If you ever have a shell go off and it just kinda pops and doesn’t go Boom or sounds funny and pellets kinda flop out of the end of the barrel don’t rack another and shoot it again. It’s no bueno. The shot cup or aka wad gets stuck in there causing a bad barrel blowout. I was young and didn’t know any better at the time but I sure learned my lesson. My barrel looked like the one in this video after just one shot

I accidentally had this happen to me but fortunately when I shot it went off with no issues.

Carry a piece of brass to drop down a barrel after a funny sounding shot... flexible or takedown cleaning rod is a must have in your shooting kit...

After dropping my shotgun in the mud and Mack while duck hunting one year, I started always keeping an Otis Ripcord handy to avoid this very problem. They’re small and easy to carry and clear blockages in a few simple pulls.

I bulged a barrel shooting after some mud got stuck in there. Expensive lesson!

I've seen similar tests before. The conclusion seems to be that no obstruction is good, but the closer to the muzzle, the worse. In that test, the gun survived the 20 over 12 test pretty much as your mud at the breach shot. Thanks for a cool video.

Plug it with snow. I have have had that happen several times while rabbit hunting in the winter. I always cleared the barrel, but would be interested in seeing if it has the same effect as the mud.

I have seen 2 shotguns that had snow packed in the barrels both split and I also saw another shotgun that was shot using #6 shot Remington high brass with snow in the barrel that was unfazed and oddly all 3 of these shotguns were Mossberg 500s. I don't know if the snow was packed harder in the blown barrels nor do I remember the temperatures of the air that may have made a big difference in the shot clearing the obstruction or the barrel bulging/blowing?
I stopped one day, many years ago at an Amish gun shop with a friend of mine who is now deceased but my buddy was looking for damaged barrels for a Mossberg 500 and/or a Remington 870 as my friend would check the length of damaged barrels and he would buy the barrels that he could cut back to 20" and then chuck the barrels into an old Monarch lathe that his dad bought before my friend was ever born but my friend would "Wrap a slight radius" in the end of these 20" barrels, hit them with emory cloth, grab some slugs and then walk out behind his barn and shoot them at milk jugs filled with water at 50 to 60 yards
My friend would call these shorter than normal barrels his "Brush Busters" that can be used for deer in the heavy brush spots in our area AND he would use these "Brush Buster" barrels for rabbit hunting with beagles.
All he did was drill and tap a hole and put a cheap gold bead on the end of the barrel and surprisingly some of those barrels would throw a slug like it was shot out of a rifle. Since this was all before rifled barrels or rifled chokes were a thing my friend would make some pretty good "Mad Money" by selling some of these "Hillbillied Barrels" to guys he worked with as an iron worker
I miss my childhood friend as he died from a blood clot at age 32 one day at work while he was working a shutdown at a big steel and bearing plant but I will always remember the big grin on his face when he would shove a handful of bills that he made from one of his barrels into an old tin coffee can that had "MAD MONEY" written on both sides of the can and stick that coffee can on a shelf with other canned goods
I asked my friend one time why he put the coffee can with "MAD MONEY" in big letters on both sides up on a shelf where if some low life(s) broke in the can of money would be easy pickings and he replied "Low life thieves aren't in the habit of reading the contents of cans and jars on a shelf" and I smiled at that and I replied "What if they are hungry?" and at that he smiled and said "You SOB you always have to have the last word don't ya?" and a few weeks later he was gone
ETA: I forgot to add that as a kid rabbit hunting on Thanksgiving Day was a big tradition in my area. One Thanksgiving I was 10 or 11 years old and my dad invited one of his "City Friends" that my dad used to work with to come down and hunt rabbits with our group of guys and beagles
The guy showed up and the first thing I noticed was that this guy was late 50s or early 60s and my dad was mid 30s so my little brain couldn't fathom guys having older friends but when we were out hunting this "Old Fella" slipped down a snow covered "Spoil Bank" that was steeper than it looked coming down from the RR track and then the spoil bank shooting right back up into some lighter brush and spotty patches of multiflora rose
Well this old timer slid to the bottom, got up, cleared the shell from his 20 gauge Remington pump that predated the Remington 870 but he cleared the shell and mag tube, took the barrel off and blew through it, looked around and went over to a scrawny sapling, cut it and ran it down his barrel, reassembled his pump gun, winked at me and said "She's ready to go again" but I never saw anything fall from the barrel as I would glance at the guy and then back into the brush as the bawling beagles got closer to us
The "Old Friend" stopped coming down as my dad said that he was sick
A year later my dad came home from work with an old, but great condition Remington pump shotgun and i THINK it was a Model 29? but it was old and definitely predated the 870 but my dad said that his old friend had died and this guy told his other neighbor/friend that when he died he wanted my dad to have this shotguns because his son was not a hunter or even cared for guns.
A year later my dad comes home and the first thing he did was walk in and grab the old shotgun. My mom asked if he was going hunting and he said no, but someone was coming to pick the gun up.
An hour later some guy pulls into our driveway, knocks and dad lets him in and the first thing my dad said to the guy was "Well there it is by the door" and at that the guy picked up the shotgun and then said "I was wondering where this shotgun got to and then one day I told dad's neighbor that I think someone stole dad's shotgun!" the neighbor/friend told the son that he gave it to my dad per his dad's instructions
Well this son came to get his dad's shotgun but my dad said to the guy's son "Are you going to rabbit hunt with that gun because it is a sweet rabbit roller" and the son said "No, I detest hunting and guns but I was telling a guy about my dad's guns and the guy offered to buy them all off of me and I sold them all to the guy and when I found out that you had this gun of dad's I called the guy and asked if he wanted to buy it and he said yes he wanted the shotgun"
At that my told told the son "Hey well there she is and I would love to talk but I got to get a move on and brush hog my lower pasture" and the son left with the shotgun. My dad didn't have to brush hog anything as he brush hogged the lower pasture a few weeks earlier. My dad just wanted this guy out of the house and off of the property and that is what happened and my dad never mentioned that gun or the son again, even when he was talking about his old friend

Many years ago while watching a trapshooting squad there was an explosion. One of the competitors shooting a Winchester o/u had the gun explode one barrel flew about 25 yards down range and the other barrel dropped to the ground near him. He was only slightly hurt the person next to him in the line was also hurt, but not seriously. The cause of the accident was apparently a stuck plastic wad, in the bottom barrel.

Can you do one for the guys that reload? Ramp up the powder charge until bad things happen.
Buddy of mine accidentally double charged a reload. Locked the gun up, had to send it in to be fixed.

Интересное видео! Но хотелось бы знать, сколько этот ствол выдержит, если из него стрелять без грязи. С моим ружьем такая же проблема. Раздуло ствол. Интересно знать, можно ли из него стрелять?

What a waste of a perfectly good barrel.
I could have told you sitting from here that the barrel will explode if you have mud inside.
