I followed your route to reach golden rock a few days ago. It's such an amazing experience. Thank you! On my way back, I tried cable car and ac bus. I found train is not just more economical, it is faster to go back to downtown. For the bus, it takes another hour of taxi. Besides, the train seat is more spacious. No ac, not a big deal.
Shel In our experience, trains from Yangon Central Railway Station always departed exactly on time, but delays of several hours seem to be the norm on the return journey. If you want to take the train, take it to Golden Rock, but we recommend the bus for the return journey. Hi, awesome video, how long did it take u from yangon to the golden rock place by train? is the train reliable? departed on time? thanks a lot, do u think it would be worth it visiting the golden rock considering its a long trip? thanks again, Sebastian
Hi Sebastian, it took us 7 hours to go from Yangon to the ticket office at Golden Rock (train, then the two pick-up vans/trucks). We took the train a number of times from Yangon to various places and the trains always left exactly on time in our experience. People do seem to have long delays on the way back to Yangon though. So if you want to take the train, we'd only advise it on the way there. You can take a bus back to Yangon a couple of minutes' walk from where the mountain pick-up truck drops you off (the same place where you take it from - as shown in this video). We thought it was worth the trip. We do recommend staying the night as it's a long journey and you can enjoy the sunset/sunrise. Check out our other videos of the sunset and sunrise if you want to get a better sense of what that's like and if it's something you want to experience for yourself. Hope that helps!
You'll have to get used to that when travelling by train in Myanmar, we're afraid. Haha Train tickets are so cheap though that we can't really complain. Buses do have A/C though (sometimes too much), so many people prefer bus travel. Train services out of Yangon at least leave/arrive on time (that was our experience anyway over multiple occasions). That doesn't seem to happen on return trips though, where delays of several hours are commonplace. We recommend the bus for the return trip.

Great one.

Do the trains leave relatively on time?

Thanks a lot, I heard from some tourists recommended to travel by bus than train, since train ride seems to be way too long.
You said first class seating and no air conditioning . Omg are you kidding me? 😲😲😲
