Tom Helms never for directing. That’s what the comment is about. Didn’t get a nod for any of the Dark Knight films, nor for Memento, Inception or Interstellar. I’d like to see Dunkirk taking home the Best Picture and Best Director prizes, but if the way the award shows have been any indicator, doesn’t look like this will happen. A surprise could be pulled and Dunkirk wins either Oscar or both of those Oscars, as well as other awards, in particularly in the technical categories, but I’m not sure. The Oscars can surprise everyone with their decisions. Just when you think you know which film will win the top prizes, they’ll surprise you. That said, I do think Gary Oldman will get his Academy Award finally. Long overdue for him indeed. This should be like Oldman’s fourth or fifth Oscar win by now.

Greta Gerwig is one talented lady- there’s something really fascinating and quirky about the screenplay of ladybird; the dialogues in the movie are simple, minimalistic and still so poetic.

I've just rewatched this and the DGA panel (sadly with the exclusion of PTA) for the millionth time and I was so engrossed in it that I was startled when it ended. Probably the best year for a panel discussion ever. When you listen to them speak about each others films, you realize that all the critics, the awards and the whole hullabaloo that the media creates around films is really pointless. At the end of the day, I feel filmmakers are the ones who can really respect and acknowledge the collective love and passion for cinema. Such an inspiring pair of videos this one and the DGA panel together!

Guillermo Del Toro - I’ve been noticing his name in the credits lately under Thanks (Special thanks, Producer wishes to thank, Director thanks, etc). Search on IMDb shows 96 productions that thanked him, including: Gravity, Birdman, The Revenant, Dune Part One, Ferrari, and Leave the World Behind. So besides seeming like a nice person and being quite busy as a filmmaker, he seems to be very helpful!
