Just to make everyone aware - we can now see that Sea To Summit *are* continuing to make the camper version of their comfort deluxe SI mattress - so do check that out if you are interested.
Hi Will , just spoke with Campervanbits as we purchased this for the top of the cali, idea was to deflate and leave it up top. After 48 hours up there with the top closed we noticed the back of the roof was not flush to the van . The mattress had inflated itself even with the valves completely shut. Campervanbits advised that this SHOULD NOT be left up top as there is always a chance it will inflate and the straps in the bag are there to keep it deflated when rolled up. Guess we will just have to roll up daily 😞
Thanks for sharing, that is interesting. We do store ours up there and have never had it expand it the way you describe. Have you tested it for leaks at all in the bath or by spraying soapy water on it to see if you can see bubbles generating?
Vango also make an identical mattress. Just picked one up at the camper show 2023. Going to use it for the pop top bed but I think I will store in rolled up in the van after reading some comments
Thanks for this, I've sourced one second hand I'm collecting Monday, really hoping it will save my poor back 😅 what is the little pump you used please?
Hi Will. Been meaning to let you know that we purchased this mattress after your review and we’re really happy with it. Very impressed with how it doesn’t feel at all like an air bed. We’re off to France for 3 weeks happy that we’ll be sleeping soundly!! Great review videos. Best wishes Dave
Thanks for this and the previous S2S video. Have been totally convinced to get the…. S2S. Managed to find some German retailers in stock for the 220 gbp mark. To my eye the OR is a air bed with a bit of foam in it vs the S2S which is a foam bed with some air in it. Researched the mattress construction too between both and it’s clear why the S2S is twice the price given the higher quality materials and foam makeup. Have to agree with some comments that you did not seem completely convinced but its a tough balance reviewing stuff you get for free. Proof will be in the pudding when the van finally arrives end of month.
Great stuff, glad you have found one in stock. We've decided to keep the OR and have now sold our S2S - we much prefer the valves on the OR and after living with it for a little while now, we do think it is a bit more comfy too. Obviously long term durability isn't known yet so we have our fingers crossed, but for now it seems to suit us just right. I really don't think you can go far wrong with either to be honest.
Thanks for the video. I wasn’t convinced Will, you seemed a bit tentative in saying how good it was. I think I’d prefer the one the sea to summit shame it’s been discontinued .
No problem. No real hesitation here, it's just slightly/marginally better than the S2S, not a huge difference, hence why I probably sounded a bit so-so about it. If we had to choose one, we'd choose this one though. So much so we might sell our S2S actually...
Looks a bit of a clat tbh, I guess it must be worth it.. made us laugh when you were deflating 😂 Hope Sarah &Lucy enjoyed the walk while you were slaving away😂 .Thanks as ever
Hi great video I have a question about it bending up when you put the bottom bed rest in the raised position ? Did it work and crease in the right area ? Thanks in advance. Missed seeing Sarah’s smile.
Oh Sarah’s got a video coming all to herself soon! We haven’t tried it on the lower bed with the back raised on it but I suspect it won’t be that happy to do that. It’s quite ‘stiff’ in some respects. Maybe if it was only half inflated perhaps? Next time we have it out we’ll try.
Thanks for the review but wouldn't tempt me away from the simple roll out our Duvalay. Upstairs I find the standard mattress / spring combination with my Duvalay sleeping bag as good if not better than downstairs.
Super simple 😂 not for a under 5ft female...... I’m lucky cos I find the top bed absolutely fine. Always sleep well and get up feeling fine. So does my hubby. Thank goodness we are not princesses 😆 😂 😂 saves the faff aswell.
Thanks for this video and all the work. If i had to use these matresses ….i would sell the VW 🥴 to unhandy, to much stress. We hated the standard VW matresses also and baught two great matresses in germany, vw calicap and these are great ! 👋
Hiya. Helpful video again perfect timing just as we are thinking about one!!! As this mattress is 12cm thick have you out of interest tried it on its own without the vw comfort mattress and with the rear shelf raised up? Thinking this would give more space under the shelf but would it be enough on its own. I need a really good mattress and we’ve been using a double bed topper on the comfort mattress. This is fine but to large on width downstairs 🤔. Thanks for making these informative vids!!
Hello! We haven't tried that yet but we can give it a go next time we go away. I'm not that confident that this would bend as required if you are planning on using the rear self at an angle (T6.1) though.
Good point. We have a T5 se so don’t have the luxury of a reclining back shelf! We’re going to order one anyway so can give that a try. Thanks again. I don’t know how you always manage land a video review just when we’re thinking about it, last time it was the porta potti😊 your obviously reading my mind!!
I would be interested to see if this fitted downstairs in a beach as we find the downstairs bed on a three seater beach dreadful we have tried all sorts of t toppers and comfort mattresses. In contrast the other bed with a standard mattress is much more comfortable and preferred bed
Another great video, although my wife is seriously concerned about our finances as I tend to buy things after watching your vids. Do you think you could leave the original mattress and this mattress deflated in the top and close it?
Ooops, sorry about that! No, you can’t leave this deflated upstairs with the original mattress, but that said, you won’t need the original fit mattress at all (in our opinion) as this is comfy enough on its own.
We normally sleep upstairs if we can, purely to give Lucy more space on the floor downstairs and also because I tend to get up about an hour before Sarah in the morning 👍
Good review thanks Will. It’s not for me though. It just looks too much of a faff and it doesn’t look long enough to me. I’ve ordered 2 x 2.5 cm x 60 cm Duvulay toppers with zip up sheets to put on top of the standard Cali mattress up top. Thanks for the all the reviews 😀👍 Great channel !
Thank you :) Great you’ve found an option that works for you. Getting comfy is a really personal thing and it’s just nice to have another option on the market.
You've said a couple of times the S2S Comfort Deluxe Camper mattress is discontinued, yet retailers appear to be restocking this Spring and calling it the 2022 model. Did this info come direct from S2S HQ?
Well that is interesting. No, not from S2S HQ, just based on a couple of retailers telling us it had been discontinued - but that was about a month ago we asked. If they are restocking a 2022 model of it that's great news - more choice is always good for everyone.
How did the Cali lower bed become so short, my T4 Cali lower bed is 1,940mm & I presume the T6/5 is similar, I’m 1.75m a 1.80m mattress is too short with your feet hanging off the rear which is not comfortable having tried a thick mattress topper of 1.80m, especially with the OR inflatable thickness. I have a cut down IKEA mattress topper, which is smaller folded up than the Outdoor Revolution
Hi - we use this one: vwcaliforniaclub.com/shop/product/outdoor-revolution-mini-max-usb-air-pump and it comes with a load of different fittings to adapt it. If you use the rubber one it fits nicely over the inflate valve.
Hi Will is the outdoor revolution model the Campstar camper van 100? Was just looking online and that was the only one I could see with a cut off corner. Says its 100cm wide? Or is this 112cm wide version not out for sale yet? Thanks - great videos - can't wait to pick my new Cali up next month!!

Really interesting! The valve concept is interesting and the thickness very appealing. What about the noise when you move(compared to the sea to summit) ? I'm kind of the same height than you, how problematic is it to have it only 180cm tall? I can't undersetand why they went for this 180cm I must admit. The top and bottom bed is 200cm, they should have made it to something like 190-195cm. Another question: Since it's 12cm tall, can you still put the top bed up without any issue?
Hi - No noise when moving about on it at all really. I didn't find the 180cm a problem as I tend to lie on my side and bring my knees up slightly but even stretched out it was only my ankles off the end. In terms of putting it inflated upstairs and then pushing the bed up on the gas struts - yes you can, we did do that.
@@CampervanTime Okay thanks for the feedback. I'm really hesitate. I mostly sleep on the side but my GF doesn't. We use our cali all 4 seasons, we always sleep upstairs (and winter nights are quite cold in switzerland). In those conditions, you really don't want to keep a foot out of the down. It's really a shame, otherwise it would just be perfect :(. By the way, we felt that the Sea-to-summit was not really breathable, is it the same sensation/breathability?
Sarah and I both commented to each other actually that we felt this new Outdoor Revolution one felt less 'sweaty' than the S2S too. I suppose they both have to be PVC of some kind to keep the air in but this one does seem to have some kind of polyester layer on it that helps with comfort. We use a cotton sheet on it too which also helps.
What about opening the valves fully (to cut air resistance over the deflate position) and lowering the roof gradually, to squeeze flat. Would that work, without damaging roof do u think?
@@ewenrobertson1724 unfortunately not. The Cali roof (well the electric one anyway) is quite sensitive to that kind of thing. It closes back first and if it doesn’t go down fully at the back the front ends up sticking up. Any pressure holding it up at the back causes this issue.
Thanks for another helpful video - you are costing me a fortune tho! (Just taken delivery of outwell fallcrest tarps following your review 😀) I know you don’t tend to sleep on the downstairs bed but I wondered if you’ve come across the CampervanBits comfortz folding mattresses, curious how these stack up in comparison to standard vw comfort mattress as they are cheaper? I’ll have to make time for a visit to the showroom!
We’ve not had a comfortz topper before so I can’t comment about it against the vw comfort mattress I’m afraid. The vw one is comfy though, I must admit - even better with this mattress on top!
So now I really have to choose, my current sea2summit had a lot of tiny holes(probably due to the velcro of the sunshade that we use to store with the mattress on the top). On their website, it's advised as a 100cm wide), we would have the hands touching the frame below(already happens sometimes. Also, is this really thicker than the S2S once inflated? Both seems to advise a 10cm thickness?
Yes thats right, the one that we have reviewed is a very specific size and only sold be a few retailers. It isn’t on the normal OR site. We do prefer this OR one over the S2S. It seems to be more comfortable generally and is a good fit up or downstairs.
