Regardless of burton and taylor's marital hype these two were wonderful together and did not get the true recognition they deserved as storytellers. I must say she was not one of my favorite storytellers but as i now watch her films i began to see a genuineness in her portrayal of the characters she become on screen. He of course was just brilliant as a storyteller. Yes he never won an oscar but his body of work lives on far greater than any oscar. I just saw them in the movie The Sandpiper and it really had an effect on me as there was a sadness that their marriage did not last as i believe she truly loved him. He died far too young and is buried in a local old cemetary in Switzerland not far from his home. Elizabeth could not even pay her respects at his gravesite because the local paparazzi would not leave her alone. As he betrayed his working class principles by leaving his wife for a glamourous woman. I dont think he ended up liking Elizabeth Taylor he ended up despising her. He was the love of her life and I dont think she was.
I don't think he was amongst the greats of film acting, but probably was a remarkable stage actor. Other than Virginia Wolf I think his film acting range was not comparable to a huge list of others.
