Oh gosh, I really don’t know! I’m no expert in magnifying tools I really like it it’s not too big or clumsy like the other one and at £47 or whatever it was I was willing to take a risk… Please don’t blame me if you don’t like it but if you do please use my link - you will find it in the description on my latest video… It means I get looked after a bit as well if enough people buy things from Amazon and that might eventually make all the hard work I put into these videos worthwhile!😂

I only really go for those really iffy targets which sound quite irony as a last resort as they do 50% turn out to be iron but you've got to give it a chance when nothing else is coming up...hope that helps! stunningly crisp bronze roman !
wasn't even aware that Follis once used to be that big
already spent days on the field I was yesterday without finding much, but this time finally broke the damn curse - among the lesser finds after almost 4 hours; a continental coin that looks nothing at all like the contemporary english coins; a Hamburger Hohlpfennig
dunno if there was usage for such odd coins in England but maybe for their silver value alone some of them ended up there (although I never saw an Englishman finding one)....especially Hamburg itself had good trade connections with England....
so if you ever come across a weird dirty grey "foil lid" with a ring indentation at the edge, maybe don't throw it right away 😁
get well soon ! the coins are missing you 😁

    • @HolzHammerSagas
      @HolzHammerSagas  Год назад +1

Wow, a Hamburger Hohlpfennig! That's something else! But it can be a real surprise what one finds in reveals the fields cant it??! What did that date to? All sorts of reasons in the 13th to 15th century is quite a lot of the Continental still that was interchangeable with our English currency mainly due to time is when there was a lack of it coming out in England - maybe that is the answer… anyway, thank you very much for watching and commenting - much appreciated Feldgeist, and all the best, Alexander

@@HolzHammerSagas getting surprised again and again is the best part of the hobby.....if positively surprised and apparently this one field of mine is under a bad spell once more ....
gotta rant extensively before addressing relics.....(that damn field !)
you know, before the lucky hunt the field revealed just one better corner with an extra stylish 13th cent. harness mount being the best find of several visits
      ---
lucky hunt started with a piece of 16g hacksilver right away in the first hole and a disc brooch ca 900 AD in the 4th
also found a nicely crafted, casket mount, ca 900 too, next to another 11g of hacksilver and a 14g flat molten silver nugget (very close to each other, almost same hole - maybe hoard sign), and a lead seal matrix, 1350ish and other bits & bobs from medieval times
a assumingly early medieval biconical tin bead amongst them (rather rare - our soil tends to eat tin fast)
      only very few modern trash
      ---
yesterday I continued to search just where I have stopped and the result was *vir-tu-al-ly NOTHING* !
same settings, same bad weather, same area
was the area I crossed before getting to the brooch spot
the same area where I got the first silver and a late early-medieval looking sorta-chape-thing in the 3rd hole, but this time nothing turned up around there
even the old trace trash like severely corroded lead crap or vessel shards etc pretty much absent
but copious amounts of aluminium and other modern stuff I was compelled to find
another spindle whorl was the best find of the day ....the most boring type imaginable, basically a undecorated thick lead washer 👍 thanks field....
      ---
sorry for the rant, but the crushing defeat during the last hunt still frustrates me !
as if this cursed field tries to taunt me
"see what's possible here and have some of the sweet relics you always expected ! feel motivated enough again ? well okey doky then and back to the trash it is, ahahahahaha...."
Hohlpfennig has a smooth rim, so it's pre 1369
being more a relic guy rather than a numismatist but as a broad rule you can say that hollow pennies with a smooth rim were common in the 13th and most of the 14th cent and the later ones usually are showing some sort of decoration/legend
if dirty enough they all can look like overpronounced foil seal-caps of bigger tubes tho - as big as longcross penny but with the weight of a farthing ....paper thin foil, quickly getting airborne if not dirty enough....
btw, do you have any idea why I don't see enough of another continental and easily disregarded "currency", meaning regular hacksilver, being found in England ?
they mixed some horrible billon back in the viking days, most likely adding plenty of lead
often hacked ingot pieces are looking just totally like lead - brown-grey or dirtyellow-white to true white
can't say how often they tricked me for a while but it surely was pretty often !
any chance that they're frequently misidentified as cut pieces of hard lead alloy (which tbh the more "watered" down ones probably sometimes kinda are)
they are super common on early medieval sites here and it's really strange that you find that few overthere ...especially in the former Danelaw....
what a article of an answer (that damn field !)
but since you are advised to spend more time indoors and live in a area with Hohlpfennig and Hacksilber potential, hopefully worth a read
also, sometimes it's just better to like sorta read orsomething and simply not to go out (that damn field!)
      cheerio !
      Cursedgeist🤐

I took her into hospital at 7am this morning, she was admitted, then an hour later they rang saying the operation had to be cancelled because there wasn't a bed available. Why admit someone if there wasn't an available bed? It doesn't fit their statement that they are striving to provide the best possible care. That is the fourth cancellation in twelve months and she was on a waiting list for three years before that. So now she may decide not to have the operation at all. She is the Queen of Mud Larks on the River Thames... based in London, even... more than worthy of a look... trust you are feeling well and keep on hunting!

Alex it would be useful to know where your roman coins were minted, hope you are getting to 100% fitness now. What actually happened to the mints? Sorry if I am being troublesome but I know you are a wealth of knowledge. Also as I live in Flintshire where the Romans mined silver and lead where was the nearest mint to Chester what's it the city itself Deva?
