Pixel was my top pick for cameras up to the Pixel 8 pro. I have to agree the Pixel 9 pro XL is disappointing and not just in the camera section but overall. If, besides that, you mostly use it for web surfing, emails and research, you could use a MacBook air with the base M4 chip as you don't need the power. Just make sure you got enough storage and ram. You could buy an external monitor for your desktop setup and an iPad for taking written notes.
