Personally I think Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy battle system will always be the series best action based combat. It’s a perfect balance of real time action, and role playing strategy. There’s honestly no other way they can top this in my opinion. It’s quite literally perfect, like I can’t even think about any improvements that could be made for Part 3.
Personally I don’t see anything wrong with XVII adopting this, but if they decide to go the full action route, then please give us party members.

Honestly at this point I don't even care what they do. I just want them to continue to develop a game with its fully realized potential, story, writing and cutting edge graphics. They've been on a relatively good streak for a while now. But we need them to hold up to the same standard as they were in the 90's and early 2000's. We're so close, yet so far away 😢

@@martinaguiluz4063 I absolutely love FF16, but I also recognize the flaws. FF16 does a lot right but also trips over itself with lackluster side quests design.
I completely understand that the side quests are there to build backstory, but the way they are designed feels outdated by today's standards. I hate to draw comparisons but The Witcher 3's side quests felt more like main quests in terms of writing and execution. That was 9 years ago. I feel like if FF16 cut back on like 25% of the side quests and put more effort into the quality of the side quests, it'd be so much better. It would not only improve the pacing of the story and missions, but it would also make them be more fleshed out and more fulfilling.
Notice how all of the main story cutscenes are done so exceptionally well? I just wish that the side quests were held to even a fraction of those standards instead of the MMOesque back and forth, talking heads that we got with the recycled emotes that were used in FF14.
Outside of that, I absolutely love and adore everything else about that game. I just wish they trimmed it all down a bit and put the money into developing higher quality side content to balance everything out. Because the mainline quests, cutscenes and scenarios were all amazing IMO.

@@martinaguiluz4063 16 is a game that was saved but also destroyed by square. It was fine... the story was on par with GOT season 8, the twist is obvious to anyone with a basic understanding of mythology. the game on the hardest difficulty is mash square to win (and sometimes triangle). There might as well of not been healing items with how much you needed them. There was no reason to level, change equipment or even do side quests, the voice acting was really good.

    • @lostvayne9146
      @lostvayne9146 2 дня назад

@@REVOLVERE unfortunately you cannot compare to witcher because that is like me expecting level design at the quality of fromsoftware in game companies where that has never been proven. Side quests and level design isn't something that SE is known for unfortunately. FF7 remake/rebirth faces the same pitfalls and if you were to tell me which had the better side quests. Well FF16 made me cry. FF remake/rebirth made me laugh. Both fit the vibe of each game but both face the same SE design philosophies.
SE are mostly known for their fantasy stories and graphics. Turn based system mechanics is one thing and they are going into mechanical action combat but when people think of FF, the thing that sticks in the mind is the story/graphics.
CDPR have the gold standard for quest design with cyberpunk and witcher and they are outliers. The reason why the quests are good there also has to do with necessitating dialogue trees and investigative mechanics. eg. witcher sense, scan. This gives you the ability to role play, unravel the story in that quest through interaction and making dialogue choices.
final fantasy games aren't role playing games in that regard. Your following a linear story and you do not get to make choices in the dialogue. There is no multiple endings. The bulk of the rpg portion if you can really call it "rpg" comes from turn based system mechanics, whereas with 16, its pure mechanical depth like a fighting game. Low skill floor, high skill ceiling.
As for the main story cutscenes. There is a reason why they are main story cutscenes. It takes a lot of money and time to create those. Particularly time which is very finite. Same thing with ff14. Why do they not have every line voiced in that game? time and money. I assure you everyone would want everything to have tier 1 cutscenes if it was possible.
No RPG has tier 1 cutscenes like those everywhere. Witcher nor cyberpunk have this. In cyberpunk, they use a higher resolution model only for specific scenes like the romance sex scenes. In a perfect world, every quest would have high quality cutscenes like you see in ff16's main story.

If you want to hear Soken's take on modern music and every other genre you can imagine, play FFXIV. Not only that, but it's in my opinion the best gaming story of all time. Specifically Shadowbringers & Endwalker. It's a grind to get there, but once you do. Oh boy.. Words cannot do it justice. Mind you, Heavensward already is awesome & its an earlier expansion. what i want from FF17 hmm maybe a cyberpunk setting but a high fantasy like Frieren is welcome too, combat would definitely be action with obviously rpg elements to it and other playable characters like 7R which was badly missed in 16, open world like zelda botw, a female lead is in due at this point, since it would be an open world adventure i want it to be a lengthy game cuz i ain’t spending $70 on FF game that is only 20hrs long, SE has no shortage when it comes to music so im not worried about that but i do want Monaca the team that handled NieR’s music to be in FF17. i agree with what u said about characters of 7R vs 16 but while i highly prefer 7Rs characters more than 16 is definitely not cuz of bias. imo 7R character writing and the VAs gave more life and personality to FF7s characters a lot of fans were worried that they wouldn’t be able to capture Cloud’s character right but they did way better in 7R. now compared to FF16 which highly focused on Clive which was stupid imo it felt other characters lacking especially Jill, Benedikta was super short lived and had high potential as a villain in the same level as 7Rs turks, everyone loved Cid but i guess 16 devs didnt love him the same way too, Dion is another wasted character i woulda expect they would build more from him especially with what happened to his kingdom but yea this was still Clive’s game and Joshua is just meh tbh i would’ve wanted the suspicions of him being alive to be farther in the story rather than just blatantly showing to everyone hey he’s alive. FF16s female side characters had more character development than Jill and Benedikta which was quite a shame. So yeah i want FF17s characters to be the same as FF7R and FF15 with lots more banter, camaraderie and dialogues with each other while exploring the open world.

Are they really going to announce FF17 this early? I remember there was a lengthy period of time between FF15 and FF16. Announcing FF17 at this point would make FF16 have less of an impact in the franchise.

13:10 I 100% agree. I realized the rpg was pretty bad in 16, so I did not engage in it at all. I just saw it as an action game, I skipped all side quests, did not care about crafting weapons etc. Just went hard on the story, combat and lore. And it is honestly one of my fav games of all time. Just flows way better if you go faster in that game. I mean stop and look at the scenery, but don`t go completionist rpg mode.
And 100% agree with what you said about FF7 rebirth aswell. Which is also one of my fav games.
I mean I agree with this entire video.

"Just flows way better if you go faster in that game."
No kiddin'. I like FFXVI but dear lord almighty but it's gameplay is made for a DMC story, which are short so that you can play will all the toys relatively quickly. But since 16 is (supposed to be) also a RPG which has barely a framework of a RPG system and a long story, it makes everything go on much slower pace with little variety in-between.
And don't get me started on the side-quests, it makes the pacing even worse.

    • @mangomariel
      @mangomariel День назад

@@ryujin8754 I think the main story was paced well. Like I said when I started to skip all side quests it was perfect.
Monster hunt can be nice since the combat and bosses is very fun. But I actually skipped most of those aswell.
I also like that the gearing is super simple. Good thing it did not copy god of war.
I hope if they do this type of FF again, they take some notes from 7rebirth and black myth wukong.
If they do side quests they have to be good, like in rebirth, or a fun boss like in Wukong. We need a good party dynamic like in Rebirth, and a good action rpg progression, like in Wukong.

I'm not spending 80euros and waiting 6 yrs of development for a 20hrs game... When a game is good I wanna play as much as I can and when it's bad I just stop playing and I don't go on just because "it's only 20hrs long, might as well finish it".

The problem with XVI is that the duration of the game brought diminishing returns. First 15 hours were some of the best FF has ever offered. By the 30th hour I was sick of it and couldn't wait for it to be over, and by the time I finished it I considered it to be the worst mainline FF since II. Some stories don't benefit from being made longer and longer, especially when the graphical and cinematic ambition of the developers means money and time gets sucked away from great story telling and bringing the world to life, and gets spent on over the top set pieces and cutscenes instead. And they still haven't made a profit with XVI even after all that expense.
Longer games are fine, but in reality there's often a trade off. And I think if they want to make great games with long stories that maintain quality throughout, they need to sacrifice some other aspects of development. I'd be fine with that though, personally.
In any case, I still consider €4 per hour of entertainment excellent value, and would rather have a well made shorter game for that money then a game I'm sick of by the end of it. And if you replay or do NG+ then that value is even better than €4 an hour. Seems fine to me.

@@JoshWiniberg if the gameplay is good it carries any game even if the story's got some padding here and there or less than stellar parts. Look at FF7 remake.
The problem with 16 was that it was pretty mid (except for the big fights and cutscenes). You just excuse it in the beginning hours cause the premis is intriguing and you obviously give it room to grow except it never actually does and then the boredom sets in. First final fantasy since 7 that i put down and stopped playing for a long time.
80 euros for a 20hrs game is too much and i know it because i know about elden ring, god of war and others.

funny things, i was thinking the same, i even made a comment on Maximilian Dood video "Is Devil May Cry DEAD?? Itsuno leaves Capcom" 😉
but it does make sense if you think about it that CBU3 now CS3 working on the next FF, CBU1 working on FF7 P3 and kingdom hearts 4, so what big team of Square with the man powers that can work on AAA game ?!
also Yoshi-P said that the team gained experience with FF16 and will be working on improving it in the next game they will work on, , so it's very likely that the next game from CS3 is going to be like FF16 combat stlye, but i don't know if it's FF17 or FF16 p2 or new IP maybe FF16 spin off ???

Well he is leaving Capcom, so makes sense he would do some work for SE. I think make the combat similar to FF7 Remake, not as complicated as Rebirth, but still an insanly good game and keep FF7 triolgy as the definitive combat engine for Final Fantasy now, no more switching it up for experimentation. They have got it almost perfect, lets keep it going.

I just want, no, NEED more than one playable character in the next FF game. Like I walked away from 16 knowing that I’ll never play it again. And that’s never happened to me with ANY mainline FF games before. I have often wondered if I would have a completely different opinion on 16 if it let you control the other 2 characters you end up with towards the end of the game. Hell, even if they let us fully switch to and play as Torgal even. But as compelling a character as Clive was, it still wasn’t enough for a MAINLINE FINAL FANTASY GAME.
