Does anyone else love how genuinely delighted Christy is to read? So wholesome seeing you read those blurbs and watching the words light up your face. Some incredible stories on your TBR!🥰
I went to the Shakespeare and company in Paris and got Taming of the Shrew, my favorite Shakespeare play, in that same small gilded book style. I treasure it! Also parable of the sower is so good, you’ll love it!
Even though The Magician's Nephew is my absolute favorite Narnia book, I'm really not sure you should read it before Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, because as a prequel, MN is very much meant to explain certain details you should already know from LWW. However, the Narnia series is fun and you can feel free to read it in whatever order you feel like. MN in particular is interesting right now because I feel like "The Boy and the Heron" partially feels like an adaptation of it.
@@christy-anne-jones You're welcome! You can depart from the publication order a little if you want - Magician's Nephew and The Horse and His Boy are both a little outside the main chronology and you can just as easily read them right after LWW - I remember liking both of them a lot more than Prince Caspian. Good luck with your reading and your health!
I definitely agree with this - and I would also actually recommend reading in published order. Certainly how I read it as a child. One of my children was put off the series because the school got them to read MN first - while I enjoyed the book, I feel it is drier and less immediate than the rest. Kim
I'd definitely start the Narnia series from Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. It's crucial for the understanding of the whole concept of the series. And also, that was the order that Lewis prefered.
FYI if you're in the mood for an audio version, the Magician's Nephew read by Kenneth Branagh is so... well, well done. So, well done Kenneth and thank you Christy for this intriguing list.
I’m soooooo excited for you to give the Chronicles of Narnia a go!! I hope you love whichever book you end up starting with, it is a fantastic series ♥️
I loved The Ice Palace. It's very atmospheric. I'm interested to read more by Vesaas. I also love those two dresses you got - the style, and the colours!
Great video! There were a lot of books on your list I had never even heard of before, so I'll hopefully explore them soon! I have read 9/13 of The Series of Unfortunate Events so I want to read the last four books this year! (also that Little Women edition is so pretty
Never knew wild sergasso sea was something like a prequel to jane eyre, one of my favorite books to ever exist. I have that one staring at me for ages and I guess it's time to read WSS
Days at the morisaki bookshop was a fun, pleasant read! I found it at my local bookshop a few months ago and got it based on the back description (and ngl the cover) and I really had a fun time reading it. Definitely recommend!
I was that weird kid who read Victorian novels for fun in elementary school. Then I took a class in Caribbean lit in college and Wide Sargasso Sea was one of the books and I was obsessed with it for the longest time. It felt like those moments when you suddenly realize as an adult that something about your childhood was completely different than what you always thought it was. I still randomly think about that book even though it’s been years since I last read it. If anyone has recs for similar novels, please share!
I teach 5th grade and I have read The Bad Beginning as a read aloud to my classes for more than 10 years. The kids get totally sucked in, and the series stays checked out from the library. I will admit that I seem to notice something new that I’ve not before each time I read it. We also read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as a novel study. I agree with others that The Magician’s Nephew might be a little confusing if read first. Great choices on your TBR list.
Girls are coming out of the woods is one of my favourite poetry collections and I never hear anyone else talk about it! I really hope you like it! I also think you'd really enjoy Jinx by Abigail Parry - it's a poetry collection inspired by magic and mischief ✨🎭
Some very interesting reads. If i could recommend a book, it would be Breakfast at Tiffany's. Such a well written novella. Hope everyone has a blessed day!
The Gracekeepers has been on my TBR for awhile now, so I can't wait to hear what you think of it :) Wide Sargasso Sea is a weird one. I read it a number of years ago and I'm still not sure I actually liked it? But it was certainly an interesting exploration of why Mrs. Rochester was the way she was in Jane Eyre.
I don't remember much about The Gracekeepers but I remember LOVING it. I think I need to reread this. It's been a while since I've last read a magical realism book!
omg! I adore the magician's nephew! you should also check out the 1988 BBC TV series for Narnia if you can get your hands on it! They're like extended movies and did a number of different books that the more recent ones didn't cover. Even if you don't want to read the entire series, I'd highly recommend the radio adaptions as well lol The gracekeepers sound so interesting as well. Thanks for putting it on my radar ☺
The Magician's Nephew is good, but even if you don't love it you should give the rest of Narnia a try because the prequel feels different and parts of it don't make sense until you've read the rest of the books.
Sounds amazing! Now I also want to read these books. Do you make a reading plan for the whole year at once? How do you manage to limit this list? What do you do when sudden impulses arise to read something else, and more, and more?
I read what I feel like, when I feel like it :) these are just the books I'm most excited for right now. In my experience, I tend to read 70% of the books from my TBR at the start of each year (and then I read the rest in following years) 💛
I need to know your thoughts on Magician's Nephew once you finish it, because that book has stuck with me since childhood and I think you will really enjoy certain things about it.
*adding books about circuses and fairies to the tbh list* Thank you for the video. After finishing The Fragile Threads of Power (with the second book yet to come out), I really need other magical worlds to dive into.😆
Strange Beasts of China sounds interesting to me. I should check that up. You may have already known it, there's a sequel to Days at the Morisaki Bookshop that's coming out in July titled More Days at the Morisaki Bookshop. I think you'll love it. Also, have you heard of Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan? It's a retelling inspired by the Mid-Autumn Legend (Chinese) and I've just finished it. I have a feeling it could be something right up your alley.
I really enjoyed The Idiot, I read it about 4 years ago. I haven't yet read the sequel. Ooh you've made me want to read Narnia and Lemony Snicket with my kids 😊
Who remembers lemony snickets film was so cool haha , if its book is as macabre i imagine it being very entertaining they did a series on it too , it was always abit unsettling and quite tim Burton esque 🖤
The Ice Palace it's just beautiful, I wanted to make a little comic about it, because the imaginary it's marvelous, one of my favorite books. The Morisaki Bookshop it's told in a wonderful prose, the only thing that I didn't like was how the author portrayed the character of Momoko, because it has a lot of gender bias. Hope you like both books!
I am a follower for a while, but I wonder if you read Bunny by Mona Awad? You made me read The Secret History and I loved it. Maybe you would like this one.
if you're interested in how people get into cults, Cultish by Amanda Montell is fantasticccc!! she studies the language that these cults use and how the language influences our minds before the ideas do!!! highly recommend

Oh man, that cult book! I was in a cult in my early adulthood. High control groups are interesting and I love looking into the research to help process and understand my actions as a young adult.
I love Japanese literature, but "Days at the Morisaki Bookshop" was the worst book I've read last year. I found the main character annoying and dialogues so bad that I laughed out loud 😅

I disagree, I would read The Magicians Nephew first as it's explains the world to be. Read it in the order you want to!
You’re good at books and writing. I love books, writing casts and lists of songs and even typing stories on computers.
I'd definitely start the Narnia series from Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. It's crucial for the understanding of the whole concept of the series. And also, that was the order that Lewis prefered.
Thank you for the advice! 💛
Yes, I've read them all, that one is my favourite.
I read them in that order too, they are wonderful - it's worth reading them all in that order indeed. xxxx
I love the lemony snicket books! I'm actually rereading The Bad Beginning right now!
I've been rereading a favorite childhood series this years and it has been pure magic!
FYI if you're in the mood for an audio version, the Magician's Nephew read by Kenneth Branagh is so... well, well done. So, well done Kenneth and thank you Christy for this intriguing list.
I’ll check it out!
The Magician’s Nephew is my favorite Narnia book! There’s one specific setting that I’d love to explore in my writing. Maybe I’ll reread it with you!
Hi Christy..I would love to see a reading vlog of "Little women" from you..😊
I’m soooooo excited for you to give the Chronicles of Narnia a go!! I hope you love whichever book you end up starting with, it is a fantastic series ♥️
A Series of Unfortunate Events is so central to my childhood 😅 I adored these books
I can’t begin to tell you how much you make me love books and writing. You are so genuine.
The cover of "Gracekeepers" is gorgeous!
omg macbeth is my favorite shakespeare play too! hope you enjoy your reread :D

Days at the morisaki bookshop was a fun, pleasant read! I found it at my local bookshop a few months ago and got it based on the back description (and ngl the cover) and I really had a fun time reading it. Definitely recommend!
I cannot stress how beautiful the Little Women series is. Louisa May Alcott is an amazing author!
Ooh, some very intriguing reads ✨
Adding some of these picks to my TBR - thank you for sharing!
I'm so glad you told us about Jen Campbell! She is now my favorite poet!!!
Oh good!! I love her (she is both a very talented poet and writer and just a lovely human being as well!)
@@christy-anne-jones I totally agree!! I love her youtube channel!!
I'm glad you're ready to start reading 《Days at the Morisaki Bookshop》, trust me you'll love the story when you're done!
i always find the books you mention very interesting! thanks for sharing ❤
What an amazing coincidence I’m reading Parable of the Sower right now! I’m halfway through. It’s my first Octavia Butler book
I love those dresses!!!
Omg! I love A Series Of Unfortunate Events and have also reread the series as an adult. I love the Baudelaire siblings.
Christy Anne Jones almost sounds like Indiana Jones! Lol 😆, have a great week ahead of you. Never stop reading and writing. You are the best!

I've had The History of Bees on my shelf for ages! Hopefully I'll get to it this year as well 😊

I recently read "The King of Elfland's Daughter" and you can see how much it influenced Gaiman's "Stardust".
I’m against reading the magicians nephew out of print order however it is my favorite book so I’m super excited

Ah!!! Love little women so much!!! If you enjoy it I would definitely recommend eight cousins, rose in bloom and rose
I've been wanting to read The Wide Sargasso Sea.
Also we have the same taste in books except I’m not into Japan. But mythic, folkloric, fantasy and the like is my thing!
I'm really curious about the parable of the sower!

Hello there hey there hey
First
