    The 32 ACP is actually a decent last ditch caliber which outperforms 22LR. 22 Mag, and 25 ACP when all are fired in short 2-3'' barrels lengths. However, the best upgrade for this design would be to find a way to have it chambered in 380 ACP without making it appreciably larger

      You think that's what you want, but you really don't. A 380 in this size would be miserable to shoot. It's obviously better than the 3032 because it has functional sights. The 3032 had crappy low-profile mousegun sights thay couldn't be removed or replaced and were basically meant to be ignored. Suppressor-height sights and even optics make sense for this gun if you believe in aiming your weapon at your target. The best option for the 3032 was aftermarket laser grips.
    Langdon Tactical announced a 3032 with a red dot mount about a week ago. I wanted one until I saw this (and they'll probably switch to a 30X LTT right away).
    Earlier 3032s had a notorious issue with the frame cracking. That was apparently fixed in later produced models, but the 3032 retained a reputation for low durability. That Beretta continued to demanded users use low-power .32 ACP ammunition to ensure reliability did not inspire confidence.
    On paper, the Kel-Tec P-32 is a superior carry gun in every way. It is much lighter and thinner, less expensive, and despite it's weaker materials and lower build quality it can handle more powerful .32 ACP ammo (readily available and normal among European manufacturers), which is very useful to wring more power from this little pistol in a self-defense situation. But the 3032 Tomcat had it's niche: it was a larger, more robust gun that was more fun to shoot.
    It's interesting that Beretta has chosen to keep the pistol in it's niche. The sales rep had nothing to say about reducing weight. I didn't notice giant hand-filling wood grips, but this is still like a Sig P365-380 or Ruger Security .380 or S&W 380-EZ: not the smallest and lightest .380s, but better shooters than the smaller guns like the Ruger LCP and Kel-Tec P3AT and still small enough to carry. For some people, the P-32 is too small. Or they want to have more fun at the range with their little pocket pistol and so they want something more customizable and better feeling and less like a utilitarian piece of cheap plastic. Maybe they're still waiting on the Kel-Tec P-32 LTT.
    The 30X will be only .32 worth carrying if you don't want a Kel-Tec. And while it's probably at least 50% thicker and heavier, it's still a tiny gun and is a more capable weapon. All the .32s on the market are dated (where are the double-stack mouseguns?), and I'm really happy to see one of the best manufacturers engineering a new superior .32 pistol. I am a great believer in .32s. i don't want a .380 in a pistol this small and light. .32 ACP has double the energy of .22LR and .25ACP. Commonplace FMJ .32 rounds are capable of deep penetration, and there are now good high-end defensive rounds available (like Underwood).
    I'm excited. I want one. The ultimate in deep concealment weaponry is still the P-32, but that's not what the 30X tries to be. It's trying to be a much better gun that's a lot more fun at the range. Something good to shoot, not just to carry. And still smaller than a J-frame revolver (which continues to be relevant as still significantly more reliable than any semi-auto of this size).
    So the 30X is a superior 3032. More durable, reliable, and it has superior and removable sights that offer a quick sight picture. Extended mags, threaded barrels, and maybe even muzzle breaks available. This would be a fun gun for competitions. It will be a great backup gun option, one of the very best ever. What's not to like? Beretta has worked to improve their products. Their tip-up barrel pistols remain popular and commonly used for both recreational shooting and self-defense. Now they made better versions. At least, that's the claim. But O believe Beretta can pull it off. Good job, Beretta. I hope to buy one of these pistols if they're as good as I hope they are.

      I love Berettas for their aesthetic and history, but I wonder if the commitment to the legacy open-top slide design is holding back some of these reimagined guns. The 30, 80, and 90 series guns all have slide widths that are massively thicker than any competitor's, and as a non-engineer I wonder if that's required for strength because the slide lacks structure across the open top. There is absolutely no other reason a single-stack 380 like the 80 series should be so thick, or why a 32 like the 30 series should be so massively chunky. I still love these guns, but I wish there were a way for Beretta to deploy some more modern engineering or metallurgy/materials science to retain the same iconic open-top design while slimming down these legacy designs.

    • @keithal1478
      @keithal1478 4 месяца назад +1

      Greetings. I am very familiar with the difference in chamber pressure. 380 ACP is 21k and 30SC is 50k. The case diameter of 380 ACP is .374" and the case diameter of the 30 SC is .342" So the difference could be added to the chamber and barrel wall thickness. The Pico is rated at +P from Beretta even though there is no +P SAAMI cartridge for 380ACP like there is for 9mm. Underwood Ammo makes a 380 ACP +P round that generates 296 ft-lbs which is just shy of the 347 for 30 SC. The Pico has a width of .7" and the Nano has a width of .9" and it fires 9mm Luger with a case diameter of .391". The PICO is hard to grip. Increasing the purchase of the grip for the longer 30 SC would make more ergonomic. The PICO grip is too short as well. Single stack of 8 rounds of the smaller diameter but longer 30 SC would greatly improved ergonomics. An extended +2 magazine would be useful as a home defense option and still satisfy the Commie-forniacs. No one makes this optimized pocket pistol in 30 SC which is an untapped market. A blend of the Pico and Nano with a .8" width, 8 round flush fit magazine and 3.25" barrel chambered in 30SC is what I envision for an ideal pocket carry. Screw a bunch of holsters. The PICO restrike feature is a must have feature. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.380_ACP en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.30_Super_Carry en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beretta_Pico underwoodammo.com/380-acp-p-65-grain-xtreme-defender/ www.thetruthaboutguns.com/gun-review-beretta-pico/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beretta_Nano @@crazyirishmedic9535

      Greetings. I realize this pistol is 32 ACP. I would rather carry hot Aguila 22LR than 32 or 25 ACP. If Beretta will spend this kind of money and engineering (essentially a new gun) updating a useless caliber MAYBE they would spend the same money on make a hybrid blend of the Pico and Nano in 30 SC for a real pocket pistol in a real caliber to meet a real need that no one is addressing. There are A LOT of people who pocket carry 38 spl 2.5" barrel, 5 shot revolvers. There are people like me who want to pocket carry something thin and modern. I am not interesting in holsters AT ALL ... not IWB, OWB Appendix or whatever. Heck if Beretta or someone would provide a pair of new blue jeans with 1" wider pockets with each new gun purchase, set up for holding a pocket sleeve and easier draw .... The market would go off like the P365 did several years ago. I hope Reeves or TFB someone reads these comments and tells Beretta to WTF up for the opportunity. Thanks for writing. @@Gieszkanne

    I'm just not sure if these smaller cat guns were really ready for a reboot, but each change is good. Moving the mag release is great, and having standardized THIN wood grips will hopefully make holster options easier, esp. as these aren't true pocket guns. These guns were updated back in the day to make them wider to avoid the frame cracking issue, which still didn't work. These ones seem to still be the wide model "fat cats", right James? I would love a clear answer on whether being "twice as durable" includes improve frame durability with all ammo. And one obvious thing, how about an extractor!!! That's the real reason I didn't buy a tomcat this Christmas, even with the nice rebate they were doing. You can have the most concealable gun in the world but no one wants to have to carry a ramrod to clear a stuck case for a CC gun. I'd love to see a Kel-Tec P32 with a manual safety, but the wood grips are just such a nice niche for Beretta to fill on pocket guns, j-frames are still quite bigger than a Tomcat iirc.

    • @rodneyalaking8241
      @rodneyalaking8241 4 месяца назад

      The P32 has a pretty long, heavy DA trigger pull. I pocket carry mine with a trigger guard instead of a holster. 7 plus 1, very light at 6.6 oz, and 100% reliable so far. Great back-up piece. Lack of a safety isn’t an issue IMO.

      How does the gun extract the cartridge without an extractor?

    • @LifeisGood762
      @LifeisGood762 4 месяца назад +4

      @palmereldritch1974 Blowback guns like this will launch the casing out of the chamber even without an extractor and with Berettas open slide design it ejects perfectly fine. The reason we still want an extractor is for keeping malfunction drills the same across all our pistols. When you have a bad round in the chamber on these, racking the slide doesn't pull the round out of the chamber.

    • @jimyeats
      @jimyeats 4 месяца назад

      Think about it….you can’t have a tip up barrel AND an extractor on the slide. If you want a small 32 with an extractor grab a Keltec or a Seecamp or NAA. If you want a tip up barrel get a Beretta.

    My Questions:
    Did they redesign the frame so it doesn't crack under regular usage?
    What does "double the durability" mean?
    Can it handle a steady diet of +P without self destructing?
    What about the 21A? Is it being updated?
    Question that almost certainly won't be answered: Will we see an 86X (AKA Tip up 80X series pistol) in the near future?
    Girsan has the new .380 ACP tip up market cornered at the moment and sadly they don't sell a threaded barrel variant in the US (probably due to import laws)

      @@MrLM002 Eh it's less an issue of making it look pretty, I could send any gun out for cerakote and DLC and gold electroplating or whatever if my mom wanted it. It's more a kneejerk brand snobbery thing. She's heard of Beretta, the fancy Italian brand that makes iconic military weapons and expensive heirloom shotguns. Goes nice with her Italian handbags and designer shoes. But Girsan, the Turkish manufacturer that makes clones of other designs? Not really her speed. For someone who is used to luxury and specifically not concerned with value, Beretta works where Girsan doesn't. Shrug.

    For the naysayers ; these guns will sell - I am talking the standard model . Most Beretta lovers/groupies will want one. Then there is the aging hobbyists - the over 70 years old crowd of long time pistol owners . They have gotten skinny and frail , cannot wear a holster due to elderly body shape or strength. These new mouse guns keep them in the hobby and are really sensible self defense carry guns . THe feature of never having to rack a slide , has always been known by true elderly hobbyists but now , things are more appealing with the ability to change out sights to assist elderly eyes and the ability to have increased capacity magazines .That standard configuration will not fly off the shelves , but its sales numbers should increase over the old standard imo

    I did not read through all the comments but I hope that Beretta addressed the FTF and FTE issues with the Tomcat .32acp. My Tomcat is still only fair in terms of reliability. It is very ammo picky, and I still get failures to eject even after 200 plus rounds through it. And I keep it clean and lubed. This was to be my wife's purse gun because she has limited hand strength, but I can't trust it to work for her if/when she needed it.
