    Great comparison Simon and surprising but true. I'm not a big fan of the ranger to be honest, but if I was I'd definitely go for the PD. Appreciate the comparison. Definitely the PD is the one. I think San Martin are a bit cheeky trying to charge $218 for a pretty run of the mill case and movement. Had they included better lume and a PT5000 or at the very least an NH38, there could be an excuse for charging $150.

    Crackin good comparison m8. I made up my time a while ago now. San martin is a better watch, but not better enough for me to spend the extra 150-300 dollars more on one of them over a pagani design, neither of which I plan on buying anymore at this point. Great comparison. I do hope pagani fixes that style of clasp with actual micro adjust or on the fly adjustment

    Definitely a solid effort in comparison, was actually shocked at your result because I know your liking for San martin. Not having the watches in hand I still say the same as before, for the price the pagani is just a better option imo because of the bang for buck

    Really enjoyed your comparison. I have had the Pagani Design for a couple of weeks now, wearing it every day. I also purchased the San Martin 36mm Explorer homage SN0021 at the end of last year, so can make my own comparison since the proportions of both watches are much the same. The San Martin is in a class of its own, with no issues whatsoever; pretty much synced with the atomic clock!
    The Pagani Design is an excellent watch with a very well finished case. The dial, hands and crystal are first class. The clasp is actually better than I thought it would be, requiring only minor adjustment with the tools to improve the functionality (although it has a sharp edge which could nearly shave hair). What let's down the PD is the bracelet! The female end link on the bottom case lugs sticks terribly and one link on that side also had the same problem. It isn't noticeable on the wrist once set in position. Can't win them all 😂.
    I'm lucky enough to own an entry-level Rolex Oystedate with a 36mm case (notice how I dropped that in) which I received new as an 18th birthday present a VERY long time ago. It provides a good benchmark for both the San Martin and Pagani Design.

    • @WatchtheTime

      I agree in general, San Martin are quality but I do question as time goes on, do they command 2.5x the price of a Pagani?? I’m not so sure…
      Enjoy your Rolex and I do like the way you incorporated it in to your comment - fair play. Thanks for watching Scott 👍👍

    • @scottwaldie4979
      @scottwaldie4979 Год назад +1

      @@WatchtheTimeI would definitely agree Simon, that the Pagani Design price structure is unbelievable value for money. San Martin appear to be following the marketing strategy of higher price promotes a 'sense' of better quality therefore shifting more product. I also fail to see the merit in 2.5x difference in price between the SM and PD, even settling aside the minor imperfections with my Ranger homage.
      This is exactly how Rolex function. My parents paid £207 retail in 1981 for my Rolex. Depending on which inflation price index you look at, in today's term's that same watch would only cost around £800 to £900! Can you imagine? 😅 Rolex was certainly a luxury brand in 1981, and they would have been making a good profit then.

    • @WatchtheTime
      @WatchtheTime  Год назад +2

      Very true and your point on Rolex is staggering and definitely not in proportion to inflation, although… they are very clever with waiting lists and drip feeding watches, a bit like diamond dealers. Appreciate the honesty my man 👍👍

  • @AlexanderB.
    @AlexanderB. Год назад +9

    San Martin went to the lengths to make an actual homage to that specific Swiss watch whereas Pagani Design just used a generic Oyster style case and just changed dial and hands. Hence the polished bezel and case sides. For me the San Martin wins all day long!

      @WatchtheTime  Год назад +5

    Not even surprised that Pagani won because some reviewers said it's a great watch for the price.
    However, I'm a bit surprised by a few ratings (build quality, bracelet and finishing). It's very impressive from Pagani!

    I purchased the PD during the 11/11 sale and love it. I was pleasantly surprised by it as I have been disappointed by Pagani two times previously. The only thing that was poor on the watch was its lume. Because of that I recently purchased the San Martin and I have to say that it just feels better on my wrist. The bracelet and clasp are far superior. If the lume on the PD wasn't nonexistent I probably would never have bought the San Martin, but I'm glad I did. It's quite handsome and thinner, good lume (not great) and has a stronger presence on the wrist IMHO. That said both are nice, both are unbelievably accurate at +2, and I wear them both. I put the Pagani on a black rubber Baltic strap and keep the SM on the superior bracelet. Anyway I really enjoy your reviews, Thank you.

      I know what you mean Kurt and if it wasn’t for the issues mine had, I might have felt the same. My problem is though, the last few San Martin watches I’ve had have had issues that were previously none existent on their watches. It’s a shame but I’m pleased you’re enjoying them mate 👍👍

    Thanks for this comparison. The rehaut depth looks quite a bit more extreme on that PD compared to the San Martin, despite the ample crystal. I'm surprised you didn't talk about AR coating or lume quality. And I'm sorry if I missed it, but apart from difficulty with the screw pins, what other knocks did the San Martin receive on finishing and build quality?

    9/10 for a good comparison effort Cobber.. Two fairly similar watches running the same movement and both on "sea-food bracelets" HAD to be closely scored eh.
    Prices are escalating for both brands that would push me towards SEIKO units ... except they too are climbing in cost. PD's watches are fantastic value generally and their quality is OK for the costs - the only big disapointment from them has been my TWO PD "ROOT BEER" watches that look real glossy but suck with their crowns being baulky & gritty & a pain in the ass the way their hands 'jump' when screwing it all back down. San Martin are very well made. Full Stop. - But they are still AliExpress from China for the racist snobs who only approve Swiss "Relaxes" eh. Cheers.

    I'm a bit confused by the ratings. So you give em in all brackets either 9 or 10 points, but then you also give 9/10 in price, although one costs more than double. Shouldn't the SM be more around 6 in the price bracket if it's overall that close to the Pagani?

    • @WatchtheTime
      @WatchtheTime  Год назад +5

      No problem Max. In boxing, which is what I was scoring it like, you will very, very rarely give 6 for a round and it’s normally; 10-9 maybe, 10-8 with a knockdown. I hope that helps 👍👍
