She’s super nice, i played a show with her band a few years ago and she let me try her guitar. Super nice of her!
awesome, i just spent about 30 minutes learning this and getting it down, and now I really feel like I can start to actually play something new and exciting on guitar. I've been playing the same riffs and licks for a few decades now, my guitar progress had stalled out long ago and I was starting to get bored, then I discovered math rock. I can't thank you enough, your channel has really been an inspiration.
I’ve never heard the song and band but that riff is awesome
You are a godsend Steve. Pull-offs are the bane of my existence
Nick Reinhart said the riff was tapped on an Instagram Q and A.
Yes, but for a beginner playing that assymmetrical melody is quite challenging. So it makes sense to practice this way first.
(at least it made sense to me when I learned it)
Sure! I played it as tapping in this video: ruclips.net/video/Ss2wmGiLwrQ/видео.html
from 00:19
I found it harder that way though. haha
I’ve seen him tap it and strum it live, I guess it’s a dealers choice type deal. But it does sound tapped on the record.
I remember one of the first things i learned from you was this riff when you showed it using tapping. I personally found it easier tapped but i will also learn it this way to help gain pinky strength. Thanks for the wonderful content
i was looking for something mathy to learn, now i found it
Glad I could help!
Thank you! this is awesome. Been playing for 4 months so far and wanted to try math and got this down in just around a day! Thanks!
man i love u its my fav tera melos song/riff
I was really looking for this tutorial, you are amazing!
Glad I could help!
saw tera melos live a couple of times. insane performers.
Eyy that's me under the Yvette Young comment.
Nice vid i will def try. Thnx for all your teachings you have teached me allot, can you also teach some heavier math like Fall of Troy
Thanks a lot !!
Oh this is a really nice riff I'm going to have to check this band out! Thank you for all the awesome work you do :)
Cheers! You should, the untitled EP is amazing!
@@LetsTalkAboutMathRock Cheers back at you :3 I definitely will!
@@LetsTalkAboutMathRock so I checked it out and it was awesome thank you for the recommendation!
Sick!!
you are the BEST!!!
Cheers! 😁
A Chon video would be nice
i love you steve
this riff is tapped, looking at a vintage tera melos on youtube you can see him clearly tapping this riff
I know this riff, Tera Melos untitled, track 4? I paused after hearing it and commented, I was right! Gold star for me ⭐️
Go you! 😅
Let's Talk About Math Rock 😂 thank you for teaching this I’m going to be attempting this when have to the time to actually sit down and play. I haven’t been able to play because I haven’t learned to set up my own guitar and all the local shops are closed so I can’t get my guitars to make a note, so I’ve been practicing on my teenage engineering op-z and getting okay sounding loops out of it.
i swear i will never be able to play this genre
keep practicing. I tried practicing math riffs when I was early on in my guitar days, got really frustrated and went back to standard. I just started again and after a few days I have this riff down for the most part, Steve still does it like butter lol.
same here
People need to hook this dude up on patreon. Steve u have Venmo or cash app ?
Prob spelled that wrong but u folks know what I’m saying. This dude is a God send putting up content like this for free
Did you just say gormless? You're the only other person I've ever heard say that. That's some old school slang right there lol
I’ve seen him play it live and he’s done it both ways. With the next part being odd strumming patterns I’m gonna guess he picks them on the record.
Thanks for the info! I played it as tapping in my 7 riffs video as tapping but I found it more difficult that way.
Let's Talk About Math Rock you’re always welcome. Math rock is my favorite rock genre. I’d love to learn the first part of never meant by American football.
Let's Talk About Math Rock also you’re my favorite guitar RUclipsr.
nah he taps the riff
Need more cool simple riff Steve. Cool video. Like, love, hate)
Sure thing!
I sent the email to give a tutorial on it btw
Could you give us a list of math rock songs from easy to hard?
Yes. Please do this.
What strings and size do you use?
Question from South Korea...
Hello Steve! I am a person who watch your lessons recently. I practice this riff on my acoustic guitar, and this is so hard.... I believe I can do better if I practice more and more, but I have just one question, how can you get more clear sound than me?! When I do pull off, other strings get touched... Let me know how to mute this useless string sound!!
P.S My English is so poor but I wish you can understand :x
What would you recommend for bass players who want to get started with math rock?
Good question. I'll have a think about it. Perhaps some others can chime in during the mean time 👍
what to do after learning this
I'd love to know how to figure out tunings by ear. With metal I used to kinda listen for open strings (usually lower ones) and then I could tell with it's a drop tuning or not, seems difficult to figure that out when the tunings are rather unconventional.
all tera melos songs are in standard
I've listened to melody 4 so many times but I still can't figure out if it's tapped or picked
Both
Here I am struggling to play at like 10% speed lol
which tuning is this?
Standard
I listen to Japanese Math rock every day. But don't know any English Bands and doesn't know the difference between them. But for me Personally the Japanese one sounds way better idk why hahaha
I think elk - ttng is a fairly easy song to learn at first.
Do you have the tabs?
Yup! Wanted something in standard tuning though. I'm actually working on 5 riffs from that album!
Getting to the point quicker than I can pull out my weiner. Great video.
wow... 😅
It took me 3:42 minutes to realize this wasn't in facgce
That was the first thing I checked, of course I tried it in FACGCE first xD
@@freekk9333 loool
Tough riff.
"too many notes"
This sounds like cowboy blues
Think that riff sounds way too country blues to be a stereotypical generic mathrock riff.
It probably sounds that way because I'm playing it on a tele. Have you checked out the actual track? It sounds anything but country. Haha
Chicken picken
chocken pocken
How tf is this rift “getting started w math rock” this is not a beginner rift sir my fingers can’t move that fast as a beginner
Math rock in general is a genre you probably shouldn’t dive into until you already have a good bit of experience under your belt
