You can build on anything, but reflex is mostly genetic. It's your positioning for balance after a reflex is triggered that can help your counters & counters throw off the rhythm of incoming offense. The biggest problem boxers have today is lack of flexibility do to too much muscle, especially around the neck. A simple tilt or turn of your neck, not your body can avoid impact or just reduce it decreasing the chances of concussion. For the mid section it's about muscle contraction which is why medicine ball work is so important.
