Le tissier should have been England's superstar for ten years. A team of hard working great players to support a man who could create amazing goals for fun. Goal a game and all of them would have been amazing.

Curl had nothing to do with the first one. Le Tiss saw he was already moving to his left so he whipped it the other way.

The England team management of that era valued workrate over skill; which is why we never won anything, because we didn't pick our best players. Le Tiss should have won at least 50 England caps. Check out his video, "Unbelievable" - it certainly is!

It’s such a different atmosphere over here. He’d be mobbed in the UK but here he was just left alone.

Matt Le Tissier is the perfect example of why England haven't won anything. There are plenty of talented English footballers but they just don't get picked and played often enough or in the right way. If they do get picked, we'll play the same shitty formation and bland style because we're so afraid of conceding a goal. No doubt instead we'll play shit like Welbeck, Cleverly and Johnson in this upcoming WC. Or looking further back, look at players like Stuart Downing & Kieran Dyer. How these players ever got an England cap is beyond me... Pathetic!

Andy Copland yeah, I always see how the England bosses pick is laid out in a points system and each game they’ve started for there club they get 1 point and every goal they’ve score, major save/tackle they did gets them 5. But then of course if you play for any team in the ‘top 6’ you automatically get 100 points for free! 🤣

Le Tissier and Merson here echoes the difference in mentality between the Germans and the English have towards penalties. When the German walks up to the spot they think of becoming the hero and the glory that comes with scoring. The Englishman thinks about the reproductions of missing and who they will let down as a concequence, in turn letting failure enter their mind as a result

In there sums up England. Merson went to the World Cup in 98 and a player like Le Tissier who scored a hat trick in an England B game just before squad selection was left out. We leave the creative players out every time... not to mention having Le Tissier in the team if we got to penalties in the World Cup would have been a great help.

I know Le God isn't taking penalties in the World Cup Final or anything like that, but look how effortless his takes are. It's all in the approach - start left foot in front of right, take four steps, plant the left, open or close your hips, swing the right, hit the corner. Simple but beautifully executed technique. (Also helps Rob Green was leaning the wrong way on his second penalty).

Merson had no placement in his first 3 pens and no disguise and literally he got the shots nowhere near the corner on 2 shots and the chip panaka way over. Matt le tissier pens were all near unstoppable, confident run up and placement. Merson technique for last pen he scored on was matt le tissier style confident run up powerful in the corner shot with a disguise.

What is not so funny is that Merson won nearly 3 times more caps than Merson who also went to the World Cup in 1998 whilst LeTissier was sat at home watching us lose in a penalty shootout to Argentina. If you were a manager watching these two play football how can you not see that LeTissier is in an utterly different class.
Once again everything wrong with English football is on display in the short clip.

    Also notice how neutral
Matt's body is, he's literally up-rite when he strikes the ball. Gives little away to the keeper. Most keepers guess and move before the strike, Matt just slips the ball opposite, or if it's tight, squeezes the ball wider..
Based on what Matt said earlier, he clarified that all his penalties were on target, not one wide of the mark. That's some accuracy under pressure..

Two very fine players indeed. It always makes me a little sad when I see Paul Merson; had he taken greater care of himself he would have a had a longer and more successful career.

Le Tissiere - God of a penalty! Merson - who is this?

  • @Idoru2011

Interesting listening to Rob Green and the advice that is given. Basically from top down, managers and coaches think a shoot out is a lottery. Le Tiss doesn't neither to foriegn keepers. They far more regularly stay on their feet and watch the ball. In a soot out you have 2nd to 5th choise pen takers taking pens. at leat one of those is going to be too close to the keeper. If you dive out of the way you have no chance.

"every manager says don't change your mind." possibly good advice to a crap player in a shootout, but class players can do it. 2 best penalty takers i ever saw, le tiss and fowler, both did it. Fowler was asked "how are you so successful penalties?" answer- "i wait till the keeper moves, and put it the other way." it's a simple game really ain't it...

Think how bad the english talent is, that matt le tissier would be England's star player now, but back in mid 90s couldn't get in the squad. Let alone team.

    • @SirWitchKing
      @SirWitchKing 7 лет назад +3

Le tiss was a legend, he was seen as a very lazy footballer and old fashioned managers didn't want a footballer who looked like he walked about the pitch. The problem was he was probably one of the greatest strikers of the balls in the 90s. I would have had him in my England squad.

Matt Le tissue was a fantastic player and the best penalty taker lve seen, England totally wasted his career on plonkers like David Batty who would kick his own grandmother if she had a ball!

Ironically Merse kept LeTiss out of the 98 England Team!
Not that Merse didn't do a bad job, he outpsyched Carlos Roa and scored against him in the penalty shootout. Roa was so wound up that he was yellow carded!
