Dionysius the Phocaean or Dionysius of Phocaea (Greek: Διονύσιος) (fl. 494 BC) {could not find an older name} was a Phocaean admiral of ancient Greece during the Persian Wars of 5th century BC, and was the commander of the Ionian fleet at the Battle of Lade in 494 BC. Although commanding a formidable force, according to the Greek historian Herodotus, his men were worked so hard in preparing for battle that on the eve of the battle they refused to engage the Persian fleet. Although little is known of his life, Dionysius was in command of the Ionian contingent, gathered from the many islands throughout Ionia, which joined the main Greek naval force outside Miletus' port of Lade. Upon his arrival in the naval camp of Lade, he observed that his men displayed low morale and suffered from a lack of discipline. Believing his men were unprepared for the impending battle, he called a general assembly among the camp and, in a speech to his men, said: "Now for our affairs are on the razor's edge, men of Ionia, wither we are to be free or slaves [...] so if you will bear hardships now, you will suffer temporarily but be able to overcome your enemies." He then began ordering his men to perform several hours of martial exercises a day as well as drawing out the fleet in the order of battle and instructed the rowers and marines in naval tactics. After a week, dissension began to appear within the ranks of the Samians and other officers (particularly as Dionysius, who arrived with only three ships, exerted such a strong influence over the rest of the fleet). Even as the battle began, many of the Ionian ships under the command of Dionysius still refused to engage with the Persians and eventually almost 120 of the 350 Greek warships abandoned the battle leaving the remaining Greek ships to be annihilated leaving the city of Miletus to the mercy of the Persians. Despite this setback, Dionysius continued fighting the Persians sinking three warships before being forced to retreat during the final hours of the battle. Returning to Phocaea, Dionysius attacked several trading vessels and seized their cargo before arriving in Sicily. During his later years, he would become involved in piracy against the Carthaginian and Tyrsenian merchants. However, in keeping with the friendship between Phocaea and Greece, he left travelling Greek merchants alone This being the oldest name I could find he's my thought on who Joy Boy was actually meant to be similar to since the Pirates seem to be in some cases. Point is Wings of Icarus and a historical Pirate named similar to his pops seemed Sus enough I thought I would bring it up. Plus the Greco-Persian War is like from the movie 300 right...? So seems like an interesting era for Joy Boys to be modeled around. But yeah the groups associated with Pirates and therefore the Ancient Kingdom of One Piece are Phoenicians Illyrians Tyrrhenians Meditarian to Singapore was basically there area of influence between the 3. Not sure if its a mix or not that Oda would go foe.
One element people always forget... Its in your face yet people never really consider it... The thing that Nolan and Rumbar Pirates and Roger all have in common and is in fact related to Luffy tho not directly yet. Sickness. They all dealt with the same one; endemic and a clear sign that some one got to close to Laugh Tale. Because what happens if the Mother Flame of Ancient Kingdom has a melt down? Like radiation of exponentially worse. What if the Sun was not a Sun... the Moon not a Moon and the Planet not a Planet... Yes What if Tot Musica was what held everyone enthralled. The Daemon thing and such were not cannon but rather the potential that the planet was never real and that One Piece is the Sub space forged out of the use of several DF (whatever the form at the time was) working in concert to allow the perfect conditions. Joy Boy Shattered the Inception; he dragged the ugly truths in front of others ending there inception.. The Sun was the Mother Flame back in the day. It went Chernoble... The Planet was Punk Record but went offline... The Moons were DF holders but "died" when the Records went off line... and what linked it all together still roams the planet but no longer in control of its faculties; and finally its the exposure to these Brain Static generators that subtly weaken others leading to a sickness of the mind so profound as to be unseen for what it is. bedu bedu bedu gotcha. Den Den Mushi used to be the ones in control of planet brain records. Their incalculable suffering at being cut off is unknowingly being felt and sensed by the powerful and is slowly killing their JOY of LIVING. The symptoms seem to be lethargy and coughing up blood. Only those that are well traveled and powerful in will seem to catch it... I mean its the sickness WB had a bunch of Ivy's for. There ya go; I think I am on to something with the idea.
I think it's pretty clear that what Oda meant as a true pirate like Joyboy is someone with the most freedom, because just like SnK One Piece's talk about the essence of freedom a lot. Idk if you remember this or not, but Luffy has a different goal right now compared to his goal in the first episode, it seems like it hasn't changed, but it's because to achieve this goal he has to become the pirate king first. This different goal was hinted in the transition between Wano and Egghead arc where Luffy told his crew about his new goal but it was cut as if Oda was trying to hide something, but considering crew's reaction plus everything Luffy's has gone through all this time it's clear that he wanted to be free from the shackle of the World Government thus being the true pirate like Roger and Joyboy.
@@ily_leira i believe the flashbacks of luffys childhood contains luffys "true" dream he wants to achieve by becoming king of the pirates... The answers are there ...somewhere I have been rereading them over and over ...
The void century is the story in greek mythology that Oda based one piece on and has been working towards revealing all these years. The reason why his foreshadowing was always so good is because he just slowly revealed elements of a story the greeks wrote long ago. One Piece is the story of Prometheus beginning with him stealing fire from the heavens and giving it to man and ending with him escaping the punishment of the gods.
@@youngog9150 it isn't really a theory, it's more of a literary analysis. It's not a theory that Oda used the story of prometheus as the template for one piece, it's a fact. And we know it's a fact because Oda has finally provided the pieces of the puzzle to know that for sure. He didn't accidentally rewrite the story of Prometheus. The whole "void century" thing was a device so that Oda could slowly drop hints over the years and keep us guessing. There is still One Piece missing though, and that will be revealed on raftel (or wherever the gorosei have hidden the last poneglyph)
I have another theory, Oda loves to play on words. We are thinking that Joyboy took to the sea and was called a pirate for being a criminal in a boat. But maybe he was a pirate in the ethmological origin of the word, akin to what is nowadays viewed as a pirate. He copied technology of the Ancient Kingdom where he lived and gave it to others to improve their lives. Quite like the story of Sidarta Gutama. But instead of people being grateful for that, they became fearful of this technology and destroyed the, now known as, Ancient Kingdom using their own weapons.
I think JoyBoy was labeled the first pirate in the the same way that Roger was labeled “Gold Roger” and then King if the Pirates. To confuse the poly lace of his actual mission and intentions. JoyBoy, like dragon, was a freedom fighter. They labeled him pirate to make people think he wanted to take something from them and not liberate them.
Truman Show: Joyboy Also the talk about information control is even more relevant as we move forward in A.I. as it all boils down to the data you train it on. Who is the arbiter of “good data”? How do you account for bias? Fun stuff
Now Bink's sake has a lot more meaning, maybe Bink's was JB's real name ? And delivering his sake was his way of finishing his story ? Food for thought.
@@bigwex1805It wouldnt be disappointing, because its not the sake itself, but what it represents thats important. Imagine, Joyboy has this bottle of incredible alcohol he wanted to share as part of the celebrations after everyone was freed, but couldn't do it. So, the sake sits, waiting for that world-spanning party.
Kyle Hill (science youtuber) made a video a while back about informational hazards. One of the things he talks about is information on how to make nuclear weapons and the materials needed to make them sp accessible presents an unpredictable danger to everyone on earth. If any random person or group can develop nuclear weapons, it can get even more out of hand than it currently is with governments doing so for their own self-interested reasons. In One Piece, you can see this idea brushed up on in Enies Lobby, with Franky burning the counter-Pluton blueprints. On the other hand, the world government killing the scholars of Ohara and hunting Robin is due to their attempts to shut down an information hazard to themselves. The Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs are about information hazards on both ends of the spectrum. The government wanting to cover up history for an unknown reason, and a pirate/shipwright burning the blueprints to a super weapon to keep it out of the wrong hands. Morj did a stream sometime during the Wano arc where we all got to talking about how terrifying a dictatorship / authoritarian regime could be with the powers that exist in One Piece. Sugar's fruit to erase memories of people and get rid of dissenters. Big Mom's information network, blackmail, soul taxes and Mont Door's weird book fruit locking people away. Kaido's spy network, slave labor. Prisons like Impel Down. The poison fruit capable of killing just about anyone, Viola's clairvoyant fruit and Robin's flower fruit allowing for unparalleled spying. The mirror world fruit letting them go right into peoples's homes, anywhere there's a mirror, they can sneak in. Enel's use of electricity extending his observation haki to hear any dissent and smite them with lightning. The string fruit to physically control people and turn them against one another. The calm fruit could be used to silence dissent and screams, calls for help. Law's fruit can literally steal people's hearts and hold them for ransom. Bon Clay and Catarina Devon's fruits can be used for infiltration and manipulation. Lasers, automata, clone soldiers, pacifistas, seraphim, lunarians, stripping people of their emotions through genetic augmentation, the ancient weapons, whatever Imu used on Lulusia. If you run down the list of devil fruit powers and all the various authoritarian and twisted things that people have done throughout the series and tie it all together under one regime (the ancient kingdom), it would be absolutely terrifying. It would be so authoritarian that it makes the government in 1984 seem like freedom by comparison. Vegapunk says the ancient kingdom was bountiful and advanced, but he never says it was free. You can have a quote-unquote 'prosperous society' where everyone's basic needs are met and they're broadly safe, but they live under tyranny. Look at Whole Cake Island and Dressrosa for a microchosm of this. If one civilization had all of this power at their disposal, even if it started with good intentions, it is painfully obvious how suffocating and destructive that society could become with a shift in leadership and intentions. I think with how Oda is writing Vegapunk's dialogue, (don't immediately judge the ones who kill me as evil, because I don't know their intentions or reasoning), he is possibly setting it up such that during the void century, the world government and the 20 kings were rebelling against the ancient kingdom's tyranny, and somewhere along the way their power made them corrupt just the same. And the gorosei and Imu could have started this whole void century and cleansing thing on the premise of preventing another ancient kingdom from cropping up. But you know the saying, "absolute power corrupts absolutely". They, just like the ancient kingdom, became tyrannical monsters. Edit: Also, I dig the Joyboy metal gear visual. Lol Edit 2: Your section about a flase reality reminded me of the movie The Village. If you don't mind spoilers... In the village, the people live in something akin to 19th century Pennsylvania, in an open grassy area in the middle of a large forest. They live very simple lives, and they aren't allowed to go out at night because there are monsters that come from the forest who will take them away. Later in the movie, one of the characters runs through the forest trying to escape (I think she was trying to find medicine, it's been years since I saw it). It's revealed that the monsters are actually the village elders/people running the place in disguise, trying to herd the people back into the village through fear. At the end of the movie, the main character finally escapes the forest and finds herself on a road. A modern asphalt road, and a guy in a car shows up. They actually live in the 2000s. They were lied to their entire lives, kept in a carefully managed primitive open air prison society.
Imu lies everyone about Joy Boy desire to be the only king. Everybody betray Joy Boy (including old friend Zunesha and Giant Robot) , that Imu prevailed.
I think the "False Reality" could have to do with how ppl thought the world was flat, and you couldn't sail too far or you would fall off. Possible a Halogram wall, or waterfall
Yes I have thought for a bit that the 20 kings helped joy it beat the ancient kingdom then betrayed him later. I believe they are the 20 nations that joy boy freed along his journey much like luffy. Then emu slowly planted seeds to betray him. Maybe they where on the same crew maybe not
Joyboy being the first pirate puts us in a real interesting place to theorize. Some key points that are strong in my mind are: 1) the overall theme about resources being limited and fighting over them 2) the fact slaves still exist 3) the fact that seemingly ONLY the nefertari family knows anything about the past and everyone else only knows whatever the WG has been telling them 4) the fact that most places in the world seem primitive while the the ancient kingdom was far more advanced than even Dr Vegapunk 5) The world has been sinking little by little maybe even since 800 years ago 6) The fact that the WG panicked at Prof. Clover uttering the name of the ancient kingdom. Just the name alone can imply what kind of world it used to be before the void century. I think we can all agree that Oda has been writing each arc with a central theme about the story that is going to relate to what happened to the ancient kingdom. For example, in Alabasta, they convinced the population that the king was responsible for the rain being gone which made people fight over resources. People rebelled and ended up supporting the wrong side (Crocodile) In Skypea, people fought over the land which was also a limited resource. The shandorans were originally from SOMEWHERE ELSE and unfortunately brought to a new place against their will and made to fight for their right to the land and ultimately lost it to "God". Learning to co-exist was an important theme in this arc and so was the importance of advancing science instead of barbaric religions. In Water 7 we see a lot of things including the misuse of weapon technology. This was another instance of a bad guy deceiving the public eye to make someone else look bad. In Shabondy arc we see how prevalent slavery is and how the navy turns a blind to it. There's a lot to bring up, but following the themes and patterns that we've seen so far, I think we can expect that there was some great deception that happened 800 years ago. Something that a bad guy can put all the blame for all the problems in the world and unite against it. What would be interesting to me is what kind of twist can you give this story to make it even more incredible. I'm sure there is a mind blowing reason why the world is sinking and why Joyboy was the first pirate. Again, this is quite the time to be theorizing for One Piece.
i REALLY like this idea!! im not 100% certain how plausible Oda going the matrix route is but damn its such a cool theory! 💕 i also had an unrelated thought train that i wanna talk about lol here we go :3 so, Rocks D Xebec. Blackbeard clearly admires him, and that has a lot of interesting applications. if we learn what Rocks was all about, we could learn a lot about what Blackbeard plans to do as well :) with that in mind, this thinking may be a bit too literal, but it explains something big. I think Rocks posessed the Mero Mero no mi - the Love Love fruit. It would give an explanation to how Rocks was able to gather such a powerful crew, since we don't exactly know what the fruit does yet! it could very well rally people to your side, as far as we know :3 (i also think it would be funny if his name was literal hehe) To go a bit further, I think Blackbeard invaded Amazon Lily for the fruit - Rocks' power. How cool would that be if it's the case!! Right now we don't really have any explanation for why Blackbeard wanted Boa's power. I'd like to add that if the love love fruit does in fact make people love the user and rally to their side; it would be yet another trait of Blackbeard that directly foils Luffy, which Oda has done A LOT. ty for readinggg 💕💕
its possible that the unamed kingdom was a atlantean/Mu/Lemuria empire they eventually sank like the ancient empire because the greed empires of myth. But instead the 20 kingdoms that idolized them swore to fill the "void" the empire left. they lied that the 20 killed the empire, but IMU decided to emulate and keep the structure up instead of deconstructing it and returning the power to the people.
I really like the idea of the ancient kingdom being on the moon. The celestial dragons wanted to do the same and reign from above, but they didn't have the tech to leave earth. So what they did is create the red line and sit atop of that
I'm amazed at how much this reminds me of a filler ark that took place right before water 7 and I almost don't think that's a coincidence considering how relevant other pretime skip arks are to future reveals. One night while the straw hats were in their ship off the shore of an island, they were all were sleeping except Robin. An enemy successfully stole the memories of everyone who was sleeping, it was necessary that they were sleeping for their memories to be stolen.
How many of us are "pirates" without ever leaving our computer? File sharing and copywrite law says a lot. Piracy is in the eye of the beholder. I can call the same person terrorist you call savior. And we can both be right. Law and morality are never the same.
My brain is overheating with all the thoughts this video is bringing up. If the people were suffering due to the advanced technology, then I could see Joy Boy destroying it "by his own hands.".
Well, legally the word pirate stands for someone who commits crimes on high sea, meaning in a territory that has no affiliation with any state. So the term pirate started getting used to describe international criminals, so, not criminals that fall into a national constitution, meaning that they are for example, not a criminal of england, but a criminal of the world. The word pirate is still used in that capacity even today, that's why we say that exporting and importing media illegally between countries is pirating, in the law you become a pirate. You can be a sea pirate, a cyber pirate, the thing that makes them both pirates is that they are international criminals, enemies not just of a state, but of the world (or part of the world). As I see it, Joyboy is the first overseas criminal, someone who declined and fought the hegemony imposed by an imperial power that achieved global reach, and thus became the first enemy of the entire world (legally speaking).
I think maybe the ancient kingdom were the world government of their time but with different people and Imu was Joyboy’s version of Blackbeard who ended winning the war
Guys what if the ancient Kingdom was so advanced that they didn't use ships as a means of travel or for exploration, what if they used planes and other advanced means of travel, that's might explain why Joyboy was the first pirate as if he was the first to sail on a ship/boat ( we already know that the one piece world is a Post apocalyptic world).
Bro this theory is so fucking fire.🔥 Now it makes sense why the ancient kingdom was “bad” and why the 20 Kings came together to fight them. But also why Joyboy is against the Ancient Kingdom and is labeled a pirate instead of having an alliance with AK or been it’s King, which was what I previously thought Oda was going for
When we learned that JB was from the ancient kingdom, instead of creating it I thought “what would make luffy a pirate to a perfect society?” Luffys definition of piracy is freedom, why would luffy rebel? There was no freedom. I like to imagine the ancient kingdom would be similar to the society in The Giver where choice and individuality is stripped
Very interesting! I was thinking 1984 where truth is fabricated to the citizens to control them. Any sort of freedom or individuality would cause the "Thought Police" to recondition you into a "law abiding" citizen.
i still support the peacemain vs morganeers. that joy boy was the first freedom pirate who defied the criminals and royals. both worked together to maintain a union that allows war, slavery, money, and other sinister purposes that maintained have and have not .
I think Nika is a ancient entity that pre dates the void century and was killed by imu in the early part of the void century... And that joyboy is the first inheritor of joyboy.s will and was the first and only mortal to threaten imu later on during the void century after imu took control This would explain why imu wants to flood the world he realized Nika will keeps coming back in pirates so he decided to flood the world to kill the pirates This would also mean that giant straw hat could be Nika,s not joy boys and that's nika,s grave
what if, there is ocean 900 years ago. but it was frowned upon to go to the ocean because it will disconnect you to the "punk records" 900 years ago. Joyboy didnt care and wanted to be "free" from the punk records at that time then he was hunted down by the ancient kingdom and then when he defeated ancient kingdom, he became the "king of ancient kingdom" and made a new ideology that allowed freedom and the 20 kings didnt like his new ideology so they defeated the new ancient kingdom by using their own technologies.
I think it went down something like this : 1) Joyboy broke a law or custom of the Ancient Kingdom which resulted him being banished to the sea or was given a impossible task finish (like delivering sake to a place that never existed) 2)Joyboy began to travel throughout lands in search for that place and eventually was captured as a slave 3) he would became a symbol freedom for the slaves and escape 4)he would than gather up a crew full of former slaves or ppl he met during his adventures 5) he would eventually return back to the Kingdom and tell them what the outside world is like and there policy of isolationism has resulted in the ppl being continually oppressed 6) Ancient Kingdom goes to war with the world especially the 20 kingdoms Btw this theory is supposed to mirror Fisher Tigers story a bit because I always thought his story was the essence of one piece
I always like tonlisten to your theories before falling asleep, so my subconscious can pickup all the things you say and makenm dreams weird. Well 10:09 just ripped me out of my halfasleep state. Thanks for the sound asset for my nightmare.
Joy Boy is the physical manifestation of the Sun God Nika for many cultures in one piece. And Nika is considered a great liberator. We know the WG came to power after the ancient kingdom fell. So who was Joy Boy liberating people from? I always assumed it was the ancient kingdom, I believe they, while once great, went to far in the pursuit of science and committed sins that not only caused the people to rebel, but the nature of the world to change forever.
Here's a question i haven't seen raised before; why is joyboy called "joyboy"? Yes he was peobably full of joy same as luffy is, but surely that alone isn't enough to earn a name that is specifically about being happy? I think it's possible that the ancient kingdom was a place where almost no one felt any form of joy. Maybe emotions were policed in a distopian manner where no one was allowed to feel any strong emotions, positive or negative, as a way of "keeping the peace". Think like a punk records where the people not only sync their minds with every day, but also their emotions. I think joyboy might have been called that not just because he himself was full of joy, which made him special, but also that he spread joy itself to the people of the world by liberating them and allowing them to feel emotion. This also could potentially create enemies for him from within the people he liberated, because not only did he bring the ability to feel joy, but also negative emotions. Anger, loss, dispair. Similar to that guy in the matrix who betrayed the crew because he wanted to go back to being ignorant. These negative emotions could have lead to joyboy eventually being betrayed by someone or some people close to him, and his eventual downfall
Something that should be taken into consideration when making time based theories like this is O’Hara existed during this time. The knowledge tree was said to be 5000 years old. So if it’s 5000 years old that means at least O’Hara was present during the void century or the land around the tree that was later known as O’Hara.
I could see joyboy losing to the 20 kings in a Luffy/oden esque way like how oden danced in the capital or was defeated after the one lady emulated momo to trick him. Something like that where maybe he thought it was one way because of a trusting nature, then they snake him out
japanese love to be pedantic. theres that to consider as well. first jolly roger to be raised was that of joyboy and his crew is the most sensible thing so far My theory is that jb and homies were sake merchants prior to being framed by nerona family which forced them to become these outlaws
One moment that bothered me was that one of the celestials asks what the void century, since everyone and their mom know about void, swore not to say something.
Why did Roger laugh when he found out the "true" history of the world? Also Rayleigh told the SH they might come to a different conclusion when they get there. Idk, it might be a lot simpler than we think.
As always banger after banger. Genuinely believe you've consistently been one of the best One Piece creators on the platform and loved this video! To expand on your ideas and others': I've been toying more and more with the idea that for Oda to continue to deliver, the Void Century flashback may show a world not too dissimilar to our own current world, albeit more technologically advanced, which has gone dystopian/ a dark timeline of events that unfolds. The Ancient Kingdom may have been an amalgamation of the prior islands that once made up a supercontinent (like Pangea - but called One Piece) but have since been destroyed/ dismantled (from the misappropriation of the Ancient Weapons) and made into the Red Line (move into place by Ancient Giants and hence being shown to be a mix of summer islands-winter islands etc. which may have been the case for Wano as well, and also hinted by the island whales/ Laboon on both sides trying to get past it normally through echolocation that the Red Line is an unnatural/ fairly new ocean structure). The flashback may serve as an allegory for the follies of humankind/ the masses not rising up in the face of deceit/ manipulation/ corruption by a more powerful ruling class (not having the freedom to dream/think/fight for themselves to change this world - whereas JoyBoy being the first pirate was awake and trying to fight in the face of this). I have a hunch - Oda's dream is to change the world (in his own way), also inspired by mangaka before him like Osamu Tezuka. Ultimately I think Oda has always wanted to plant the seed of trying to change the world for the better in his own way - through the use of stories (One Piece) to impart important messages into children of tomorrow (as alluded to in Fishman Island being what he views as the one way to overcome prejudices' etc. - hence why Luffy's birthday also being Children's' Day), and similarly will be a central theme of the Void Century flashback of trying to pass on messages/ a story (JoyBoy's) of how to have a brighter future (people living together regardless of species working towards your dreams if you have the courage to fight for them and challenge what is wrong by making your own decisions), which may have been written on the poneglyphs yet suppressed by the current WG. The story of Joy Boy being a direct parralel to Luffy's (and the real life One Piece manga in our world) and the power to influence a generation by instilling these values necessary for the world to change and bring about a new dawn.
I think you might be missing the whole thin Luffy is the reincarnation of JoyBoy and BlackBeard is the direct descendent of joyboy that for which is earned like attitudes, triumphs over any and all materialistic fortunes inherited at birth or after death.
It's funny to watch your videos as an adhd because I always get distracted by the drawings or something you said and then I have to go back like 2 minutes to catch back up to what you're saying
Maybe the D in the name means Disconnected or something? They aren't able to connect to the ancient kingdom brain and that's why they were criminals? Could IMU be the ancient kingdom brain gone sentient?
*Theory:* What if the name of the ancient Kningdom was actually *ancient Kingdom* and the truth that this reveals is that not only it was erased during the void century but it was way older than anyone thought. An actually *ancient* kingdom maybe so old it was originally created by beings before humans, in times so old maybe even hell resembled the scenery of the face of the earth. Maybe it was the primal creation by real demons or hellish beings like the lunarians. *OR* maybe that Kingdom oppressed humanity after its members arrived from outer space (or maybe lunarians from the moon?) at actually ancient times. Maybe those demon looking creatures were actually aliens that came after humanity had developed but enslaved them. Maybe during the void century JoyBoy, the first "good" pirate, sailed the seas to set everyone free and rebel against this authority that even for his time was an already established *ancient* Kingdom that had been oppressing humans for Goda knows how long. Maybe during the void century there was a shift of power but not a total victory. Like sugars fruits, but in a reverse way, they erased themselves from everyones memory and therefore history. During the passed 800 years the final battle between the members of that kingdom and JoyBoy had been pending, the last battle that will decide who will rule, like Doflamingo said who's reality will become the truth. The battle was pending but everyone forgot about it, like they were sleeping but now the drums of liberation are here to awaken everyone from their sleep to fight and claim victory and freedom at Dawn. Maybe Luffys and Rogers dream relates to *awaking* true freedom. Thats why the Gorosei and Imu are are afraid of anyone learning that the name of the ancient Kingdom was actually *ancient Kingdom* , because that will drop the first domino that will lead to Imu and that Kingdom, that still lurks in the shadows, to be revealed and the final battle, which will dethrone them from rulers who pull the strings behind the scenes, to be fought.
What is Roger laughed… and white beard said they would turn the world upside down… and Roger said he would not really die because they found out they are living in a simulation or inside of a dream and the dawn is actually to wake everyone up?
I highly doubt that roger would have said "oh joyboy, I wish I'd be born in your time" if it was so dystopic... The ex punk record theory would easily explain the 100 year of void
I think there are easier ways to make the "First Pirate" thing work without your “post-infinite tsukuyomi” world theory, it is a bit overly complicated morally to work in a story with definitive resolutions (reminds me of the Moriarty story line from Star Trek the Next Generation, where they have to end it without a resolution). Wouldn't it be easier that back then the world just had no international travel? If you believe your island is the whole world, why travel to the endless seas? If you have played Xenoblade Chronicles 1 you will know what I am talking about, basically the ocean outside the two giants were considered to be endless and empty, therefore there were no pirates in that world even though it has an ocean. So here is my theory: before the tech revolution of the Void Century, the individual islands of the One Piece world was isolated to the point that each one believing that they were the "Pangea" of their world (which would also explain why there were historical records before the Void Century, they might all have been the islands’ isolated history, and not world history), with the oceans back then being next to impossible to traverse due to inadequate sailing technology and Colossal Seakings living throughout the planet's oceans, until one day the people were inspired by their endless yearning for freedom and wanderlust and thus kickstarted their technological revolution resulting in advanced traversal technology (leading to a global marketplace for ideas, thus further accelerated the technological leap of the Void Century), ultimately creating a prison of sorts to contain those Colossal Seakings into the stretch of isolated ocean known as the Calm Belt. After a century of prosperity the world split due to the ideas being shared came into conflict with each other resulting in a world war of never-before-seen proportions, after which most of the world was reset back into a state of lower technological levels with supervisions from the New World Order overseeing their advancements from that point on so that a world war will never happen again (technological advancement was not halted, but will now only be permitted if they benefit the WG and only be shared under their discretion), with part of the population that was on the losing side then being labeled as criminals and slaves. The last of them was Joyboy's faction which refused to be assimilated into the new world order and had no allegiance of their own, they would fight against the 20 Kingdoms until they too would fail and be wiped from history, they were the First Pirates.
I like the idea of creating physical holograms, in the fight vs Kaido, luffy changed his body and the surroundings but doesn’t make anything resembling physical objects, later vs lucci he creates a pair of goggles to wear which I think is an evolution of his power without realizing it.
I've thought for a while that there was a good chance that the ancient Kingdom was not good. What still stumps me is with this theory why is the name still such an issue?
The name has me stumped too but if i had to guess, just hearing the name will either reveal something bout the nature of the ancient kingdom, wheter that means the whole world will relate to the ancient kingdom being the victims or being the aggressors, either one leading to the masses revolting agaisnt the WG
This video made me think of the possible matrix connection. All of the people on the blue seas unwittingly being used as a power source for this ancient kingdom all the while they’re trapped in the moon genjutsu.
The "D" means Drum, it's a mark given to the allies and supporters of Joy Boy. Joy Boy was the first pirate meaning he had a crew and probably a fleet as well, his fleet captains would've been like his "Drums of Liberation". The tribe of "D" are the descendants of those first generation pirates.
Vikings were Templars so were the early pirates as is evidenced by the symbols and mythologies held by the groups, they are "the same rose by another name". The eight petals in fullest bloom
It could be that there was a Pangea in the void century, but the mother flame was used so frequently that the rising ocean levels flooded the low lying parts of the continent, and the islands that exist in the present are pieces of high ground that could avoid the mass flooding. That would make sense with the sea walls that Wano built, and the idea was sort of hinted at with Warship Island, the first anime filler arc in the series. I'm also still waiting for Oars' moniker "Island Puller" to be explained, there's no way that's not significant to the world building
There have definitely been hints (I can't think of what they are right now) that the ancient kingdom and joyboy weren't necessarily on the same page. I remember some piece of information we got made me think that and I was confused about it at the time. So I'm inclined to believe that they were enemies to some degree
Got more head cannon based off of history Oda seems to take inspiration from: The bucaneers were probably the real first pirates, and joyboy got help from them as far as learning how to sail. Joyboy probably admired the bucaneers and would make himself big like them, hence the big straw hat he wore. (He probably wasnt a giant because it seems that joyboy only lived for a portion of the void century with that 100 yr period being the only part of history that cant be studied). The bucaneers were probably sea faring people that were used as a faction under the gov but were ultimately prosecuted
JB always cooking I like the theory that everything is digital during the void century and that after its collapse all that info is gone. Like if youtube takes deletes a video and there's no og video left ita gone forever
I can get behind a Pangea theory if an upgraded version of the island island fruit exists. A planet planet fruit if you will, used to spread out all the land into the islands we know, but most of it put into the red line. If the world was Pangea sea trade would still exist, but Joyboy could be the first pirate, a sailor to unlawfully sail or perhaps just an explorer like Luffy.
Two parallels I am seeing out of this possibility. First is Germa 66, who for a short time became the dominant force before overthrown only to be seen as a fable in other places of the world. The second is less obvious but Vegapunk to Roger. Roger willingly gave his life so that at the time of his execution he could speak the truth of some treasure or prize out in the world and that sparked the age of piracy. Vegapunk is doing the exact same thing. Now how much of Roger simply referring to gold and riches and how much is Vegapunk speaking of knowledge? Maybe inverted, maybe the same exact thing? Who knows. But I expect Vegapunks words to spark an era of discovery and research that spits right in the eye of the WG.
As you were talking about technology and all something occured too me. We know howish the DF are being created. What if Kuma's power (Paw Paw DF) is originated from a person who INVENTED the technology to extract souls from persons. By doing so they could even extract power from actual grown DF's attaining it's power easly just like how Kuma can extract memories pain and compress. Doffy talked about Laws fruit abilty and something extra on the line and that with the 2 powers combined he could practicly rule the world. TLDR: What if Kuma's power too extract is already a technology witch was invented 800-900 years ago?
Well Dr. Clover was not a pirate… he was given the title of a pirate by the world government. Whoever ran the world gov in the days of Joyboy gave him the first title of pirate
You and dawn and dusk cooked today on Joyboy's origins, i agree in that the ancient kingdom was in a brave new world type scenario Assuming that oda is basing the void century off of Plato's dialouges then Imu is the demiurge(Thoth or Tut) and was the King of Atlantis and Atlantis represents the ancient kingdom, Joyboy might of destroyed the ancient kingdom and its techology and recovered 2 of their 3 ancient weapons and 20 remaining families fled the ancient kingdom before it went down and moved to the red line and they enacted their revenge on Mu/Lemuria/Athens(Joyboys kingdom empowered by his Mother Flame) with the flood using Uranus and all the WG has left is onmyodo magic, yokai dfs and haki while the Ds have accumulated haki and imagination via inheirited will
I had a similar thought but in my mind I thought what if the ancient kingdom was where Imu and the Gorosei came from. AKA the ancient kingdom was one of the 20 kingdoms.
they talked about a flooding in the void century and that makes sense. if he broke the other moons - and they land on earth, the extra mass would cause the sea to rise! thus sinking the ancient kingdom!

Dionysius the Phocaean or Dionysius of Phocaea (Greek: Διονύσιος) (fl. 494 BC) {could not find an older name}
was a Phocaean admiral of ancient Greece during the Persian Wars of 5th century BC, and was the commander of the Ionian fleet at the Battle of Lade in 494 BC.
Believing his men were unprepared for the impending battle, he called a general assembly among the camp and, in a speech to his men, said: "Now for our affairs are on the razor's edge, men of Ionia, wither we are to be free or slaves [...] so if you will bear hardships now, you will suffer temporarily but be able to overcome your enemies."
He then began ordering his men to perform several hours of martial exercises a day as well as drawing out the fleet in the order of battle and instructed the rowers and marines in naval tactics.
However, in keeping with the friendship between Phocaea and Greece, he left travelling Greek merchants alone
This being the oldest name I could find he's my thought on who Joy Boy was actually meant to be similar to since the Pirates seem to be in some cases.
Point is Wings of Icarus and a historical Pirate named similar to his pops seemed Sus enough I thought I would bring it up.
Plus the Greco-Persian War is like from the movie 300 right...? So seems like an interesting era for Joy Boys to be modeled around.
But yeah the groups associated with Pirates and therefore the Ancient Kingdom of One Piece are
Phoenicians
Illyrians
Tyrrhenians
Meditarian to Singapore was basically there area of influence between the 3.
My theory is joyboy ate the forbidden fruit and was banished from paradise...thus becoming the first pirate
Good theory. I thought of one with the forbidden fruit and the garden of Eden, but not this

The answers are there ...somewhere
I have been rereading them over and over ...
Being exiled to the sea for the crime of eating a devil fruit is a pretty neat concept tbh
You might be onto something
@@youngog9150 it isn't really a theory, it's more of a literary analysis. It's not a theory that Oda used the story of prometheus as the template for one piece, it's a fact. And we know it's a fact because Oda has finally provided the pieces of the puzzle to know that for sure. He didn't accidentally rewrite the story of Prometheus. The whole "void century" thing was a device so that Oda could slowly drop hints over the years and keep us guessing. There is still One Piece missing though, and that will be revealed on raftel (or wherever the gorosei have hidden the last poneglyph)
There is a ancient weapon based on punk records called Prometheus
Imma run with this for now especially after the recent. eternal and mother flame might be a dead giveaway
Imagine if we get a flashback to the void century and it looks like the 21st century lmao
But instead of people being grateful for that, they became fearful of this technology and destroyed the, now known as, Ancient Kingdom using their own weapons.
good gtheory
Prometheus also fills this role. Took the technology of gods and gave it to humanity. Stole that which power says they have no right.
Oda warning about the dangers of digital piracy lol
thats crazy cool I hope so!!
That would make sense if the WG carved the Poneglyphs.
@@MickAcethey didnt
Truman Show: Joyboy
Also the talk about information control is even more relevant as we move forward in A.I. as it all boils down to the data you train it on. Who is the arbiter of “good data”? How do you account for bias? Fun stuff
Joy Boy being the first pirate makes much more sense if he was born in kingdom in space, because no one had been down to the oceans yet...
Now Bink's sake has a lot more meaning, maybe Bink's was JB's real name ? And delivering his sake was his way of finishing his story ? Food for thought.
Feels like then the one piece would end up being sake which would be kinda disappointing
@@bigwex1805 I'm just curious. Why would it be disappointing?
@@bigwex1805Theres a hour long video by Artur that says exactly this. Its pretty compelling.
Lol
Edit 2: Your section about a flase reality reminded me of the movie The Village.
Some key points that are strong in my mind are:
1) the overall theme about resources being limited and fighting over them
2) the fact slaves still exist
3) the fact that seemingly ONLY the nefertari family knows anything about the past and everyone else only knows whatever the WG has been telling them
4) the fact that most places in the world seem primitive while the the ancient kingdom was far more advanced than even Dr Vegapunk
5) The world has been sinking little by little maybe even since 800 years ago
6) The fact that the WG panicked at Prof.
People rebelled and ended up supporting the wrong side (Crocodile)
In Skypea, people fought over the land which was also a limited resource.
We've actually seen this play out in dress rosa in a smaller scale, memory manipulation, reality manipulation, the birdcage.
The way you just paraphrased social media in just a few sentences is pretty scary and very fucking accurate bro this video is heat
i REALLY like this idea!! im not 100% certain how plausible Oda going the matrix route is but damn its such a cool theory! 💕
i also had an unrelated thought train that i wanna talk about lol here we go :3
so, Rocks D Xebec. Blackbeard clearly admires him, and that has a lot of interesting applications. if we learn what Rocks was all about, we could learn a lot about what Blackbeard plans to do as well :)
with that in mind, this thinking may be a bit too literal, but it explains something big. I think Rocks posessed the Mero Mero no mi - the Love Love fruit. It would give an explanation to how Rocks was able to gather such a powerful crew, since we don't exactly know what the fruit does yet! it could very well rally people to your side, as far as we know :3 (i also think it would be funny if his name was literal hehe)
To go a bit further, I think Blackbeard invaded Amazon Lily for the fruit - Rocks' power.
MU is LeMUria, but the way. Atlanteans destroyed them with nukes annunakis were the mastermind.
Joy boy theories making theories about Joy boy wow what a time to be alive
"Maybe call them Vikings or Bucanners"
Kuma already suffered enough. His race doesn't deserve to be called criminals.
A buccaneer irl was a pirate
It would fit right in with Kuma being know as a “Tyrant”
@@bigpokegaming5950 it was a special kind of pirate around in the caribbean
Kuma's race is all criminals. They are born to die or serve.
If the people were suffering due to the advanced technology, then I could see Joy Boy destroying it "by his own hands.".
yeah I slid that panel in there hoping people would get the connection lmao
great thought...
The theories, as always, are a stretch (like Ruffy lol).
And why does JoyBoy sound like WoodwardTV
I hope we're gonna get a Flashback from before the Void Century, to see how Joyboy looked like.
Got real 1984 on this one lol glad I had my tinfoil
My head canon is that Oda created the punk reality. Let that sit.
Nice use of Arsenal Gear Ambience Music, JB! That track is super underrated! :)
mgs2 is so good
Well, legally the word pirate stands for someone who commits crimes on high sea, meaning in a territory that has no affiliation with any state.
I think it is more wordplay.
Then the WG making pirates a bad word.
One piece is the matrix and luffy is neo , awesome !!
But also why Joyboy is against the Ancient Kingdom and is labeled a pirate instead of having an alliance with AK or been it’s King, which was what I previously thought Oda was going for
When we learned that JB was from the ancient kingdom, instead of creating it I thought “what would make luffy a pirate to a perfect society?”
Luffys definition of piracy is freedom, why would luffy rebel? There was no freedom. I like to imagine the ancient kingdom would be similar to the society in The Giver where choice and individuality is stripped
Very interesting! I was thinking 1984 where truth is fabricated to the citizens to control them. Any sort of freedom or individuality would cause the "Thought Police" to recondition you into a "law abiding" citizen.
i still support the peacemain vs morganeers. that joy boy was the first freedom pirate who defied the criminals and royals. both worked together to maintain a union that allows war, slavery, money, and other sinister purposes that maintained have and have not .
Sounds like Luffy
I’m beginning to think portions or maybe the entirety of the One Piece world are Oda’s RL nod to Australia being a former prison colony
I think Nika is a ancient entity that pre dates the void century and was killed by imu in the early part of the void century...
And that joyboy is the first inheritor of joyboy.s will and was the first and only mortal to threaten imu later on during the void century after imu took control
This would explain why imu wants to flood the world he realized Nika will keeps coming back in pirates so he decided to flood the world to kill the pirates
This would also mean that giant straw hat could be Nika,s not joy boys and that's nika,s grave
what if, there is ocean 900 years ago. but it was frowned upon to go to the ocean because it will disconnect you to the "punk records" 900 years ago.
I think it went down something like this : 1) Joyboy broke a law or custom of the Ancient Kingdom which resulted him being banished to the sea or was given a impossible task finish (like delivering sake to a place that never existed) 2)Joyboy began to travel throughout lands in search for that place and eventually was captured as a slave 3) he would became a symbol freedom for the slaves and escape 4)he would than gather up a crew full of former slaves or ppl he met during his adventures 5) he would eventually return back to the Kingdom and tell them what the outside world is like and there policy of isolationism has resulted in the ppl being continually oppressed 6) Ancient Kingdom goes to war with the world especially the 20 kingdoms
Btw this theory is supposed to mirror Fisher Tigers story a bit because I always thought his story was the essence of one piece
Something like that where maybe he thought it was one way because of a trusting nature, then they snake him out
japanese love to be pedantic. theres that to consider as well. first jolly roger to be raised was that of joyboy and his crew is the most sensible thing so far
My theory is that jb and homies were sake merchants prior to being framed by nerona family which forced them to become these outlaws
New Joy Boy video just dropped? Let’s fucking go!
hahahaahh wild pp
Joy boy was not the first pirate but was the first pirate with a bounty!
As always banger after banger. Genuinely believe you've consistently been one of the best One Piece creators on the platform and loved this video!
To expand on your ideas and others':
I've been toying more and more with the idea that for Oda to continue to deliver, the Void Century flashback may show a world not too dissimilar to our own current world, albeit more technologically advanced, which has gone dystopian/ a dark timeline of events that unfolds.
My only question is what would have made roger laugh once he arrived to laugh tale
I think you might be missing the whole thin Luffy is the reincarnation of JoyBoy and BlackBeard is the direct descendent of joyboy
that for which is earned like attitudes, triumphs over any and all materialistic fortunes inherited at birth or after death.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean
@@JoyBoyTheories the first part or the second part?
btw Hancock is Rayleigh's Daughter obviously
Woo! I been following your channel for years man keep up the good work!
Joy boy talking about Joy boy 🔥🔥
It's funny to watch your videos as an adhd because I always get distracted by the drawings or something you said and then I have to go back like 2 minutes to catch back up to what you're saying
Mr morj insisted on the failure of the raid and that didn't age well
Maybe the D in the name means Disconnected or something? They aren't able to connect to the ancient kingdom brain and that's why they were criminals?
Could IMU be the ancient kingdom brain gone sentient?
*Theory:*
What if the name of the ancient Kningdom was actually *ancient Kingdom* and the truth that this reveals is that not only it was erased during the void century but it was way older than anyone thought.
Luffy will change the meaning to the Word piracy from violent to a peaceful one
Ohhh Boy, thanks for bringin us such Joy!
"joy boy was the first pirate" - oda
"NOOO"
sigh.
Gotta remember you gotta be very technical. He was the first to be “called” a pirate
Ancient(advanced kingdom) AI?
All of One Piece was Oda's version of Ted Kacynzki's manuscript
Can we hope the original joyboy can be voiced by Keanu Reeves 😅 ?
The Will of Discovery 😎
so basically it was a infinite tsukoyomi 😂😂
we do know of the crimes done by the Don Quixotes enslaving the Tontattas tho so would that be in this Tron-like world or actually happening?
I like the idea of creating physical holograms, in the fight vs Kaido, luffy changed his body and the surroundings but doesn’t make anything resembling physical objects, later vs lucci he creates a pair of goggles to wear which I think is an evolution of his power without realizing it.
Is the ancient kingdom called ancient because it existed for a long time, or because it existed a long time ago?
Will we get a face reveal at the end of One piece ? As Always thanks for the video and the subtitles =)
This theory is absolutely genius 🎉
Now that's a flex 😁
Your idea of “No crime existed in the Ancient Kingdom because of a more advanced Punk Records” reminds of an anime by the name of _Pyscho Pass_.
17:00 came for the theory stayed for the brutally honest explanation on our society
29:43 So the moon is a literal satellite, vegapunk style.
Hollow Moon theory, the moon is the ancient kingdom's brain.
Crazy how one line from Vegapunk changes so much!
I think the blue prints influenced Franky to inventing using Soda as a power source similar to the way the mother flame was used in the weapons case.
Vikings were Templars so were the early pirates as is evidenced by the symbols and mythologies held by the groups, they are "the same rose by another name". The eight petals in fullest bloom
Watching this at 2x speed so i will be the first one to finish Watching this video
in the pilot concept of one piece or romance dawn was lawless pirates and heroic pirate. likely joy was the first pirate represent freedom
JB always cooking
I like the theory that everything is digital during the void century and that after its collapse all that info is gone. Like if youtube takes deletes a video and there's no og video left ita gone forever
You know the theory is going to be fire when you hear the MGS2 music kick in....KOJIMA!
You and dawn and dusk cooked today on Joyboy's origins, i agree in that the ancient kingdom was in a brave new world type scenario
Assuming that oda is basing the void century off of Plato's dialouges then Imu is the demiurge(Thoth or Tut) and was the King of Atlantis and Atlantis represents the ancient kingdom, Joyboy might of destroyed the ancient kingdom and its techology and recovered 2 of their 3 ancient weapons and 20 remaining families fled the ancient kingdom before it went down and moved to the red line and they enacted their revenge on Mu/Lemuria/Athens(Joyboys kingdom empowered by his Mother Flame) with the flood using Uranus and all the WG has left is onmyodo magic, yokai dfs and haki while the Ds have accumulated haki and imagination via inheirited will
4:43 i think that vegapunk said "first to be *called* a pirate" for this very reason
I know this might sound crazy but here is what i think
Ancient Kingdon was ruled by a king who had light light fruit
I had a similar thought but in my mind I thought what if the ancient kingdom was where Imu and the Gorosei came from. AKA the ancient kingdom was one of the 20 kingdoms.
Actually, I never thought that Joyboy was a pirate. Not until that last chapter.
Still, love it.❤
they talked about a flooding in the void century and that makes sense. if he broke the other moons - and they land on earth, the extra mass would cause the sea to rise! thus sinking the ancient kingdom!
