Actually you are right about one of the levels being pasted into this game, theres a part of the Grove forest that is taken from a level in ANB (Munitions Forge) but with different textures and enemies and such, heck they even used some of the same enemies but with a reskin.

I played about 5 minutes of this game before giving up. To this day it's the only Spyro game that has bored me THAT fast. And from what I hear, from the frustrating combat to the rushed story, I'm not missing much. Glad my hunch was right and I didn't have to subject myself to the rest of it.

See, this is the game I NEVER heard anything about. Even though I played it as a kid, it was completely absent from my memory.
Just got wait until my Dawn of the Dragon video.

I don't think people were defending the console game. The GBA version on the other hand... most of the "missing" story is in it; but in order to unlock Dark Spyro for the whole game, you need to beat in on hard... that took me almost a year due to the Naga boss fight alone.

I never really was bothered about the Dragon Time not being brought up but it seems it could be tied to that large Hourglass the Chronicler has, I mean Celestial Caves is a spiritual place as Ignitus is somehow there in full physical form in DOTD so Spyro might be tapping into that Hourglass, you'll see it has some mystical blue sand in it that looks like it's bubbling or probably just glimmering.

Never grew up with Spyro. I never even played the first two legend games. I found dawn of the dragon at a goodwill and really enjoyed it for what it is. The acting is dull and the story is basic, but the gameplay kept me motivated, the combat and flying segments really satisfied me. Plus finding hidden items was a thrill. Hopefully you'll enjoy that entry better. :)

Why yes, I will defend "this game". It had a LOT more platforming in every level. Which is exactly what any Spyro game, OG or reboot, needs to be good. There are honest to God collectables this time around (weak ass gaemerz cannot get them all). The music was BETTER, if you actually paid attention. There isn't any "bad" writing, the story is simply cut. Could have had more stuff, if only Activision wasn't Activision. Whatever was made under the deadline and put together, barely holds, but holds.

Only ever watched playthroughs of A New Beginning and Eternal Night, but I could clearly tell Eternal Night was complete garbage. That said, I did play Dawn of the Dragon growing up so I have a bit of a soft spot for that game and I can't wait to see your review of it down the line!

the Legend of Spyro series was supposed to be much better, more open world and not as linear with replayability and more to do. but with a budget of 1 million which is little to nothing to make a game it's understandable why it turned out like it did. I do hope though they get remade in the future into the original planned idea which was much better. Better story telling, not rushed, improved combat and not re using alot of the same stuff but with reskins. So people shouldn't hate on it, look at Enter the Dragonfly which is worse

  • @ThePsychicClarinetist

Honestly, as much as I love The Legend of Spyro trilogy, I almost completely agree with this video. I recently ran through all three of the games as a nostalgia trip and goodbye to 2019 and the 2010's. While I have nostalgia for all three games, The Eternal Night is definitely my least favorite of the three, and always has been.
The enemies were absolutely broken sometimes, and was incredibly frustrating to deal with (I also kinda suck so that doesn't help, LOL). That gauntlet section you mentioned is the BANE OF MY EXISTENCE! Especially that small arena with all the huge enemies, GOOD GOD. I wasn't lucky enough to get that permanent magic glitch that you got. As a child, this game was so difficult to me, I never properly finished it until years later.
However, Dawn of the Dragon is pretty great, improved on a lot in my opinion. I love the story, the gameplay is a bit better and a little more unique. The art improves by leaps and bounds. When I was young, I was always confused about the beginning of that game since I hadn't finished The Eternal Night.
The only two things I slightly disagree with that you said are the elemental breaths and the music. I do think some powers improved, but the same amount of powers got worse. As for the music, I remember the title music since it's so much more bleak and dark than A New Beginning's, which really supports the overall tone of the game, and the music that started the credits is gorgeous to me, TBH, and almost felt like the only reward we get for beating the game besides plot awareness.
I've been enjoying your Spyro series reviews a lot, and I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions on Dawn of the Dragon when that time comes. I hope you like that game much more than The Eternal Night! The plot and music are at least on par with A New Beginning and the gameplay is better, IMO! 😁

Yeah, this game was REALLY rough. Props to you for even getting through it.
But, never fear, Dawn of the Dragon will be a breath of fresh air compared to this. The third game is has a really solid setup, compared to the first two, though a lot of people tend to feel that it falls off in the second half.
But anyway, great video! Thanks for taking the time to finish this game (yeah, it sucks, but you tried). I’m excited to hear your thoughts on the third one.

I would honestly agree with ALL of things you mentioned in the video, except...
    I still wouldn't trash it :)
If you are a hardcore gamer - this game will beat the s"*t out of you, in contrast to other two games from trilogy - A new beginning is easy and forgiving, and Dawn of the dragon is enjoyable normal experience with some hard parts if you want them :)
That said - if you completed Eternal Night - you can just breeze-play through other two (especially a new beginning - after eternal night it will feel unfairly easy :)
I liked the dark atmosphere of the game though. But yeah - AI is waaaay to overpowered, recovering-from-attack animations is waaaay to long (you can't do anything when enemies attacking you), and yeah - pirate ship just suuuucks, same for the final boss - not enjoyed it a bit...

I think the Eternal Night (despite not being the best general Spyro game (I still prefer the original and reignited trilogy)) is SLIGHTLY better than a New Beginning. It’s still annoying but I think the best and ONLY good parts of the game are the new combat moves and the Dragon Time thing. I think the game is JUST ok. It’s not bad but it’s not good either. It’s just ok.
If there’s any LoS game that I think is the worst, it’s Dawn of the Dragon. It doesn’t feel like Spyro anymore, the controls are garbage, the writing feels forced, and the combat is painfully awkward. If you’re planning to review that game, all I can do is wish you the best of luck. I think it’s worse than Eternal Night. The worst part is that people defend it more than its predecessors.
