I'm thinking of starting fencing, here in the west of Ireland it hasn't been very popular since they stopped fencing to kill eachother I always think epée's incredibly strategic gameplay is very cool but then I see shit like this and I think maybe saber is more exciting even if it takes more skill to view Do Epée fencers even like the sport? guys why are you showing up if you don't want to fence
heyy. I came across your channel some time ago and I have probably watched your videos on player freedom and Permadeath in RP games 10 times each. and an image of three labels you have in some of those, usually where you say "the pillars of a great MMO" one being power to the players one being permadeath but the last pillar "story driven" I do not understand. you have a dedicated video that explains that one? I just can't help feel that story driven would conflict with the players making their own stories. like how in WoW, the players didn't kill Onyxia, some guy in a book/comic did and that's the cannonical death of Onyxia. and ever since Blizzard can't help themselves putting their powerful NPCs into every big raid. to be the actual guy that kills the big bad. Thrall killing deathwing for example. would love to know your take on the whole thing :)
Well, players are limited in terms of the stories they can create, especially in older games without advanced base-crafting and terraforming, that's why we have Dungeon Masters that encourage and reward roleplaying & good stories and may assist players in their advancing their stories. Also, DM's can create truly spectacular metaplots on larger scales that players can't dream to create on their own. So when I say "story-driven" I refer to the philosophy of the server itself and the DM's in creating such stories and engaging the players in them; the players will still obviously have their own separate stories and localized drama, after all there's no max capacity on stories whether it's initiated by players or DM's. In fact, DM-driven storylines and players-driven storylines have been existing side-by-side in PW's such as Haze for a long time, sometimes even coinciding creatively. But as said players alone can only do so much, especially in NWN, for truly grander scale metaplots you absolutely need DM's. I predict future RP servers like Haze may not be as dependent on DM's for creating epic stories considering advanced base-building crafting and even chatGPT-based NPC's... should be an exciting future for RP servers
Love the style, well done!
I love listening to stuff like this!
