If you commute from outside the city you're screwed if you can't work remotely if there's a strike. Driving into the downtown will be a nightmare with the Gardiner and a lot of the streets under construction.

That might not be so bad in a smaller, more suburban town, but we're talking about a major city with 5 or 6 million people. Surely there has been or will be a time when you need to get somewhere you can't get to by walking or riding a bike. Imagine how long it'll take you if there's a ton more traffic.

In the not-too-distant future, students studying urban and traffic planning will look on Toronto as a prime example of what not to do.
After all, sometimes the best one can do is be a bad example. Toronto has that title sewed up.

@@joelsterling1445 This coming strike, should it occur, is likely to affect me more than any labour dispute, for quite some time, has. Getting to whatever medical appointments I am likely to, during the strike, need to get to will no doubt be a shorter walk, if I book the appointment for this Saturday or later, than if I book one for this Friday. Friday will be the last day of that clinic at its west-end Toronto location while Saturday will be its 1st at a location much closer to home. Getting to a massage appointment that for next week Wednesday I've scheduled likely will be harder should whatever TTC strike that may occur last that long. Perhaps before the 3rd Monday of June there will be a tentative deal so I can get to a dental appointment that for the Tuesday of that week more easily than if there's no TTC, bar Wheel-Trans, service. So be it if I have to change plans to walk very far out of the neighbourhood in which I live should whatever TTC strike that may occur.

I haven’t used the subway nor very few buses since being treated very rudely 3 months ago by a TTC ticket booth mannequin, and by Security, whom I was trying to help locate a guy who had been screaming death threats at people in the station.
He had snuck back upstairs and was standing a few metres from us, staring at us. They refused to look where I pointed. All they did was keep asking why I called them, no matter how many times they were told that it was the TTC guy who called for help, not me. He just stood there like a dummy and never once opened his mouth.
While Security was harassing me and ignoring the crazy guy, he snuck back down to the platform.
Security didn’t notice but soon trooped down down there themselves.
I then asked Mr silent booth attendant why he hadn’t backed me up and pointed out the culprit to them.
He shouted at me: “I did! Go on about your business, Madam!” I was shocked.
I was going to be late for the film I was going to so I headed down the elevator towards the platform. There was the crazy guy coming back up the stairs! When he saw me he started yelling that he was going to kill me.
Not only is transit full of crazy dangerous people now, but you can’t rely on staff to protect you, and on top of that they are rude and hostile to you as if you were the criminal.
Horrible experience. Added to the constant shutdowns and rerouting, the TTC is a total nightmare. I feel so sorry for people who have to use it every day.
