For just over 100 years the Schott company has been making coats. In the early days The Schott brothers were making raincoats in the basement of their lower east side tenement, but by WWII they were making bomber jackets for the US Air Force. Later the military style spread to all branches of the military and law enforcement. So by the time Marlon Brando need a jacket for The Wild One in 1953 there was no other choice but the Perfecto. To this day, Schott NYC is still owned and run by the 3rd and 4th generation of the Schott family. And the manufacturing hasn't gone far either - now being made in Union, New Jersey, just across the river from Schott's main business office in New York City. We went there to learn how a Schott Motorcycle Jacket is made!

How a Schott Perfecto is made - the ultimate motorcycle jacket.
The label for bad boys everywhere is black leather motorcycle jacket. The legend started when Marlon Brando wore the Schott Perfecto motorcycle jacket in the movie “The Wild One”. After the movies release the Perfecto, the first jacket designed with the rider in mind, was banned from schools and became the marker for every teen rebel. Since then the jacket has been adopted by heroes like Joey Ramone, Bruce Springsteen and Jay Z proving it is still the jacket of choice for cool.
For just over 100 years the Schott company has been making coats. It wasn't all cool and leather. In the early days The Schott brothers were making raincoats in the basement of their lower east side tenement. But their business grew and grew, and by WWII they were making bomber jackets for the US Air Force. Later the military style spread to all branches of the military and law enforcement. So by the time Marlon Brando need a jacket for The Wild One in 1953 there really was no other choice but the Perfecto. To this day, the apple hasn't dropped far from the tree. Schott NYC is still owned and run by the 3rd and 4th generation of the Schott family. And the manufacturing has gone far either - now being made in Union, New Jersey, just across the river from Schott's main business office in New York City.

My father handed down his leather jacket to me. He bought it back in the 80s. It's an Open Road jacket. Nothing beats it. It's as classic as it gets and it has stood the test of time. Still looks almost brand new
I have a Schott Perfecto 613 from the early 60's, and even after all those years, it still feels and looks incredible.
Hate us or love us this is one good piece of Americana history. Thank you Schott Perfecto
J Z is not even wearing a perfecto, he's wearing a garbage bag ok
I bought my Schott jacket (tab collar, not the Perfecto) when I bought my first motorcycle over 20 years ago. I love that all of its form follows function, not fashion... and the leather is thick. It's a great jacket; totally worth the price.
I own a Schott Perfecto 118, and it's my favorite jacket. I've had it for just under a year now, after buying it brand new, and it's still a bit stiff, but it's definitely softened up quite a bit since I first bought it.
I give you credit for remaining made in USA.
Been wearing this style jacket since the 80s,they're great jackets that last for years.
"Hallmark of a true rebel." Shows JayZ.
I'm designing and sewing a custom "chilly weather/back to school" wardrobe for my son, and this year I'm definitely including a leather jacket. :D He's five, and I'm enjoying the custom tailoring him cute rocker clothes as much as I can because he will eventually grow up and rebel by demanding souless big brand clothes instead of my hand-stitched threads full of metalhead mommy love, lol.
I still have my PERFECTO, it's 30 years old. And my daughter has been trying to get it from me. But no way!!!!!!!
Hands down my favorite jacket of all time 👌🏽💜
Why didn't they show some Punkrock Bands like the Clash or the Ramones instead of Jay Z who even don't wear a Perfecto?
I'm in a band so I love it
What a cool jacket! I love my 613S so much. Thank you, Schott!
I just bought my first Schott (a used 118 from 1990) after wearing cheaply made copy type jackets. I am finally stoked to have the real deal, though I could never afford to buy a new one, this one I got is in close to new condition!
Wow, a very beautiful jacket, crafted perfectly
i got mine 30 years ago and it's still very good im getting a new one becose they're great .
Schott is such a great jacket-will easily last a lifetime.
Still the best all around motorcycle jacket.
