- SOUTHAMPTON FC - THE MATT LE TISSIER STORY - PART TWO
The remarkable career of Matt Le Tissier is told in a Sky Sports documentary about the life of the Southampton legend.
With footage of all his greatest goals and old cine-film of the star growing up, The Matt Le Tissier Story also answers conclusively why he opted to stay at Southampton rather than move to a bigger club. - Спорт
Glen Hoddle not picking Le Tissier for the 98 World Cup was the worst decision of his managerial career.
When I was a boy, living in Australia all the other kids were following the big teams, man u, Liverpool etc, I happened to watch this guy playing for some team I never heard of, that guy was Matt let tissier at Southampton and I have been following the saints ever since. Matt let tissier was my favourite player all these years and now is legend. He also seems like a good and humble man. Thanks for the joy you gave us.
Nice message pal
A fine tribute to a truly great player, whose feet never left the ground and for whom the term 'laid back' was invented. A genius and one of the greatest ever English players.
What a player!
So Proud of this Man for his Honesty, Vulnerability and for standing in his Truth !!!
As an Evertonian always loved watching Matt and all the geniuses and mavericks. He may have been the best, we had Kevin Sheedy at Everton, absolute genius and returned mega goals for a midfielder. What most people maybe miss is Matt was playing in a lower tier club so his achievements were so much more difficult. Thanks Matt for giving all football fans your genius.
Madness how this man was treated
I'm a Blackburn fan and all Ewood applauded his ridiculously good goal against us he was top top class and will always be fondly remembered up here because of it a premier league legend and sadly players like him are few and far between nowadays a maverick the game needs more of them
A world class player and one of the all time greats
Absolute legend! one of a kind!✌💚
Le Tissier was an intelligent player. That made him stand out, but also generated criticism of his work rate.
Matt Le Tissier shone brightly as one of the Premier League's biggest stars in the 1990s. It's puzzling how, even after 25 years, he remains relatively unsung, given his truly exceptional skills on the field.
One of the greats of Europe in the 90s he would have got in any team, Bergkamp, Baggio, Romario, Stoijkovic , Hagi , old Matt Le tissier was one of this group , he may not have been as famous down to Southampton not playing in Europe or not playing in an international tournament but he had the ability definitely up there with Laudrup .....
Absolutely amazing player. Brings me to tears every time I watch Matt le tessier
You would always have him in your fantasy team, 10pts for walking on the pitch.
your the greatest le God, I once saw you and ur wife shopping in tescos in Bursledon when you was at ur best and I was too nervous to ask you for your autograph. wish I had of done.
Is it any wonder why us saints fans worshiped him and called him le god. An absolute legend, met him a few times as well, great down to earth guy as well.
Better than the best British footballer, a real hero for human rights and democracy!
The 98 WC should have witnessed him still though! Gutted Hoddle didn't pick this obvious talented English player.👎. Awe, what a phenomenal footballer regardless.👍
Yes Hoddle thought he was a genius in midfield but then came LeGod. Hoddle didn't like that the muppet!
Alan Ball came to our Firms Xmas Party in Bremen. He was a friend of our boss. He was supposed to give an after dinner talk but the booking for the restaurant got screwed up so we ended up in a bar drinking until stupid o clock with Alan doing the rounds of all the tables. He was brilliant. Came again the following year with Jimmy Case in tow! The following year a group of the senior guys in our office went to Southampton to attend a testimonial event at the football ground with Alan Ball, Jimmy Case and Mick Channon. That was the weekend he died. The guys came back in shock.
Le Tissier & Gascoigne 2 Genius players that could have made the difference in 1998
I had £100 on England to win Euro 96 & Le Tissier to score 5 goals in total. Then Venables didn't pick him. They'd have won with Matt's contribution & I'd have been £2.8k better off.
Saints had some side then. Bes; Watson; Ships ;Benny and Monk. I was privileged to see them in the cup they were class.
Similar to Greaves I think in that his natural brilliance was such that he felt no obligation to work as hard as others. Wonderful player.
What a player!!
Genius
You were 10 times Glen Hoddle…
What a player he was. Imagine if they took him to World Cup 90 knowing Robson would be k.o'd early doors
Went to see him a few weeks back, excellent evening, he knows whats going on in thes sorry country thats led by criminals
Like many genius's he gets the lazy tag, these type of players work rate goes on in their heads. Fantastic player.
Ridiculous talent
He scored .ore spectacular goal after another as many as Bergkamp and henry put together le tis in a average team the other 2 ina team of stars
Hoddle was and is a knob ...
Nah mate he's a pric
Watching him is like watching Ronaldinho
Le Tissier c'est un nom de famille très français
he has a french ancestor very far back, but most of his blood is british
Always baffled me the cronyism back then, I was only a teenager but even I could see he should have played way more often for England
Glenn Hoddle was a great player...lousy England manager
He left out 2 genius players Matt and Gazza! I think he may have been jealous!
A great player a great man and no I don’t support Southampton FC
Who was the greatest? Matt Le Tissier. This decision was made by a bus load of supporters travelling home from the Manchester derby.
The black stain on English football the way this guy was treated by England managers.
Great player, complete nob head.
Why is he a knob head?
