For those complaining: This is the equivalent of a human mom in the kitchen and the kid is screaming for attention on the other side of the baby gate set up in the kitchen entrance
She left him on his stomach because she was teaching him to swim. She would have put him on his back if she just wanted him to float. When he finally does it she grabs him and kisses him! That was his first time to do it, you can tell by how awkward he is. It was amazing seeing a first like this. 2:14 is when he finally moves his legs a little. 2:23 he starts moving his arms and mommy sees it!
@@ag.j6021 "Wouldn't walking come naturally" is the same logic. Like, ya, but it obviously is gonna take a few weeks or months. Same with this cute little baby otter.
@@ag.j6021 Just because something “comes naturally” doesn’t mean they don’t still have to be taught and encouraged by mommy to do it. That’s why baby otters have to stay with their mommies for a year after they’re born. Some otter species’ pups don’t even like the water at first and have to be dragged by the neck into the water and dragged down when being taught to dive. There are some funny videos of otter mamas having to chase their babies around to get them in the water. And once they’re in there they swim right back to shore and get out, so the mama has to do it over and over again. Lol
If you ever see an baby otter floating alone and crying, PLEASE don’t “rescue” it. It’s not lost; it’s mother is just underwater eating. Same goes for most seals as well. They can’t swim yet, but parents still need to eat, and they’ll often be left alone on the beach while mom finds food. Their parents are skittish and will abandon babies if humans get too close.
I agree. I really think some of these “abandoned “ baby otters people are rescuing are really just temporarily left by mom . People have good intentions but sometimes I wonder if they were really separated from mom
@@MekkaSG This actually applies to a lot of "rescued" baby animals, though far from all. In some cases the mother is right there and people don't see her. That said, if the baby animal is injured or in immediate danger, some form of human intervention is necessary even if the mother is around.

This is one of the best otter videos I have ever seen (and I am an otter FREAK, lol). What a great job you did of capturing this moment for us all! Thank you!! :)
Hands down one of my top favorite animal videos of ALL time!!!! This is adorable natural behavior and we are fortunate to get to see them like this in their habitat.

Oh my my! How stinken CUTE. I've never ever heard something so adorable as this in my life. Sure, sea otters are known for drowning immediately when in the water. How did they ever survive as a species?
Skye. Hehehe that was a funny comment, and it was just like that
@Little Foot It wasn't drowing. Theres no way the mother would've let it happen. Baby could float on its own and the mom was perfectly aware of that.
