  • I wanted to know if there really is anything to the phono mod on the LP-120. So I took a good long look at exactly what happens to the phono audio before and after the mod.
    Wow that was a much longer video than I had planned to make. But hopefully being thorough in my explination of the turntable will help make it clear why there is a problem and what exactly changes when you fix it. It would have been easy to avoid this problem if the switch had instead was used to control the input for connect the phono out to the DRV602 or the RCA out instead of switching the output. If you don't care about the lack of differential stereo output, it might be possible to modify the PCB to work that way instead.
    The final results of the comparison amount to:
    Stock phono out: Reduces volume above 3kHz
    Line out: Mostly fine, may have slight reduction in mid tones
    USB: Must be set to line or else has all the flaws of phono
    Modded phono: Perfect, because that's how it works.
