- This is the story of Faelen the Wolfdog’s first year of life- Full of adventure, challenges, training, happiness, and plenty of adorable videos!
Faelen is a wolfdog, an animal selectively bred for many generations to look like a wolf, yet be better adapted for life alongside humans. Faelen is being raised as a companion animal primarily, but also works as an ambassador for other Wolfdogs and wolves, as well as a model for photography and film. I hope you enjoy this behind the scenes look at our first year together!
**Wolfdogs are challenging and demanding companion animals, and should only be owned by experienced and competent dog owners. Wolfdogs are not good family dogs, not protective, and are often more like cats or toddlers than dogs. Always do the proper research before considering wolfdog ownership as they are not a good fit for the vast majority of people. I love wolfdogs but don't want one for myself. A lot of people really don't realize how much work they are. Your boy is lovely, can really see all the effort put into training.
Yeah, I for one couldnt handle a labrador.
I got a high content hybrid and he’s literally the love of my life. We get remarks all the time about how he looks like a wolf.. people can’t understand what he bond because he isn’t exactly like a dog. Definitely very high maintenance and not for everyone. We love him so very much! He’ll be 14 in August.

@@KingOfNothingLR Thank you, same to you! we lost him July 2, 2021 at 14.5 years olds. Dogs can truly break your heart when they have to leave you but id do it again a million times over because he was a major part of our family and forever will be. I got him at 18 and immediately, he was my first roommate and my first love. From then on we were inseparable. I got married very shortly afterwards, had my daughter, then a son.. bought a house, traveled… all with him by our side. I was 8 months pregnant with my third when we lost him. I miss him terribly and some days are still hard, even more than a year later but that’s the price we pay for having such amazing, wonderful animals in our lives. He was truly incredible. Thank you for give me a moment to mention him again ❤️
@@itsjustmyopinionbut1671 I'm greatly sorry that you lost him, but I'm glad you got to spend such a long time with him I'm sure he was very wonderful. It truly heartbreaking when there's a loss of a pet, it's just like losing a family member- I've had many losses I understand.. best wishes to you and your family.

I had a beautiful pure white wolf dog growing up, when you literally grow up with a Dog you develop a close bond with them

I like how you showed the best parts of the wolf-dog but also all the hard work that goes into making sure that they aren't a danger to themselves and others. I wish you would see that more often with regulars dogs as well too.

Yeah we,vets have bigger paws, but he is part dog so a bit smaller than the average wolf

it's impressive to see Faelen walk off leash and come back when you call as far as i know that is not something most wolfdogs tend to do. Btw is Faelen a NorthAID dog? I heard that type of wolfdog has the most relaxed personalty

Wow when he was running around in the Canyon you can definitely tell he still has a lot of wolf in him the way he is walking and how large his paws are
One of the most beautiful wolf ever seen and his temperament is absolutely amazing for how high energy they are great work. My aunts husband had one exactly like this color and we were only able to be around him when his master was there and OK for us kids to be there. He was extremely powerful and so majestic and I cried like crazy when he passed away. Malamute and mexican Grey wolf he was named Tanka . Lived 14 years. Amazing animals

He's not your average dog always remember he's part wolf so you need to respect his nature and natural instincts. More time more energy and more effort is required. The person in the video has done a great a job in raising this gentle beast. Can't wait to see when he turns into an adult. The glory and beauty of a wolf will truly shine when he enters his prime.

Thank you for the disclaimer at the beginning. Most can't even care for a dog, let alone a wolf hybrid.
Agreed. My dad and step mom never watched the one dog and made us “children” do it. That’s fine but I made complaints such as they need walks and such and she said she did not trust us which was them projecting onto us. Not even allowed to play tug of war. My actual mom let me walk the dogs and do activities . I walked a Doberman and Rottweiler at the same time as a 14 year old. My step mom treats the one dog we have now like a baby.

Such a good woofy 🥰🥰. It's a good thing he has a pack. I always wanted a wolfdog, but couldn't stand the idea of it not having all is wolfie needs met so I opted for my beautiful Siberian husky instead. He's still plenty wolflike and I love him to bits! 🥰🥰 :]

I wish more people who plan to nring a dog (any breed) home would attempt a little research on the pros & cons of the breeds they like. It is a family member w special needs. Each breed has challenges & incredible rewards. You are doing what's best for your family & for Faelen. Thank you for loving him.

You really take your time with them that's great and you can see how he is a bit more dog but has the wolf in him loved watching him play with the smaller dogs so sweet how he was so gentle

When Kali my wolf dog passed away after 18 years our bond was so close I almost went with her. They are scary smart and have the potential for incredible violence. When she exploded the first time it was a bit scary but I knew what I was getting into. A good breeder will make sure you know what you are doing before selling you a pup.

Wolf dogs are incredible animals, but I have neither the space, time, or money for one… it’s a bummer since they seem like amazing companions!
Faelen also seems like a very gentle and playful boy, and he has a lot of floof!

Actually, wolf dogs are amazing family pets. They are the most loyal animal you could get. If you are a breeder start bottle feeding them so they get used to humans. Also if you have kids or grandchildren let them play with the pups when they are youn so they get used to kids and not to bite kids

Unfortunately, this is not true. Real wolfdogs are not loyal or gentle or good with kids. They are very high maintenance exotic animals that have the potential to be dangerous, even just by accident.

Faelen must be brave as our dog seems to hate getting wet or at least hate going out after it’s rained and the ground is still wet.

I hope my two boys are half as well behaved as your good boy. I got two litter mates from a family friend and it turned out that they are part wolfer. Very high maintenance and jealous puppies but I love em dearly and couldn't imagine not having them. There are 7 months old the 21 of October and I can't wait to see how big they get when fully grown

They are definitely NOT a guard or protection dog! they are naturally very shy and skittish, and will not protect their family over themselves.
I just adopted a "dog" from the shelter that looks a lot like this wolfhound. The fur is not only black but black / white / gray. The whole behavior shows there is still a wolf in him but nobody in the shelter told me that beforehand.
