If it can be manipulated, it *might* be manipulated, and even if something isn't manipulated whatsoever, you'll still have people who call it manipulated anyway - rarely can anyone say an auction either 100% was or wasn't maniped in some way.
And you may find this crazy, but there are people right now arguing that ZANDG is "a joke" to have cancelled this auction and "who cares" if people are bidding on their own stuff, etc. "It's business", being used as a justification.
Now one thing that could have actually happened with this auction: let's say the seller wins his own game on consignment. The seller could have paid on ebay and willingly lost thousands of dollars in fees etc, had they won their own game (or does eBay cap at $750 for games?). Realistically, if they did that, then fair game. They were the highest bidder and paid the same as anyone else.
OR, do you think it would have coincidentally went unpaid on the second alt account...?
Given everything, it baffles me that anyone would argue that this auction didn't deserve to be cancelled and the seller banned from the consignment service.
Patience is key. It could be an upward trend of $5000 or not. But if it's common like most psa 10s just bid on the next one. I've been collecting strying to build a graded switch collection. I see $190 etc. But I got Pokemon Arceus, Pokemon mystery dungeon dx and Detective pikachu 2 in 9.8 A++ for $129 a piece. Basically grading costs
If someone is arguing about this and you find yourself arguing back, I'd say it's time for bed 😂😂😂😂😂
Today is Shill Awareness Day ✊
Pretty much haha
Meanwhile Greg is in the background liking this video, just shillin' things up.
Legit though, the fact that everything bought online should be held to a high suspicion. Auctions, especially when you're dealing with collectables/investment items, I always assume everyone is an asshole that's bidding me around, and hard limit anything I go into. Not perfect, but so far so good.
7 of these video comments are just my alt accounts 👀
(Is he kidding!?)
When I'm bidding on an item I always go in knowing my max price and stick to it. It can be dangerous bidding on emotion and keep up with (shill) bids.
The best point made is, if an item gets shilled up to a ridiculous amount and someone actually buys it, then say someone sees that sale and lists their copy and another person buys it for near the price of the inflated item previously sold. You have a new market for the item. As long as people continue to believe the item is worth the value people paid for it then that’s what it’s now worth. This concept pisses off people so much, until the bubble pops that’s the market value, often the bubble deflates but never bursts.
This is why I determine my max well ahead of the end of auction and make one bid at close. Either i get it or i dont. No chance for emotions to get involved and push me higher.
This is the proper way to do it.
Buy It Now - Make an Offer = No Fraudulent Behaviour... :)
I hate the sellers that will do a $10 starting bid and also offer a buy it now option but that price is $100.
Just manipulated results when eBay shows the BIN price and not the actual offer price 😅
@@GetTheGreg Higher Prices for eBay means Higher Final Value fees... It's all in the math lol
@@jbouchard1780 They like shill bidding, but don't even think about bid rigging. They have zero tolerance for it.
@@Jfscloud723 What is bid rigging?
Early bidders baffle me. Like, just set a dang alarm on your phone for 2 minutes before the end of the auction and see if the current price is at or below where you'd be comfortable to place that last-second bid and shoot your shot.
Exactly, be the 1st and/or last bid, the rest is noob bidding.
Sometimes I’ll bid on an item in the middle of an auction , the minimum increase , so that eBay will send me notifications when I get outbid and reminds me to watch the end of the auction . More notification that just following the auction
Actually eBay restricts your account for 7 days and threatens to permanently ban you for shill bidding lol
good video , can you do a video comparing cgc and wata grading scales
These auction sites should require a valid ID to have an account, which could help at least some. Unfortunately, all they care about is getting their cut.
There is 1 specific ebay seller of retro games, who has decent pics, nearly always states *factory mint* in the listing, even when it usually isn't even in near mint condition...I'd be willing to make a small wager that those listings are shilled to the hilt, as they nearly always sell for 2x or more than a listing with a similar conditioned cib from other sellers.
"Terms 21. The Auctioneer, its affiliates, or their employees consign items to be sold in the Auction, and may bid on those lots or any other lots."
Is it so much to ask to just have an honest auction?
Yes.
In the world of business it’s not what’s right or wrong but what they can get away with.
🍆Excellent video! This is one of those topics that's common sense and no-brainer to the experienced among us, but surprising (?) to beginners and outsiders lol... also, where's da ribbed sword-kun and da Japanese GameCube Sims game thooo :P
📈📈🥵
I have bid on low starting bid games on Ebay with zero watchers that close to the end one bidder will show up and start driving up the price. When that happens I just let it go.
I hate when people look at one price to determine the value of something lol
I just started selling graded games on eBay. Shilling just sounds super scummy.
Also, I was afraid of people simply not paying after an auction was done. So far, everyone has paid.
Good to hear it's been positive for you so far!
Good video.
Sealed games are stupid.
Appreciate the analysis!
I can't tell you how many times I've been sniped on eBay. A lot of times I've suspected it to be shill snipes because I'll bid right around market value (or even a little more) and it smells like the sellers are trying to push max bids up as high as they can.
At least when you lose on a snipe you can't get emotional and keep bidding haha
@@GetTheGreg This is very true lol
As a seller, someone new to eBay told me they wanted to make a BIN offer on an auction I had going, with bids. I said I couldn’t and they pleaded that “but fake bidders will take it from me 😢” and I checked the other high bidder and no, it was a real person. At the end of the day everyone even normies are becoming so aware of fraud that even they know to be cautious. Crazy!
Great PSA @getthegreg ! I'd love to do one of these with you sometime. They're great for educating hobby enthusiasts!
Link to the Z&G video please
Oh come on old man!
Individual shill bidding: Unacceptable
Corporate shill bidding: Normal
For the record, both are bad but it's funny how when coporations do it nothing happens but when an individual does it it gets articles and is news.
Google about PWCC and their removal from eBay due to shill bidding. That's probably the biggest corporate level scandal I can recall in recent years.
Z & G is the eBay auction 🐐
In Z we trust 🫡
Great video, dude! You are correct! It's super easy to spot schilling activity, and it happens all the time, unfortunately.
And some people even defend it and genuinely just do not care whatsoever. It's the wild west out there sometimes haha.
Made that mistake with a rare plush. Put a bid at $1000 before it closed. Someone outbid me and I lost it. I should have stuck to my sniper that I always use. Live and learn.
Rare plushes and the prices they bring always surprises me haha. Seeing stuff like plushes be expensive makes me feel better about spending a ton of money on games I don't play haha.
@@GetTheGreg I spent 5 years looking for it. It was new with tags. I did eventually find one for $100. Didn't think to set up a text alert instead of relying on eBay's own alert. My wife was ecstatic that I finally found the plush she had when she was a kid. And I have a full set.
What is it, out of curiosity?
@@GetTheGreg it's a dinosaur from the Manhattan Toy Company. It was released in the 80s as a boutique designer plush for FAO Schwarz. Similar to how cabbage patch dolls were first introduced. The one she had was a blue T-Rex. There are six in the set. They're made of velour so they're really soft. But they're really simple; primary colors, black eyes and simple features.
