Great video Bryce, the $3 Aquaclip for mounting a bottle on your shoulder strap, almost any alcohol stove, and the standard Luci light are also great bargains for the well under $40 gear list.

A car wash in my area provides drying towels that can go thru the laundry multiple times. I ask for extras every time I clean my vehicle.
Also I have found o-rings to fix my brs stove at a local hardware (fyi: don't open the valve past its limit)

$20 CNOC bag for use with the Sawyer Squeeze instead of the bags that come with it. I take the $20 Flextail Gear tiny pump to inflate my sleeping pad.

Here's a quick easy on the metric system. 25 mm is ROUGHLY an inch. 100 mm is 4". So 250 mm is 10". And if you flip back and forth between cm and mm, just drop or add a zero. 250mm=25cm=10".

    Thanks for the good suggestions.
I agree on the Mini. I have it and the Squeeze. It works fine for me because I gravity-filter as I hike with a collapsing water bag strapped upside down on my shoulder strap and with a line running from the filter up to my shoulder strap near my head so I can drink as I hike without putting down my trekking poles. I just turn my head and there is the line. I attached a Camelbak nozzle at the end of the line, and a quick-release line joiner at the filter end so I can quickly detach the bottle from the filter when I refill the bag.
I disagree on your choices for a trowel. The Cargo is supreme because it doesn't cut into the palm of your hand, and it has a saw edge by which to cut roots.
I like that Dog Bone suggestion.
    Thanks for your entertaining videos.

Very helpful info on the Sawyer water filters. Thank you!

  • @bihlygoat

I also like Sawyer filters the best. My favorite is the Micro (somehow bigger than the Mini?) - it has almost the same flow rate as the standard Squeeze but is quite a bit smaller and weighs less (2.2oz on my scale, with flip-top, vs 2.5oz for the Squeeze and 1.4oz for the Mini).
Also, for drying off my tent I really like a Swedish Cloth. Only downside is they get stiff when dry, so may not be the best as a towel.

Hey Bryce how many D's are in "water filder" lol. J/k bro, I'm from Maryland and people make fun of me all the time because I say "wooder" instead of "water", or "warsh" instead of "wash". Great video dude. I'm definitely grabbin 1 of those dogbones.

You got me to carry a saw like that. Great idea for winter.

    • @pedroclaro7822
      @pedroclaro7822 Год назад

A small multitool saw does fine for me to cook with my wood stove in summer but during winter yeah a campfire with some decent logs is a godsend. Although I switched my folding saw for a manual chainsaw. Chews through wood, it's lighter and smaller.

Just make sure you align the I-beam stakes to face your tent so the force aligns with the beam. If not, it'll bend like anything else, if not easier. Haven't tested or seen any strength tests but pound for pound, with the same material, I'd think that a three-ridge stake would be strongest in general usage with the whole gamut of experienced users. It would be an interesting experiment.
I use a sawyer squeeze with a couple of smart water bottles. If you want to empty it, you just throw an empty or fairly empty bottle on the outlet with a cheap F-F adapter and blow the water through. I backflush it after every use. No reason to carry the syringe thing. Also, order a few washers in case you lose or break one. They're like 50c a piece or so and they work on the mini.

I honestly can't complain about the Sawyer mini. I've lived in places with just as little water coming out of the tap at times, and I'm not new to having to boil it. Comparatively, a Sawyer mini out on the trail is a godsend. If I were in a race or camping with a group of people that I had to feed and water, I'd get something else.

Can we not all agree now, the BRS is a name brand stove!? Lol. They must be outselling the rest. The only other stoves worth considering imho are four pot support styles like some Soto setups or the old Giga Power.

    1. Those I-Beams look interesting. Im in WV so the hooks work pretty good. Dutch makes 2 sizes in Ti and Jve never had them bend on me. I've had Al y-hooks bend, though.
    2. Ti cup. I went with a 500 ml Timberbrother cup. I think I eat a lot less at a meal than many folks, though. I can't eat more than about half a commercial freeze dried meal, so I dehy my own. My meals are only about 100 grams each and only take about 8 ounces of water to rehy. I carry a GSI infinity mug for the rehy because I hate eating out of a baggy.
    3. While I currently use an Ursack for my food, I've thought about getting a hanging system to pare down weight. Have you ever tried to hang a bag using a pair of loop aliens?

Most of the advice was good but tent stakes, metal cook pot and garden shovel I can get those things for a lot less and I think I can find them all at Lowe's or some discount store titanium isn't necessary, for your other video I found out the hard way that alcohol and hiking don't mix twisted my ankle really bad it's ok now but had to stay off it for a week

I carry the Sawyer Mini with the flushing syringe, because the syringe can generate higher *air* pressure & speed than most human lungs. It's just in shorter bursts.
Yeah ... why blow with your own bellows, when the clean out tool does the same job, wet or dry?

BeFree, 750 ml Toaks and my hubby’s Silky saw for the win!🥸. Still haven’t done a bear bag, I’ve been carrying the bear bin…heavy, but I like not having to stress about the perfect tree. I do still put my homemade jerky and coffee creamer in an Loksak Opsak bag, I found those two items have a strong odor. I ripped one and duck taped it, use it for my garbage…still seems to chill the odor.

Shawnee State Forest; Caesar's Creek; Zaleski; Lake Vesuvius; Hocking Hills; Mohican; Twin Valley Metropark; Hamilton County Metroparks, particularly toward the west of the County.
Just in Kentucky, you have Red River Gorge, Daniel Boone National Forest, Cumberland Gap.
In Indiana, Hoosier National Forest, Brookville Lake.
In PA, Laurel Highlands, Oil Creek, Minister Creek, Allegheny National Forest.
