It blows me away that they actually used the real person's name in the show. That's wild. One of the things I loved about how the character was written and played was how smart and strategic he was-- which was true of many of the top characters anyway. Seems like they got that part right. Looking forward to the documentary.
More than a few of the actors on The Wire came from the streets of Baltimore and some of them had done time for various offenses. The Deacon aka Melvin Williams (RIP) was a major drug trafficker in Baltimore in the 70s and 80s before going to prison in the mid 80s. IIRC, some of the actors on The Wire were arrested by or at least knew Ed Burns, one of the writers and co-creators of The Wire, who was a former Baltimore narcotics and homicide detective. Snoop aka Felicia Pearson is from Baltimore as well and was in the streets before landing acting roles.

Marlo didn’t do the security guard over lollipops. He didn’t like the security scoping him like he was a thief, so he took the lollipops just to show the security guard that even if he wanted to steal something ain’t nothing he could do about it. Incorrect. Marlo was in his feelings about getting robbed by Omar and took it out on somebody that wasnt in the game. He was being a bully. He had the security guard killed because he dared to stand up to him. Nothing real about that.

Wow, Marlo Stanfield speaking out about The Wire being based on his life is wild! No wonder his character felt so authentic-it was based on a real kingpin.
