raised shortly before the sale and then lowered to the standard pricing (or something along those lines), which is illegal with both steam and by US law. Gajin responded with a DMCA takedown of the video within the day, seemingly in an attempt to silence the news channel. Later the CEO said this was 'a mistake' and the company intended to 'claim' the video instead of taking it down, which either way would be a breach of RUclips's claiming system at that moment. - Upon introduction the B-29 got a reduced bomb load compared to what it had historically for 'balancing' reasons, but later the TU-4 was added with its full bombload, larger than the B-29 historically, and was added at the same br with vastly superior weapons, making air RB unplayable at its BR, as it was even impossible for jets with airspawns to intercept one, let alone 4, Tu-4 and you would get pilot sniped or set on fire from 2km out, but usually they would already bomb out all the bases before it was even possible to intercept them. This went on for several weeks, one of results is that the 23mm has been nerfed to death even to this day. - The introduction of ATGM's, only Russia got a tank with ATGM's (IT-1) in the beginning, giving russian teams a mayor edge. There were also various issues with ATGM's jumping all over the screen with server issues (or even invisible) with its introduction, making it hard to spot and dodge them. - During the 2016 "Thunder League" eSports tournament, you could buy a dog tag which would allow you to unlock unique skins made/inspired by the competing e-sport teams. It was noted several times that the skins would be unlockable at any time the player liked, even if that meant it would be 2 years, but after the sale this was suddenly walked back on and people only got 2 or 3 weeks to unlock all the skins, which was an issue for most as many of the skins were for high tier vehicles from various nations with very specific time intensive tasks, and something people paid for. - PhlyDaily made a video once in which he exposed a cheater, and despite him stating he was showing this as proof that they exist (as WT kept insisting there were none or a negligent percentage of cheaters). After taking down the video with a DMCA claim (again, technically not allowed according to the YT claiming system back then) one of the CEO's made a forum post in which they accused him of advertising to people to cheat. Then he gave the playerbase two unrelated options to 'remedy the issue'; have markers added to RB (something which would affect all of us), or to receive the blessing of the playerbase for the company to have the ability to sue and silence youtubers for exposing cheats or other material they deemed damaging to the game (basically giving them the power to silence people and something which would only affect youtubers). This got such a backlash that both options were dropped and later the anti-cheat was added because of this, additionally blaming phlydaily for the amount of cheaters in the game because of this one video that was only online for a few hours. - In 2014, WT had an event for its anniversary where after X amount of wins or something, you would get 1 random vehicle out of 5. 4 of these were either rare and/or usable T2-3 vehicles (LaGG-3-23, DB-7, XF5F, TB-3) and the 5th was the He-51 Floatplane. Naturally most wanted one of the other 4 and not a plane worse than the reserve He-51. After a while it became clear that roughly 60-80% of the players had received the he-51, which pissed off a large part of the community for having received a near useless reserve aircraft which at that point wasn't rare at all. - Sparks have always been an issue, but back in 2013 or 2014 it reached such problematic proportions people became incredibly vocal about it which several forum points and gajin having to rework some code to make the problem less pronounced. - Nuke torpedoes, after the Submarine april fools, torpedoes became incredibly powerful, able to be dropped on land and take out several tanks. Not exactly a controversy but still something which was naturally exploited by the playerbase. Additionally, I also have a buddy that has been banned from the game for 'cheating', even though it was somebody else who logged into his account on the friend's computer, who had some sort of software installed for a completely different game.
Gaijin was kinda right with ships though. Every new class of larger ships adds more people quit, with Battleships being why WTs largest naval YTer quits WT as they think Battleships should be removed and only adds to the problems navy has with this.

(Scharnhorst and the Sevastopol-class) meanwhile all the other navies get 1920s at the latest (cmon man, stop giving the two countries nobody considers as good (fuck you Wehraboos, your precious Kriegsmarine was dogshit. Get over yourselves) and fucking the countries that had actual decent firepower! (America, obviously Britain, hell even Japan!))

Good luck in simulator, because there it's basically a FFA match that has a 50% chance of rewarding or punishing you for killing a Sherman that could either be a American one or one of the MANY Lend-Lease Nation variants that, for some reason, are better than the original American variant. This... all because of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.
7:00 GE price does actually depend on your currencies dollar though. If you're paying in rubles or Yuan you can expect to pay ~30% as much as if you're using USD.
Some other controversial moments: Changing the length of the US squadron battle time slot from 6 hours to either 3 or 4 hours while leaving the EU time slot at 6 hours. Led to the establishment of the War Thunder Player’s Council (not the same players council that exists to this day, it was led by officers and commanders of the 30 or so best squadrons. You have Gaijin sponsoring GOF(Group of Friends), a Russian squadron that pretty openly cheating. After about 6 months of reports and backlash, Gaijin ended their sponsorship, disbanded the squadron, and banned over 30 players for use of third party modifications. There was the time that Gaijin demanded all of their staff team, moderator and up, had 30 days to reside in Russia if they didn’t already, which as a result led to many of the good Admins and Game Masters to lose their jobs. After one of the major updates, a bug was introduced where crashing your bomber into the ground awarded thousands of RP and hundreds of thousands of silver lions, Gaijin acknowledged the issue, and claimed that those that heavily abused it would have accounts reverted to the moment right before the update and receive a 14 day game ban, the problem was many of those individuals that received a 14 day game ban never had their accounts reverted, and the RP gain was so high, you could complete entire air trees in an hour as long as their was enough players queuing to get a game. That’s just the few that immediately come to mind.
it would have been nice to talk about the stock syndrome video controversy too, where gaijin released a video talking about the stock syndrome, giving some awful recommendations and finishing the video basically saying "if you dont like it - pay the golden eagles". after the backlash they ended up removing the video.
Back before the decal changes I used to paint my whole right wing red in reference to Solo wing pixy, a pilot in ace combat who did the same. Thing is, if you already painted a vehicle like that it doesn't change, so even today I still got several German planes with a red wing, making my decals extremely rare
You forgot the incident when Popular War Thunder player and RUclipsr known as Phly Daily made a video exposing a player for using cheats, and Gaijin forced him to take the video down, as to not draw attention to it.

My man you came into this history lesson too soon, there were so many weird things that went on before tanks were added, albiet the game wasn't as big back then. The bomber spam issue, the arado ramming protest, the D-13 having a huge amount of weight added to it after it went on sale. I distinctly remember there being rumors that gaijin was taken to court over the D-13 modification or at least, the modification of a premium someone had purchased that was then nerfed. Hell how about the time they had to completely change how matchmaker worked after they gave japan the T-2!
there was another big controversy where gaijin basically tried to rally the community to copyright claim/take down youtube videos etc that showed war thunder cheats/hacks. it was a while ago so some of the details could be wrong but the mighty jingles stopped playing war thunder because of it
If i remember correctly another reason for the 500 GE price on flags was that players often made relatively elaborate camouflage using african countries flag Also a common thing when tanks first came out was to paint your tank using decals, either entirely white and get a winter camo for free or entirely black to fool people into thinking you were a dead tank (destroyed tanks didn't have open hatches to distinguish them like they do now) Also a couple minor controversies 1) the backlash when they announced the Naval part with just PT boats and gunboats 2) the IS - 6 having a 200 mm mantlet and being impenetrable from the front because "we added a 0 by mistake", there were daily complains about the IS6 being op (it used to be 6.7 i think), then one dataminer messing with the model finds out the mantlet that covers the entire turret front is 200 mm thick, Gaijin explanation was something like "it was supposed to be 20 but one of the developers added an extra zero by mistake." 3) kind of a minor one, when they added the brits ground forces one of the preorder tank was the Black Prince, Gaijin, in their unlimited wisdom, added said tank in the 3.7 to 4.7 and 4.7 to 5.7 Sim battles lineup, where this tank was basically immune from the front (and sides against the 75mm panzers) and, had two respawns because preorder tanks used to have two respawns until the rest of the tech tree was added. 4) that Winter event where the reward was the VK 45 01. first tasks were easy, the third one was grindy but doable, the fourth was like "get first place and win 10 times" in three days, during the christmas holidays. Of course, most players weren't happy about it, and those who went with the event anyway were more than willing to teamkill (it was still on back then) their way to the first place in the leaderboard
It was a minor stuff but when they released a German premium La-5 it was an absolute UFO. That plane was insane. And so were the sales figures. And then the sekrit dokumints were found and everything went back to normal. Normal. Hah.
Sadly, alconafter's original channel was deleted due to Zvezda (Russian federal channel) being unhappy with his videos where he was criticizing Russian military vehicles (using footage from Zvezda channel). And even though he removed all the videos he's been told to remove, he did not get his channel back. Years of history are gone. Today he has 2 channels, "alconafter" where he mainly plays War Thunder, and "История Оружия" (or "History of Weapons"), about military and historical stuff, as well as politics and other things happening in the world.

I remember when they planned to implement the crew healing mechanic, you would be able to carry medpacks or something and heal crew anywhere, this was later changed into the crew replenish mechanic on cap that we have today, although I think its possible to replenish crew whenever in Arcade.
Also for a time it was possible to control the tank with only one crew member alive, you could either drive or fire, but not both at once, so you had to move the crew member from driver to gunner and vice versa. It was not very long lived.

I once got six kills in a row, didn’t die once, capped a point, won the match, had prem account, and still only got 5.3K EXP. Mind you, this was 10.3. Plenty of times I’ve ran out of premium time and had to completely not play WarThunder, since almost no matter what, I’d usually come out with just a tiny meager amount of earnings, or I’d go into the red with SL and lose more than I won
they've been playing musical chairs with the built in multipliers with all of the vehicles, its getting rediculous. For those of you reading that don't know how much modules cost in RP at top tier in warthunder: Modules can be around 33,000 RP. So despite having a good match, Jakob was awarded a measly amount. Vehicles in warthunder (especially at top tier) vastly UNDERPERFORM unless you have all of the modules researched.

I remember well the Free FPE and Parts, I watched the very same live stream. Then gaijin disabled comments on their channels, got rid of likes/dislike numbers, an got BVV's brother to make up some apology on their channel that soon got ripped by the community. I agree with you on the fact that flag size shouldn't be limited so we can have some goofy looking tanks back but TK definitely should stay off, there is simply no need for it to be on and you're a lot more prone to accidentally TKing someone when you're in close tank combat than when you're flying far apart from eachother in the air.

The worst is in the past they allow team kill from tank vs tank in the early battle especially for mofo who repeately click left click at the spawn and blasted anyone spawn in front of him, Im not too much angry when they mistakenly team kill me with bomb while attacking enemy near me but getting killed without reason at start of the battles is the most mad part
I remember back in 2015 or 2016, there was a general chat feature where anybody in your region's server could chat. At one point in the NA server, there was a multiple hour long error that made it impossible to join a match. People started to spam general chat to the point at which Gaijin started banning multiple users, at first temporarily, but they quickly turned to permanent bans. In the aftermath, hundreds of NA players were banned, some just for simply posting a message. If memory serves, Gaijin did eventually allow you to try and repeal said ban after this blew up in their face. I'm pretty sure this is a big part of why general chat was removed.
Not that it was something that was really missed since it was a toxic shitfest run by the most petulant, tyrannical moderation team I'd ever seen, and that's saying something.

the thing about recon vehicles helping out with repairs and FPE is that the recon vehicle has to HAVE THEM UNLOCKED FIRST. A stock vehicle cannot assist with repairs and if it doesnt have FPE it cannot help with extinguishing.
And i think he has to sacrifice one of his own fire extinguisher to stop the other vehicle's fire? It does make sense, still annoying though

I remember there was another controversy this one was with the H8K2/H8K3 bombers.
Back when the japanese air force tree was still kinda new and sparse they made a dev blog about the H8K2 coming into the game. The original devblog did not make reference to it being added has a tech tree plane or premium.
The fact of it being a premium was edited to the devblog sometime later .This caused backlash from the community because the players saw that has gaijin robbing the sparse Japanese tree at the time of another tech tree plane. The finally capitulated by adding the H8K3 has the premium and the H8K2 has a tech tree one, however the H8K2 was added at rank 1 with Researh cost of 40.000 RP and it stayed like that for years only recently it was lowered to 7.900RP now being at a reasonable cost.

I remember when the chally controversy happened. The guy leaked cutout of the turret to prove mantlet armor should be thicker by comparing it to truinnon length. Not only did he take wrong measurements for truinnon length making his argument faulty he also wrote "declassified" himself on the document. Absolutely laughable.
There is more myth than truth to that at this point. For all that's currently known, that document was indeed declassified whether in error or not, was presented in a heavily redacted form, and there have been no criminal proceedings against the guy. If the documents had been manipulated there absolutely would have been. All information claiming this to have been classified information came straight from Gaijin themselves (including MoD's supposed comment), in what is so far a most succesful series of PR campaigns involving supposedly "classified" bottom-of-the-barrel decades old technical docs.

One small controversy you might have forgotten was GJN sending copyright strikes to anyone posting bugs of WT before it was released form beta.
It got to a point where anton made a threat or ultimatum where he gave 2 harsh choices but I can't recall what they were.

Gaijin has a long track record of blunder and mess ups. Years ago the community suspected that there was something fishy with certain soviet fighter planes damage models, surviving head on collisions with little to no damage while the opposite plane got wrecked. Gaijin absolutely denied that anything was wrong until several dude posted videos where they hit planes, trees and airfield control towers with their planes, surviving it, Plane spinning wildly through the air, but ultimately unscathed. You might still find youtube videos about it. Of course many bans were handed out for pointing this out. It took several weeks until Gaijin acknowledged something was wrong and fixed it. Only one example of many many blunders on Gaijins side which they absolutely refused to acknowledge in the beginning only to have to cave in later.
My personal favour of "you have no proof of it" was Russian APC shells having double normalization, negating plenty of slope effect of armor. This was confirmed when piercing simulation was added to game. For example Traitor-34 glacis was 45mm + 15mm at 60 degree, making it 120mm LOS. After normalization, all capped shells needed 107mm of penetration to pierce it, except Soviet shells than needed only 79mm. Similarly, 150mm LOS armor of Jumbo was worth 102mm vs Soviet shells.

IIRC, the flags being made paid for and the decal size were actually responses to two different issues. The flags are as you said, but the decal size was in response to people putting up large scale dark decals on their tanks to make them appear dead in RB and SIM.

@@JM64 the prenium EBR or other one? Because the non prenium really is not much more than a fl11 with wheels, and its actually kinda harder to use than its tankette version, specially when peeking arround corners.
But well i both kinda aggree and disagree. Some vehicles definitely have an edge over older tanks but they're not really omnipotent. R3s arnt that big of a threat really. I may have been killed by one or two occasionally. And the other day i killed 3 regular EBRs with my 88flak train.
If you know what you're doing most tanks arnt really that big of an issue. The main issues are top mounted MGs magically firing without anyone manning them. It would be fairer if the commander or loader actually have to stick out the hatch and man the MGs to fire them.
The real thing that has no place beeing in the game, are killcams/hit markers. If you ask me. Nothing more infuriating than revenge bombs.
Individual sound settings too. You shouldnt be able to lower your own engine or shots sounds just so you can hear the opponent's engine better.

I think Guyjob could go one step further with the parts/FPE malarkey: just make them a single module, or allow players to research both simultaneously (say you earn 7000 RP in a match with that one vehicle...I know, that is outrageous, but just pretend; the 7000 RP would effectively be doubled to 14000, with 7k going to each module). If they went with the first option (the parts/FPE as one module concept), they could add a second module for an additional FPE charge. I know it sucks getting knocked out by getting set on fire 3x (not that I would ever do that to another player, lol). Some tanks have self sealing and/or self-extinguishing fuel storage. The "help with firefighting" was a nice idea, but who wants to give up one of their FPE uses to give to another player who might still immediately get killed right after helping them put out the fire? WT is theoretically a team-based game, but we all know it is a match of mostly random lone wolves running around trying to get the most kills/caps. Perhaps Guyjob should increase the rewards for team-based actions, like active scouting and assists. I do wish scouting assists counted as an actual assist in the end-of-match summary (though they do count as assists while in the match, oddly enough). Sometimes I get a battle pass daily task of getting x number of assists...it is sort of silly to run around shooting out engines, a single crewmember, radiators, and fuel tanks and leave the potentially crippled enemy to repair in hopes someone on your team eventually finds them to finish them off.
Just a few days ago my stock M163 got set on fire in our spawn and a friendly Wiesel miraculously both noticed and stopped to help me extinguish AND repair. First time I can remember that happening, usually people are too far away to help you extinguish in time.

Oh man, there is so much more you forgot, just from the top of my head:
- 'Fix the game 1.91' hashtag
- When ships were added, it was stated only small vessels would be added because the larger ships would not be entertaining enough to play, to large dismay of the community
- The DMCA takedown of the Inside Gaming Daily youtube video where it was reported people noted a WT steam pack on sale during a steam sale,
but allegedly the price had been raised shortly before the sale and then lowered to the standard pricing (or something along those lines), which is illegal with both steam and by US law. Gajin responded with a DMCA takedown of the video within the day, seemingly in an attempt to silence the news channel. Later the CEO said this was 'a mistake' and the company intended to 'claim' the video instead of taking it down, which either way would be a breach of RUclips's claiming system at that moment.
- Upon introduction the B-29 got a reduced bomb load compared to what it had historically for 'balancing' reasons,
but later the TU-4 was added with its full bombload, larger than the B-29 historically, and was added at the same br with vastly superior weapons, making air RB unplayable at its BR, as it was even impossible for jets with airspawns to intercept one, let alone 4, Tu-4 and you would get pilot sniped or set on fire from 2km out, but usually they would already bomb out all the bases before it was even possible to intercept them. This went on for several weeks, one of results is that the 23mm has been nerfed to death even to this day.
- The introduction of ATGM's, only Russia got a tank with ATGM's (IT-1) in the beginning, giving russian teams a mayor edge. There were also various issues with ATGM's jumping all over the screen with server issues (or even invisible) with its introduction, making it hard to spot and dodge them.
- During the 2016 "Thunder League" eSports tournament, you could buy a dog tag which would allow you to unlock unique skins made/inspired by the competing e-sport teams. It was noted several times that the skins would be unlockable at any time the player liked, even if that meant it would be 2 years, but after the sale this was suddenly walked back on and people only got 2 or 3 weeks to unlock all the skins, which was an issue for most as many of the skins were for high tier vehicles from various nations with very specific time intensive tasks, and something people paid for.
- PhlyDaily made a video once in which he exposed a cheater, and despite him stating he was showing this as proof that they exist (as WT kept insisting there were none or a negligent percentage of cheaters). After taking down the video with a DMCA claim (again, technically not allowed according to the YT claiming system back then) one of the CEO's made a forum post in which they accused him of advertising to people to cheat.
Then he gave the playerbase two unrelated options to 'remedy the issue'; have markers added to RB (something which would affect all of us), or to receive the blessing of the playerbase for the company to have the ability to sue and silence youtubers for exposing cheats or other material they deemed damaging to the game (basically giving them the power to silence people and something which would only affect youtubers). This got such a backlash that both options were dropped and later the anti-cheat was added because of this, additionally blaming phlydaily for the amount of cheaters in the game because of this one video that was only online for a few hours.
- In 2014, WT had an event for its anniversary where after X amount of wins or something, you would get 1 random vehicle out of 5. 4 of these were either rare and/or usable T2-3 vehicles (LaGG-3-23, DB-7, XF5F, TB-3) and the 5th was the He-51 Floatplane. Naturally most wanted one of the other 4 and not a plane worse than the reserve He-51. After a while it became clear that roughly 60-80% of the players had received the he-51, which pissed off a large part of the community for having received a near useless reserve aircraft which at that point wasn't rare at all.
- Sparks have always been an issue, but back in 2013 or 2014 it reached such problematic proportions people became incredibly vocal about it which several forum points and gajin having to rework some code to make the problem less pronounced.
- Nuke torpedoes, after the Submarine april fools, torpedoes became incredibly powerful, able to be dropped on land and take out several tanks. Not exactly a controversy but still something which was naturally exploited by the playerbase.
Additionally, I also have a buddy that has been banned from the game for 'cheating', even though it was somebody else who logged into his account on the friend's computer, who had some sort of software installed for a completely different game.
Gaijin was kinda right with ships though.
Every new class of larger ships adds more people quit, with Battleships being why WTs largest naval YTer quits WT as they think Battleships should be removed and only adds to the problems navy has with this.

(Scharnhorst and the Sevastopol-class) meanwhile all the other navies get 1920s at the latest (cmon man, stop giving the two countries nobody considers as good (fuck you Wehraboos, your precious Kriegsmarine was dogshit. Get over yourselves) and fucking the countries that had actual decent firepower! (America, obviously Britain, hell even Japan!))

GE price does actually depend on your currencies dollar though. If you're paying in rubles or Yuan you can expect to pay ~30% as much as if you're using USD.
they got rid of the bulk GE discounts so now its expensive and plain stupid trying to obtain the premium currency here in the US.
Some other controversial moments:
Changing the length of the US squadron battle time slot from 6 hours to either 3 or 4 hours while leaving the EU time slot at 6 hours. Led to the establishment of the War Thunder Player’s Council (not the same players council that exists to this day, it was led by officers and commanders of the 30 or so best squadrons.
You have Gaijin sponsoring GOF(Group of Friends), a Russian squadron that pretty openly cheating. After about 6 months of reports and backlash, Gaijin ended their sponsorship, disbanded the squadron, and banned over 30 players for use of third party modifications.
There was the time that Gaijin demanded all of their staff team, moderator and up, had 30 days to reside in Russia if they didn’t already, which as a result led to many of the good Admins and Game Masters to lose their jobs.
After one of the major updates, a bug was introduced where crashing your bomber into the ground awarded thousands of RP and hundreds of thousands of silver lions, Gaijin acknowledged the issue, and claimed that those that heavily abused it would have accounts reverted to the moment right before the update and receive a 14 day game ban, the problem was many of those individuals that received a 14 day game ban never had their accounts reverted, and the RP gain was so high, you could complete entire air trees in an hour as long as their was enough players queuing to get a game.
That’s just the few that immediately come to mind.

it would have been nice to talk about the stock syndrome video controversy too, where gaijin released a video talking about the stock syndrome, giving some awful recommendations and finishing the video basically saying "if you dont like it - pay the golden eagles". after the backlash they ended up removing the video.
The sad part is that you can still get teamkilled in air arcade by someone knocking you into a cliff

Back before the decal changes I used to paint my whole right wing red in reference to Solo wing pixy, a pilot in ace combat who did the same.
Thing is, if you already painted a vehicle like that it doesn't change, so even today I still got several German planes with a red wing, making my decals extremely rare
I had 3 LA-7s hovering above our spawn. Super annoying. Need spawn protection for planes.
Also, when your driver on the ground is red, your tank becomes sluggish. You have a significant delay on steering commands.
You forgot the incident when Popular War Thunder player and RUclipsr known as Phly Daily made a video exposing a player for using cheats, and Gaijin forced him to take the video down, as to not draw attention to it.

My man you came into this history lesson too soon, there were so many weird things that went on before tanks were added, albiet the game wasn't as big back then.
The bomber spam issue, the arado ramming protest, the D-13 having a huge amount of weight added to it after it went on sale.
I distinctly remember there being rumors that gaijin was taken to court over the D-13 modification or at least, the modification of a premium someone had purchased that was then nerfed.
Hell how about the time they had to completely change how matchmaker worked after they gave japan the T-2!

there was another big controversy where gaijin basically tried to rally the community to copyright claim/take down youtube videos etc that showed war thunder cheats/hacks. it was a while ago so some of the details could be wrong but the mighty jingles stopped playing war thunder because of it
If they took down videos of the hacks then it's fine, but videos showing other players cheating for evidence is not.

If i remember correctly another reason for the 500 GE price on flags was that players often made relatively elaborate camouflage using african countries flag
Also a common thing when tanks first came out was to paint your tank using decals, either entirely white and get a winter camo for free or entirely black to fool people into thinking you were a dead tank (destroyed tanks didn't have open hatches to distinguish them like they do now)
Also a couple minor controversies
1) the backlash when they announced the Naval part with just PT boats and gunboats
2) the IS - 6 having a 200 mm mantlet and being impenetrable from the front because "we added a 0 by mistake", there were daily complains about the IS6 being op (it used to be 6.7 i think), then one dataminer messing with the model finds out the mantlet that covers the entire turret front is 200 mm thick, Gaijin explanation was something like "it was supposed to be 20 but one of the developers added an extra zero by mistake."
3) kind of a minor one, when they added the brits ground forces one of the preorder tank was the Black Prince, Gaijin, in their unlimited wisdom, added said tank in the 3.7 to 4.7 and 4.7 to 5.7 Sim battles lineup, where this tank was basically immune from the front (and sides against the 75mm panzers) and, had two respawns because preorder tanks used to have two respawns until the rest of the tech tree was added.
4) that Winter event where the reward was the VK 45 01. first tasks were easy, the third one was grindy but doable, the fourth was like "get first place and win 10 times" in three days, during the christmas holidays. Of course, most players weren't happy about it, and those who went with the event anyway were more than willing to teamkill (it was still on back then) their way to the first place in the leaderboard

Sadly, alconafter's original channel was deleted due to Zvezda (Russian federal channel) being unhappy with his videos where he was criticizing Russian military vehicles (using footage from Zvezda channel). And even though he removed all the videos he's been told to remove, he did not get his channel back. Years of history are gone.
Today he has 2 channels, "alconafter" where he mainly plays War Thunder, and "История Оружия" (or "History of Weapons"), about military and historical stuff, as well as politics and other things happening in the world.
Nostalgia. Ahhhh
