Woof. This comic dub was QUITE the undertaking. STORY TIME: a few months back, I approached Tesslyn to see if she'd be interested in letting me turn her Patreon-only comic series "Ghost" into a comic dub. We decided that the best time to release said dub would be after she had done enough pages to put together a single comic on Gumroad, and I could drive some sales towards that. Perfect!
Cut to a month ago, Tesslyn shared her finished comic with me and my first impression was "oh no I may have bit off more than I can chew what have I done". Let me break down some of my fears going into mixing this, and how they got overcome. Or maybe the fears remained and I just got super lucky and this comic dub got done anyway. One of those!
First of all, atmosphere. While I'd done atmospheric comic dubs before, I'd never done one THIS long and where many sustained moments were held over several panels with no dialogue or very minimal dialogue. This meant a lot of thinking about "how long do I hold on this panel? how long would be too long or too short?"; I usually rely on dialogue beats for that (eg panel is revealed, dialogue starts, dialogue ends, panel changes, repeat) but now that I had something a little freeform it was time for a mild panic attack. In the end I went with my gut and "eyeballed" it ("eardrummed" it? no that's terrible) and I think I managed to get this out all right! At least, I hope so.
Second of all, music. I was REALLY tempted to use the music I'd heard playing the visual novel "The House in Fata Morgana" and was weighing up the pros and cons of using music associated with another game and the possibility of having this video hit with a copyright claim. In the end I decided "what the heck, I'm really feeling that game's soundtrack for this dub!" and went with it. At first, I was using the track "This Mutilated Body" by Yusuke Tsutsumi, which I thought was PERFECT (both in terms of the mood conveyed and the title); but I just couldn't really make it flow with the comic dub as a whole piece, it went a little bit too hard and had way too much energy. Then I tried using "Everybody's Crying" (also by Yusuke Tsutsumi) and that worked out much better; the piece flowed with the rise and ebb of emotions in the comic, and the title still works as well! In any case, there's a second audio mix of "Ghost" with different background music on my computer and I dunno what to do with it.
Third of all, ACTING. For a comic centered around Widowmaker, I was not nearly expecting the amount of emotional heavy lifting Sombra had to do. And super lucky times for me: Kimlinh knocked it out of the hotdamn park. HOTDAMN ACTING. I actually got a little bit teary mixing the part where Sombra starts attacking Reaper; and completely put off the part where she realises that BOTH her friends are running out of time, because I felt like I couldn't do the mix proper justice. Tamara was also super great as Widowmaker (and a surprise appearance from Amelie!) with both her usual cold demeanour, and a surprisingly gentle side coupled with the quiet, tired acceptance of her forthcoming expiration. And finally, I am also there. I smoulder with barely restrained rage. Is what Reaper does.
I'd talk sound effects, but at this point I think this has gone on long enough. Long story short: sound effects are both the blessing and the bane of my sound mixing existence. Finding the sound of a plasteel (presumably) mask hitting the ground? What kind of ground is it anyway: soft, hard, gravel? How loud should the simulated tinnitus be so its presence is felt without actually hurting the ears of the audience? What does the hum of a hologram sound like? I can't find the sound of someone getting pummeled by angry hispanic fists, so it looks like I'm going to have to record myself hitting myself! Where can I sneak in the Wilhelm scream THIS time?

Hi. I've been a long time lurker of this channel, and I'm going to rave about how GOOD this thing is.
First off: The premise is realistic and juicy. Even if they're villains, you work with someone long enough, you bond with them. This, unlike other AU's where the villains split from Talon, works. Second: Widow's condition. This is something that's actually been bouncing around in my head for a while. If you mess with someone's body enough, then I don't care what kind of super-science you have, it's going to start breaking down. The human body is a very complex thing, and changing the design too much is going to cause serious problems no matter how good your tech is. So kudos there. Third: Sombra and Reaper's perspectives on the issue. Reaper is actually trying to PROTECT Widow from what he (perhaps rightfully) believes is a fate worse than death. Sombra's stuck in the very harsh position of trying to convince him that his "creation" was a mistake, not an example of Mercy's work. And Widow's...not really all there anymore, and she's stuck watching her only two friends scream at each other.
And all of this is picked up upon without being directly said, because you are all THAT GOOD.

I can understand such retaliation in response to all this; just don't be surprised when that bazooka shot is answered with a prompt and swift Meteor Strike from Talon's recently freed boss...
I think reapers face is suppose to be a "rotting corpse" since anyone that sees him look like they are seeing something horrendous to the eyes
Out of all people in Overwatch Reaper is probably the one that is suffering for the most. Moira did something to Reyes before the explosion and gave him superpowers like shadow step, I think Reyes wasn't even feeling pain at that moment, but it changed in the explosion when he died. Moira experiment did not make him immortal by itself. I think it was Mercy that revived him after destruction of the facility which make whatever Moira did activate again and now its regenerating and decaying his dead corpse that he has to live in now and to make matters worse it may be that Mercy improve this thing without knowing it which make Gabriel truly immortal, which was one of the main goals that Moira had in her experiments. Now he lives feeling the pain from that explosion, feeling as his body decays and is unable to die neither from natural causes or from being killed. Moira technology was based on Mercy and Mercy was the one that did not let him die. It wouldn't be that surprising if he did not trust neither of them.
In comparison to that whatever is happening to Black Widow in this comic would be blessing for Reaper. It's really heartbreaking, he may even survive every one of the heroes from Overwatch and remain as he is. Horrible fate indeed.

I'm kinda sad that Blizzard don't develop Overwatch lore and shows Talon members only as "eeeevil bad guys", except for one moment, when Widow visited her husband's grave.

Which shows that she isn't completely gone. There is some part of her that didn't want that, which gives hope for the members of Overwatch that she can still be brought back after all the brainwashing and experiments they have done to her. That is if one of them has seen her do so, then they are still considering her as an enemy.

Troll Creative Studios no, she was evil, just not intolerably so. Project Paperclip comes to mind. She Moira violated every research ethics guideline to advance research to the point where others to try to replicate her results failed because they weren’t willing to do the things she was. The ethical guidelines were more suggestions to her it’s an actual rules to follow that implies a certain disregard for the lives and well-being of the people and animals and other things your experimenting on.

It's hard to imagine the sort of psychological strain that's being put on Sombra in this situation. Seeing as she's the only person who's still completely alive, emotionally and physically, being put in this position must be almost impossible for her to grasp. Especially when you consider the fact that a major part of her character is always being in control, and now she's suddenly helpless.
years later I wonder why she doesn't hate Moira compleatly. Since Sigma is also a victim of all of this? She even says that they should stop frying his brain, showing that Sombra actually cares about others sometimes.. Maybe though she's keeping up a facade so they won't kick her out for doing something to Moira-

O_O Damn, that's deep. Your portrayal of the character's voices and attitudes is top of the line. You absolutely nailed Sombra's reaction to Reaper's face. Her distinction between Gabe and Reaper is an excellent touch.

im still amazed how good the dubs are when omahdon and her/his crew are doing it. i've checking out other dubbers but omahdon is definitely the best i've seen. and after this comic i think i understand why reaper is wearing a mask. i think he's trying to avoid that people can see his suffering and his pain which he's going trough brecause of Angela's attempt to save him.

The acting you guys gave and the talent of the story maker is amazing, including the art, I was legit in tears when Sombra broke down and took Reaper's mask. It felt very real, I was hooked and instantly felt as if they're normal people with actual feelings instead of villains.

I love how you guys are really giving the “Villians” a lot more personality and purpose than just being an obstacle to the “good guys” your showing that these people arnt exactly evil. That most if not all of them are victims of bad luck and fate and that despite all they’ve done they are still people who are fighting for their friend. I love it when “villians” are hard to hate and actually have some personality ther than “ I just did this evil thing just to make you hate me and give the hero an enemy.” Great work Omahdon love your work

"He Thrusts his Fists Against the Posts and Still Insists he Sees the Ghosts." Seems Reaper still sees a few ghosts ever after all this time.
Funny thing is, even though Blizzard Retconned Mercy being the reason Gabe became Reaper, I have a different idea.
Mercy's Methods at the time, worked on Regular Human Beings, but Moria's Methods severely Destabilized Gabe's body, which, So when Mercy attempted to Heal Gabe after the incident that Destroyed Overwatch HQ, The Nanomachines she uses, Clashed horribly with the Set Moria injected into Gabe, which caused his body to enter a Constant Cycle of Deterioration and Healing, and since Mercy was unaware of the Nanomachines Moria installed in Gabe, she was unable to understand what went wrong.
Which would make it understandable Why Reaper doesn't like Mercy, but also hates Moria. One unintentionally destroyed his life, While the other, did everything without giving two shits, just to sate her morbid Curiosity.

Furthermore, Ohmadon's commentary below the video seems to imply that Reaper's undead-ness isn't sustainable either, and he's dying too.
Dying-as-in-eventually-he-will-be-dead I mean. As opposed to the continuously-dying-and-regenerating he does at all times in canon. I mean- He's still clearly got his Wraith-form-one-man-fog-machine powers here, so he's ALSO still doing his REGULAR dying-thing, it's just that the 'and-regenerating' part is apparently running out and going to stop at some point.
FlirtyMaknae To add to the others, this also seems to an AU of sorts where the group has had a falling out with Talon. In canon, Talon provides Amélie (and likely Gabe) with the healing necessary to stay "alive." (likely through Moira) So if they broke of from Talon, it stands to reason that Talon would cut off their medical support. Thus, running out of options, Sombra suggest they see Anna, because she probably would be able to help.

Basically, the process of turning Amelie into Widowmaker had the side-effect of giving her a weird 20-minutes-into-the-future-sci-fi-comic-book version of an actual real-world medical condition. I DON'T know the full details and don't remember what the condition is, but I remember one of Biology-nerd friends talking about how it ACTUALLY does have the side-effect of making you turn purple. You want the name you can check her wiki page.
Premise of comic is that the condition - which involves slowing her heart rate + blood flow - isn't actually sustainable. Widow's dying.
So yeah, they're trying to save her, that's why they need Zeigler's skills.
Based off of Ohmadon's commentary below the video, when Sombra removes Reaper's mask and sees his face, she realizes he's dying/further degrading/his time is running out too. We don't get a very good look at his face here, but the bit we did see gives me the impression that - at least for part of Gabe's face - it's no longer just Reaper's mask that's a naked skull.
So. Yeah.

sightlessraiton basically the short version is that talon did something to widow maker which slowed down her heart which means her body isn't getting enough oxygen so her skin is blue. The lower heart rate does make it easier to snipe but it's also killing her as well.

I think the story might need some tweaking thanks to blizzards suprise reveal of Moira and how she's connected to reapers powers.
The title combined with Widow's backstory is giving me StarCraft vibes. The way Talon got their sniper is a lot like the way the Terran Dominion got Nova and possibly their other Ghosts. Of course it's not exactly the same but it kinda makes me think...

Hey where can I find this version of everybody’s crying I tried searching but everyone I found the vocals sound different is this a remix of someone else singing it or is this just the original and I’m crazy?
Could someone give me the link to this version? Maybe I’m just crazy but when I searched on RUclips the vocals sound much more higher and feminine rather than lower and more masculine in this video
