I remember when Teairra Mari and Rihanna released their albums. I'd just graduated High School. I thought Teairra Mari was going to blow up! They definitely did her wrong. When she started releasing music in the late 2000's/early 2010s after she was dropped from Roc-A-Fella, I wished she would've kept going. I don't think LHH helped. She's so talented and beautiful. I hope something great comes her way soon. I think she recently performed somewhere. Now that Artist are releasing independently, I hope she would consider releasing music again.

Rihanna was diffently unique. She stood out like Aaliyah, and Selena did. You wouldn't typically find their voices in other singers. People would say the distinctness of their voices would mean they couldn't sing. I actually love singers who stand out. Beyonce s voice also can't be masked into the traditional tones. So picking Rihanna was a good choice based off of creativity. Her voice definitely helped make her hits hit.

There was nothing about Rihanna that stood out when Pon de Replay was released. She had on baggy pants and a small top similar to Aaliyah and TLC (Crazy Sexy Cool era). She sounded like she was talking instead of singing. Nothing new or original. However, she was more marketable than Teairra. Rihanna was from the islands with an accent and let them bleach her skin. Not to mention the alleged affair with her boss and prostitution with other exec's and Hollyweird folk. In that industry, it's about who you'll screw to stay afloat.
