The original is better and if you’re gonna watch a Tony Scott movie watch true romance . Does make me happy that you know who he is though seem most people don’t
@@stripedrajang3571 Well, from what we get of his motivations throughout the film, Ryder is a man far past the end of his rope. He got a raw deal for a prison sentence and lost everything in the process. The actual crime was in my opinion a way to give himself an out from his misery one way or the other. Best case scenario, he pulls off a daring crime and is filthy rich because of it. Absolute worst case; he dies and is freed from his suffering. There was no middle ground. He tells Garber, “You’re my goddamn hero” because Garber (not by choice) spared Ryder of spending the rest of his life in the same place that put him on this path in the first place. At any rate he wasn’t walking away from that confrontation, had Garber not pulled the trigger, Ryder would have shot him and waited to be immediately gunned down by the approaching officers. But I think he wanted it to be Garber because he grew a modicum of respect for him throughout their negotiations/conversations in the film. He says the same phrase to Garber right after Garber admits to taking the bribe and being forthcoming to save a young man’s life during the hostage situation, and I think he truly meant it. Saying it again to him after he shoots is just reinforcing his twisted sense of admiration of Garber in his final moments. It’s basically a “thank you” by the end.
One of the best films I have ever seen, two of the best actors in one film, Legends Denzel Washington and John Travolta. Truly Amazing, soundtrack, storyline, characters, and action. An extremely underrated film, and what a great adaptation. One where you get a perspective of each character, and I literally can't describe the film without spoiling it but it's a must-watch. Brilliant. 7.05.2020
What's funny is that the only reason why Garber managed to catch Ryder is because Ryder really liked him. He could've killed Garber anytime he wanted but choose not to. Ryder is a ruthless and suicidal man, but when he heard what Garber did for his children, taking the bribe not to waste it on trivial things but to pay for his children education, that made him respect Garber a lot more. I really loved the dynamic of those 2. Perhaps, if they met in a different time and different circumstances, they could've become good brothers.
It's that feeling when you don't want to do something but you have no choice at the moment, because you know deep in yourself that it wasn't right thing to do, but you didn't have a choice as it is, this scene shows just how much empathy they had for each other, Ryder for Garber, as a criminal, and Garber for Ryder, as a police officer, Ryder says he made a promise, he wants Garber to kill him before cops arrive at the scene, because he wanted Garber to prove him how much of a man he really is, even if that costs him his life, and can he keep his word, this is a really powerful scene, goes perfectly altogether with an ending music in cover, all is done very astoundingly in this movie.
This scene is pale in comparison to the original imo. Robert Shaw’s character was so cold and calculated, beginning to end. Instead of forcing an officer to shoot him, he simply questioned the cop if the electric chair was still used in the state. When the cop answered no, Shaw kept a stone-cold emotionless face while only uttering the word “pity” before ramming his foot in the third rail. What an excellently creative and brilliantly acted scene and film that was. This version just doesn’t to it for me
the ending doesn't make sense at all, a crime genius like Ryder came up with such stupid escaping plan, walking down the streets in the broad day light, crossing the bridge at its peak hour😂
Yes it does, Ryder wanted to get caught. It’s a very intricate plot line. Ryder wanted to go down but he didn’t want to just go down without having any effect on the world. He wanted to show how valuable life is for normal people and he knew that he was a criminal and always would be, so instead of continuing a life of crime, he ended his life of crime. Just in a very odd way. He wanted to commit suicide but wasn’t a coward so he wasn’t going to shoot himself. The only way he wanted to die was at the hands of someone who was willing to show that there’s something to live for. He wasn’t able to live with himself but as a criminal he wasn’t a coward, so he wanted to kill himself but wanted it to mean something. He wanted someone to know that life is precious, but he didn’t believe his was. That’s why he was egging on Garber. He was bluffing saying we should all die because he wanted to hear we should all live, except for himself. He didn’t want to die without making an impact.
@@GeoJesseIf he wanted to die but didn't want to do it himself, how does that make him not a coward? If anything he's still a coward cuz he wanted an "out"/wanted to die, and other suicide victims would be also cowardly but less cowardly cuz while they also want an "out," they at least have the guts to actually inflict physical harm on themselves
@@Deadpool-px2nmnah in my point of view, he ain’t no coward. He even pointed the middle finger to a police sniper. And dude he actually wanted himself dead or caught by the police but even though he took the easy way out, he did all the planning and almost escaping without getting injured. That is definitely not a coward.
The life he gave garber back was giving him the opportunity to confess to taking the bribe under duress, so that ultimately the situation would go away and he could go back to his normal life and job. Ryder was a real one !! 1:25
He realized he wasn't getting out of this. You can tell the moment the person who was originally supposed too conduct the train died that Ryder realized there was no way out.
